Never thought I would praise weeds !!
« on: August 20, 2006, 08:11 »
Since I posted last ( June 27th) things have not gone to plan.  Early july my daughter went into hospital with a fairly minor illness and I travelled up to Northumberland to see her.  The other people on the lottie said they would do some watering for the week I planned to be away and off I went.   The stay lengthened out to 5 weeks as she got worse and we finally lost her.
During the hottest few weeks and with their own plants to water mine eventually got left and here is where I praise the weeds !  they sheltered some of the plot and amazingly very few veg were lost.
Really only the greenhouse was devastated. Even some seeds of beetroot and carrots I planted a week before I left grew through the weeds though some of them came out when I weeded the plot. The pumpkin plant which when I left was 6 inches high is now 8ft sq and has one huge pumpkin and two smaller ones.
Nature is a strange animal and I am glad to working alongside it.

What a shock - don't know what to say, hope our thoughts can help you in some small way. Oliver and his humans.
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

What can I say, but have strength.  God works in strange ways as we know all to well - our 4 year old daughter has a very serious heart condition.  Remember the good times as often as you can and cherrish those happy memories.
Enjoy the allotment, it is a great way to relieve stress and eating what you grow is also very good for you.
Take care

... I am so sorry to hear about your daughter.  I hadn't planned on this forum ever getting me to the brink of tears.

But I love your optimism.  I hope your allotment continues to thrive and I wish you and your family all the love and strength you need to come through this.

Yay for the weeds!

I can't even begin to think of what you must be going through - and I know words from a stranger  probably won't do a lot, but I hope you can take some comfort from my thoughts and prayers.
