I like to recycle old topics 

aunt sally is that just pea gravel your sheds sat on with timber bearers on top?...might save me some work laying slabs if i do it that way...how solid is it?

don't forget to anchor the shed down if you do it that way, some of those on our site went walkabout in high winds last year    
(some angle iron hammered into the soil at the corners works a treat )

Coudl you use bricks for a base? I have a load of old house bricks I want rid of and was thinking of making a shed base by laying those down .

Would I need to use beams on top of that for an airgap?

An airgap saves the base sitting in water 

Just make sure you have enough suporting timbers so that the floor doesn't sag in sections when you walk inside the shed
