Title: DUCK ADVICE NEEDED
Post by: Mbowers on July 12, 2018, 19:14
I have 2 female ducks and the bigger one out of the two mounts the smaller one... the smaller one now has a broken femur and has been in a small box for 3 weeks the vet said she has a calcium def and no point in operating as it wouldn’t work, she was ok after letting her out but now a month on she has started to hobble again and sit about a lot, I don’t know what to do? Shall I get another duck in the hope the bigger one will stop mounting her ? Someone has told me to have her put to sleep as a broken leg is so painful for ducks .. any advice would be great

Mounting can be a dominace thing, same as chickens.
You need to provide oyster shell for their calcium. I prefer chick oyster, but you can buy bigger. They also require greens to absorb the calcium.
Getting more might not help. Do they have a pool?
