« on: November 26, 2011, 20:04 »
Hi, All

I have got 6 Warrens (ex-batts) ive had them a week, an im slowly getting used to being part of the chicken gang! However i have noticed they often peck each other, around the head and back of the neck area....is there something i should be doing?

Help/Advice needed....

Hi, we are chicken newbies too, we have had our ex-batts several weeks now. The pecking is quite distressing to watch, but I think you'll find it'll settle down once they decide who is in charge!!!

Hi it's just the pecking order to sort out who is the top hen.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I'm sure they are well pleased with their surroundings compared to their past accommodation, but I tend to hand veg, provide branches for perches, and all sorts of other distractions for them. It helps to keep them entertained so they don't squabble about pecking order too much.

Current favourite play thing is the green house! Now we've taken out all this years veg, and left it open for the frost to get to the soil, they are in muck heaven. It's the best place for a dust bath apparently, and all four will play for hours bathing or chasing spiders down the glass  ::)
