Avoiding Leggy Courgette
« on: April 26, 2012, 10:25 »
Have three courgette seedlings in a small pot, currently about and inch or so tall. Are there any steps to take that may help prevent them getting too leggy, or is that par for the course? At the moment I'm keeping them away from my south facing patio windows, in case it encourages too rapid a growth, any help or advice most welcome.

They need as much light as possible - it's insufficient light that makes plants grow leggy.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Yep - get them in that window and dare I say, put some aluminium foil behind them to refelct even more light.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Don't forget to slap on the factor 25 suncream.   :D   It is in the nature of a courgette to be leggy.    Cheers,     Tony.

Am I massively behind this year, I still think its a little too early to plant courgette seed. I was planning on waiting another couple of weeks???

Me too. :) we have to do all our potting up and seed sowing outside so it has to be dry before I can even contemplate it anyway
