Blackfly
« on: June 16, 2018, 12:37 »
Not something I am troubled with normally, and if I spot some I run my fingers carefully over the stalks to get rid.   But this year, both a veg and flowers seem to be covered with them - too many to squash -
Is there a reason why there are so many this year, and does the old washing up liquid dissolved in water still work, or is there something better.  thanks, Mrs Bouquet

I'll probably regret saying this but we have fewer than usual. I do reply on the soapy fingers trick as far as possible, although in the garden at home the ladybirds saw off what looked like  heavy infestation on the Mock Orange.

Maybe transferring a few ladybirds into the vicinity would help too

Always get a little Blackfly, but not really seen any more than I normally get this year.
Just do a finger wipe to stop them spreading.
Had none last year, but this year just a small amount on a few plants.
I do remove the tops as soon as the broad bean plants are flowering, that has always worked for me.
Do use a spray bottle that has a water and soap solution and spray them a few times a week.

For the first time ever my broadbeans have blackfly.  I have pinched out the tips and I will now spray with washing up liquid diluted.
