Cabbage, cauli and leek seedlings question...
« on: February 21, 2011, 15:28 »
My cabbage and cauli seeds have now germinated on my window sill.  Can i now move them into my cold greenhouse so they don't get too leggy? (sorry i am new to having a  greenhouse and a bit unsure of things).  I was planning on bringing the seeds in if there is a frost forecast at night.  Can i also do this with my leeks which i again started off on my window sill?

They should be fine in there, the last thing they want is the warm conditions of the house.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Can I second DD's comment, your brassicas are hardy little devils and so are leeks. They will be ok in your greenhouse.  :)

I did this with my leeks and onion, although they both wilted after a few hours in there, so I brought them back inside, so should I put they back in the unheated greenhouse and hope some survive?

How tall are the leeks & onions Jome?

It's quite possible that they've been over-weakened by being in the house too long. They really don't want the high indoor temperatures.

Mine are germinated in a frost-free greenhouse.

only about a centimetre tall, I'd say maybe I'll put them back in the greenhouse and accept some losses!

They should be OK at that. Perhaps just try them in the day in there for a while and bring them in at night.
