Title: Delphinium seeds
Post by: rosiecider on July 25, 2018, 12:50
Hi

Has anyone collected seeds from their delphinium plants, and managed to get young plants, if yes how did you go about it and when did you plant the collected seeds?

This article (https://www.thompson-morgan.com/breeding-delphiniums) on the T&M website contains quite a lot of detail (scroll down a bit).

Harvest in August, sow in February.  Make sure the seed is dried and stored well.  The Real Seeds website (http://www.realseeds.co.uk/Drying.html) contains more info on drying seed (aimed at veg growers but the principles will be the same).

Delphiniums yep a welcome addition to anyone's garden but there also on the dreaded slugs menu how upsetting when you get so fare with your Delphiniums to find them struck down by those darn slugs

i'm reluctant to use those blue slug pellets in the open garden  only use them  on netted beds because of the wild life so how dose one keep there Delphiniums slug free?

I use copper hoops/rings around mine, they aren't cheap but are effective. I was lucky and got mine in a closing down sale a few years back  :)
