JAR QUESTION FOR CHUTNEY
« on: December 11, 2008, 13:59 »
Hi there i'm new to the site & new to making things -
I thought i'd try to make some home made Christmas pressies  this year (skint due to credit crunch & also like cooking) so bought some jars & lids from a website- I want to make chutney but have read that you cant use metal lids because the vinegar will corrode it - is there anything I can do to the lid to prevent this from happening?  :?

So long as the lid has a plastic coating to it you will be ok.

Other than that I dont know, sorry!
We all have wings but some of us don't know why.

JAR QUESTION FOR CHUTNEY

They do need to have a plastic coating or plastic preserving skin. If you've already purchased them and they're unlined metal, go for the latter. I think Lakeland stock it but, if not, you'll need to find a specialist Cookware shop. Don't know if this helps Making Chutney at Home

Thanks for the advise - I looked at the lids - they are from lakeland and actually are plastic lined - I just assumed they were unlined so thats solved my problem then!!

Thanks again
