I'm confused about rhubarb. I don't know how old our massive clump of rhubarb plants is but I can basically say it's at the very least 2 years old maybe older.
Now... I noticed some flower heads forming on some of them so I cut them off as I had read online.
I finally found my container gardening book and it says you should regularly pick off the stems so it doesn't flower. This kind of confuses me because the previous information i had read said you had to limit how many stems you picked off the plant depending on how old the plant was. Should I just ignore that since these plants seem fairly healthy?

Also they're not very tall or long stems, what causes that? Is it the couch grass stunting them or just the fact we didn't manure them in the autumn?

Hm well that answered most of my questions except for my plants being runty. I'll just put it down to them not being fed enough, too much neglect or just being overcrowded then.

Have grown rhubarb for many years now - only ever saw the odd flower head form - funnily enough, this year there are loads of them. Not just on my plot either, all the plots here have flowere heads on the rhubarb. We figure it has something to do with the extended period of cold weather we had this winter. I just snapped 'em off.
