Really Weird "Egg"
« on: April 23, 2012, 12:46 »
Hi

One of my girls has laid the most odd looking "thing" today.

I just went out to the run to give them fresh water and food when I saw something really weird in the run.  It's an egg of sorts but it's huge and squidgy.

It's about 4 inches long and about 3 inches around, like a sack made out of the inner membrane of an egg (like when it's a soft shelled egg).  The sack is full of egg white with a hard, proper, egg inside it.

I *would* post a photo but I don't have the camera at the moment.

Anyway - has anyone come across anything like this before?

The girls all seem to be fine - I've checked them all over because I don't know who laid this monstrosity - with no problems at the rear ends, and they're all wandering about happily feeding, but I don't know whether this is something that just happens sometimes or whether I should be concerned.

Any advice appreciated . . . . .

Thanks

Sky

I have heard of an egg within an egg although it must be unusual for one inside a shell-less egg. I can only assume one got stuck and she formed another one around it and then rushed to get it out  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

I think I've found out what it is now -  after a couple of hours on t'interweb I found a site called Brown Egg Blue Egg which has pictures of weird chicken eggs (and some are *really* weird ) and they're calling it an egg-in-a-bag

Anyway, for anyone who wants to see the 'orrible thingy I found this morning, here's the linky and what my girlie laid is the fourth picture down.  I really wouldn't go any further down the page than that if you've just eaten . . . . . . .

Hopefully this will allay the fears of anyone else finding this sort of thing
