Ah but Olive, that leaves out the people who don't keep chickens. I think the photo ones are a great idea, but need to think of something that everyone can do. Having looked through the compy stuff, it's like, 'spring', 'autumn' etc... I think 'happiness' might be a nice one - that could cover everything from veg to chickens, to family, pic of you with your feet up with a can of beer etc.

How about the best re-use of a common article, for example a wheelbarrow planter, guttering strawberry planter, Things made of palletts, tools from reclaimed bits  etc etc. I'm sure chicken owners recycle things too.  :D

I think that really does exclude far too many members, many of whom don't have allotments at all let alone not newbies.  The aim of our competitions is generally to maximise the opportunities for participation.

And I'm not sure how you'd define "new"  :D

Keep the ideas coming, though  :)

I really like this idea too  :)

Also, what about a 'photo of the most colourful tree/trees' competition - the autumn colours are wonderful this year  :D

It is lovely to see, but this is one of the most recent competitions that have been held... :)

I like the idea of a photo of our plots.  :)
Big, small, garden or allotment or even just a few pots with veg in, but open to us all. It could be announce at the beginning of the  year with the competition taking place in perhaps July. That would encourage us all to keep our plots tidy and looking beautiful - showing what each persons idea of tidy and beautiful is - for our photos .
