Geese
« on: September 21, 2009, 17:49 »
Good evening everyone
i have a trio of Geese which i brought a few months ago, i know they are seasonal layers, but they have started laying, i spoke to someone who breeds geese and they have said its because of the change in the weather, my question is, would they possibly be fertile? if so would it be worth putting them in the incubator and seeing if they hatch? Or is it the wrong time of year to be doing this?

Donna
Dont count ya chickens till they hatch!!!!!

Hi Donna

Yes you could try them in the incy   BUT........

Only if the gander has been treading the girls? Mine isn't now as everyone is out of season. If he is then yes you could BUT ........

Personally I wouldn't the reason being the best thing you can give goslings to eat is grass, new fresh green grass and at this time of year it isn't in plentiful supply  :(

The geese will still be there in the spring, my advice would be wait till then, you'll get a better bird in the long run :D

Sarah :)

Thank you for that, he has been having a go at them, their necks are very patchy where the feathers have been pulled out. But i will take your advice and leave it till next year, and hopefully get some nice birds then.
Once again thank you

Donna

Happy to help Donna :D

You never know one might go broody in the spring then you could let her do it herself :)
Works a lot better that way as the gander knows they are his  :D
