Hi I will be getting a few silkie chick's in the next few days I've never had them before and I can't wait anyway i heard that they would benefit from extra vitamins could anyone help me and tell me what they could be please.

Nice little birds,i had a few,they don't lay many eggs,but are fantastic mothers if you want eggs hatching.
Because they have fluff rather than feathers keep up with red mite treatment,and there fluff get wet very quickly.
As the others have said mud and silkies don't mix.

O I love silkies. I have three little ladies. They are 5 years old. One of them stopped laying about 9 months ago but the other two lay 4 to 5 eggs a week. When they where all laying, I had about 14 eggs a week.
Wind or weather; they are out and about, despite the option of shelter.
I have never given them 'extra vitamins' but do ferment the grains they are fed, beside the pellets and greens and of course calcium. They free range quite a bit, so worms and other little critters are an important part of their diet.
The three I have now are my second 'set' of silkies and I find them gentle, funny, strong. They never take ill, hardly fight, easy to manage for check-ups.
They know me well so when something is wrong they come running towards me when they see me.
Cons :)
Broody broody broody. Never leave an egg laying in the nest, because hormones instantly explode.
Escaping. They are so curious, it is hard to keep them in: they dig, squeeze and get on their knees.
Don't let the little wings fool you, they fly like bumble bees.
