My courgettes are doing really well too.  Brian picked 5 yesterday and said I'd forgotten them, but I went down there today with the kids, and we found one that HE had missed and it weighed nearly 2lbs!

More soup!

I have just made the marrow and ginger jam without holding out much hope for the taste... But it's delicious and uses loads of courgettes!

If it's too big to be a courgette, we call them 'marrettes' as they are trying to be marrows!

Ok try not to throttle me ............ but what is all the fuss, about courgettes ............... I tasted them for the first time this year and have 1 plant giving me yellow courgettes and a fellow allotmentier giving me green ones but I just don't get it, they are very bland squidgy when cooked and not much different to a cucumber.  ???

They're reliably easy to grow, and you can do a lot with them, sweet and savoury and they're also useful padding to make summer food go further ;)

Just look at them as a way to make spicy sauces work.

They're very bland themselves, but add all sorts of things to them, like garlic, Benenden Sauce, pepper etc, and away you go! A spread of grated parmesan cheese just makes them very attractive as well!

But don't try to cook them for more than a couple of minutes, as they have only one benefit, which is texture!

I actually prefer them raw, and now use them grated in my coleslaw rather than white cabbage, but when I squeeze the water out of the veg after its been grated, you get a lot more water out of the courgettes!  Even the dog likes them!

Brian doesn't like courgettes, but he loves the coleslaw!

The other way I prefer it is soup.  Makes a lovely creamy soup if you use enough courgettes!   :D :D

Does anyone have a recipe for courgette chutney that doesn't use apples please?  Brian won't eat anything that has cooked apple in.  Otherwise I will have to make some and give a lot away as I don't eat a lot of it either!   :)
