I am now in my first flush of leaf gathering.  I spent yesterday following young men around the streets of london and they gave me 20 bags of freshly swept leaves.  Come to think of it some of the men were quite old but that didn't stop me.

Well I am new to all this, and I thought I'd share with you the important transition that happens as you turn from newbie seedling to experienced harvester.

I am now actively enjoying romance with the castoffs around the streets of London.

And who needs Mills and Boon when we've got Aggy and Munty!

Good for you S.N. I get lots of leaves yearly as well for the veg garden. Best to first shred it somehow, with a lawnmower or something. Broken up, it's easier to simply add to the soil now for winter decomposing. Or a rotovator will chop it up nicely if the leaves are spread over the plot. Wouldn't recommend putting lots of unbroken leaves on the soil as they'd simply mat and be hard to dig through. Been there, done that

if you have hens they will love scratting about in the leaves and help break them down for you (also i guess the hen poo enriches the final mixture too)

I've been out and about with bin bags and a dustpan collecting vast quantities of leaves too.  Doxford Park in sunderland won't know what's hit it on monday when I'm off - it'll be bare!!

Thanks for seeing me through this difficult transition, passing from leaflessness to fully leaved, it's put a smile on my face and my ample bosom has heaved!

The horse and carriage with the tall dark stranger have now left and so has the middle aged bald man with the dustcart and green binbags.
