Parsnips not so tasty this year.

I had a smashing crop of parsnips this year (Albion and Tender and true.)
Nice straight, long roots but when cooked, they seemed to lack the sweetness and flavour of a parsnip. They have had a frost on them before havesting as well. Has anyone else noticed bland parsnips this year?

Absolutely not!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I dug some up about 6 weeks ago that weren't too tasty, but now they've had some frosts i am hoping that the one's I dug up over the weekend will be tasty. they smell pretty pungent so I am hopeful :)

now actually i don't like parsnips but the ones i grew this year, for the first time, were great, large and straight and when roasted even i liked them  :D Just pulling them up as needed.

I grew some big b*ggers (Ala DD's) in my garden, sown in March, and they were pretty avarage in taste although even though I say so myself - HUGE!
But I threw some seeds I had left over, underneath my bean frame and  I totaly forgot they were there. I dug these up on Christmas eve, and they were the sweeeeeeetest tenderest (is there such a werd) snips I have ever ever tasted!!!
(O.K., I am a bit biased)  :D

Mine too were just the same as last year - delicious.

Have you grown parsnips before or are you comparing them to shop bought
parsnips? If so there is a huge difference in taste there for sure.

Best Wishes

I have grown parsnips for quite a few years, they have never dissapointed before. However, I have moved allotments from Bognor Regis to near Pontefract and this was the first year of crops from my new plot. It hadn't been worked for years, so it was basically virgin ground. Perhaps they will improve as the soil does? :?
