Plant Offers
« on: June 09, 2012, 21:53 »
Lately I have been buying GYO magazine and occasionally go for their "free" offers, i.e. just pay the postage, for things I wanted to buy anyway.
They always seem to use the same site for their offers and it seems to be that even without an offer code, there are some bargains to be had, i.e. Blueberry Top Hat (9cm pot) for £6.89 inc. postage. May be worth a shufti...

Figgy rum is the byproduct of tipsy figs.  It's the first of the Autumn liqueurs to lay down for winter.  Down to the last 1" in the bottle from last year though :(

But.. I have some improvements to make to the recipe this year! :D

I think I posted what I did last year?  Anyway, it's very easy.. ..

Figs - cut into quarters
Rum

Place figs in a Kilner jar, add rum.  Wait as long as you can.
Serve Tipsy Figs with mascarpone, a spoon of the liquor, a drizzle of honey and some chopped, toasted nuts.

With the remaining rum, sweeten to taste with sugar and add a little vanilla paste to taste.  Leave to mellow as long as you can resist the Figgy Rum goodness.

What I plan on doing this year is poaching the figs in a 1:1 sugar syrup before adding the rum, and using the syrup to sweeten the rum.  I'm not sure whether or not to add a vanilla pod to the poaching liquor, or add it later to the cooled liqueur.  The vanilla taste gives the Figgy Rum a taste very similar to a spiced rum, but I'm not sure it would enhance the Tipsy Figs.
