This year my plot ....
« on: January 08, 2018, 13:52 »
... is getting some improvements  :D

Grand plans are afoot (only in my head so far), but my to do list is :

Extend my fenced area, as the muntjac seem to be extending their diet preferences  ::)

Incorporate climber netting sections that are sturdier, so I can have flowers at intervals like sweet peas and morning glory

Set up a new enviromesh tunnel - got the frame and cover in the website sales, so allium leaf miner, be afraid, be very afraid!

Any renovations planned elsewhere ?

On the new plot - roll on March  :D - all the beds are 22ft long and 4ft6ins wide.
I have new enviromesh for the leek &swede bed (thanks sunny for the link to cheap supplier) and already have enough for planned carrot bit
I also bought new brassica netting, so hopefully the things that eat the whitefly will get in but not the cabbage white butterflies  ::)
The old debris netting can now be used for wind breaks where required.
I hope I won't have to cover all the soft fruit  up there, on my old plot the birds weren't a problem.
Towards the end of last summer I bought a bargain 16ft roll of 6ft tall plastic coated wire mesh for my tall peas and the same length but 3ft high for perhaps some shorter ones as well  :D

we all have the best intentions to get things better than last year and there's no one like me for trying to achieve this many idea's learning from last years failure's me thinks

I keep a garden log so when I think of an idea I usually put it in the book and say to myself I must try that if I didn't write it down I would possibly forget about it until I thought of it when it was to late brassicas  are going to be my main goal this year

...will have a Munty frame. I have also just made (I hesitate to say completed  ;) ) a list of jobs to be done over the next few months before the serious growing begins!

The link to 'cheap' environmesh type netting would be appreciated!

I am dreaming of a second polytunnel after loving having the first one, so that is the really big thing, plus digging out all the mulched down wood chip from the paths on our first plot, and starting again. It looks fantastic stuff!
Other goals include:
- To only grow enough plants to fill the spaces available, not to have enough to plant up a whole farm field
- Use enviromesh over the onions after success using it for leeks and brassicas
- Remember to sow florence fennel in time for it to bulb up properly
- To make sure the supports for tall peas are secure enough not to blow over in a gale
- To grow shorter sunflowers so those don't blow over
- To try to protect root veg and potatoes from rats and mice by using chilli powder as a deterrent
Wisdom is knowing what to ignore - be comfortable in your own skin.

is going to look and be more structured and organised with raised beds and bark paths- will it be done ?  yes as its already underway see other thread !!
then due to the easy access to both sides of all beds weeding is easy
this year the plot will be the best its been   :D

...will just have more spaces between plants. I always cram stuff in, and weeding/hoeing gets far too complicated.

I haven't moved the rasps as I promised I would, as they got a dose of Roundup to see if the theory of knocking out the couch against brown stems worked, but that's created more space already, as the beds they were going in will now need something...
