Rhode Island Reds Green man. I know someone who sells Other stuff near Bston, if I can remember his name, but not sure if he has RIR's. We got our last chooks near Sleaford, but they were Hybrids just for their eggs.
If I hear of anyone, I'll let you know

how about ex-battery hens they are part RIR! :D

And cheaper!!!!
The first chooks we had were actaully ex free range. A chap we know in Esex had a free range poultry farm, and as they have to get rid of them at 72 weeks old, we used to buy them for £1 each, but I know Jimmy of Jimmy's farm, only paid 50p for his!!!!

Hi Grannie annie looking for a few ex free range chooks myself so if any one knows of some round Northants or warks let me no. Delivered to a farm this week in lorry. He had a flock of year old commercial rejects that still lay well in their new home. Fluff

Once they are settled in their new homes, they do usually lay well, but sometimes they die after a year or 2. Perhaps its the stress of their previous lives.
The reason the farmers have to get rid of them at 72 weeks is because the eggs are very often slightly misshaped, or not all the same colour brown. We've had lots of different shaped eggs, different shades of brown all in the same shell, rough outer shell, but there is nothing wrong with the egg itself. Just because the supermarkets want the eggs all the same shape and shade of brown!!!!
If I hear of anyone, I'll let you know fluff.

Thanks for that Hermon. I contacted their Lincolnshire co-ordinator, and he has a rescue coming up at the weekend, so we are going up to his place near Lincoln on Monday to pick up 50 chooks!!!!!!
Decent eggs, here we come!!!!!!

Well, chooks are here now. They are in good condition considering where they came from! I've put a photo of some of them on the poultry photo album.
We left one of the pop holes open today, but only 6 of them ventured out. They are still very nervous, but 24 of them laid an egg today!!!! I'm hoping to sell the spare eggs to pay for their food and bedding.
