New greenhouse!!
« on: January 28, 2008, 19:17 »
I've finally taken the plunge and bought a greenhouse. Am very pleased despite spending 2 whole days putting it up, BUT I now have a problem. Never having had one before, I have no idea when to start planting things as I have always had to rely on limited windowsill space and planting seedlings straight outside. Can anyone help? I'd like to grow chillis, tomatoes, aubergine in the greenhouse and also use it to store (or germinate?) seedlings like sweetcorn, courgette, cucumber, leek etc before planting them out. Thanks!

:D  woo hooo I just love greenhouses  :D  just putting one up now myself.

Don't start anything off like chillis, toms, peppers just yet unless you can provide a little warmth for them. Mine will be going in in about a weeks time in a heated propagator.

to give sweetcorn courgettes etc a good start, sow them about 6 weeks before the usual anticipated last frost, (last frost around mid May here).

Gradually harden them off before planting them in the big wide world.

Get Seadart round for a discussion
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

This is the one I bought today. It's coming next week!! Can't wait!!! Will be in there all weathers.

It's got an automatic window and shelfing plus a base for £380 which I thought was a good price. The glass is horticultural. And they will delivery straight to my plot.

Nice greenhouse.... where did you order it from and what size is it, if you don't mind me asking? Oh and what type of glass does it have?  :)
