charlotte takes some beating. its good to try new varietys though. I note down all the potatoes I have grown and how they perform for me. yield taste cooking quality. family vote as to weather they are grown again. am tempted to try some sarpro varieties as it is a pain having to cut off haulms and what to do with it?

I've got Kifli on order, as well as the Charlottes.  They are part of the Sarpo range and are claimed to give salad potatoes all summer long, but which can also be stored until the following spring.  Sounds too good to be true, but of course I fell for it and bought some

I don't think you'll be disappointed with Kiflis New Shoot. I've grown them for the last four years and will be again this year. Apart from being mega-blight resistant they make a good slug and scab resistant salad spud that keep really well and retain their flavour. Also good for wedgies and roasts but turn to polyfiller when mashed.
I grow Charlottes too but eat those first before starting on the Kiflis.

Just ordered a bag of these to try this year, they sound great  :D

Forgot to mention Annabelle earlier!

They're excellent croppers, great flavour, and the only reason we haven't used them for a couple of years, was that our GC didn't have any!

Might even change my order now...

(or get more like everyone else does)!

Annabelle sounds good! Ordered some Juliette too after seeing a recommendation on here. Will be interesting to see how they compare to Charlotte.

I liked Juliette - very good yield, seemed "slug resistant" (however, we'd had dry summers when I grew it but better than average) and lovely flavour.  Difficult to say one potato is better than another - compared to Charlotte, both are nice but have their own taste.  My fave is Vivaldi but I'm giving them a rest this year and trying 2 new varieties for me (not necessarily a salad spud though)

They are descriptions from different perspectives.

If you plant first early (FE), second early (SE), and maincrop varieties at the same time, they are ready in that sequence.

Salad spuds are types of varieties that are, usually, waxy in nature as they hold their firmness after boiling.

Many FE and SE varieties are suitable for use in salads, but a few are not suitable (they are better for mashing or roasting for example).
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Charlottes are reliably good, but this year I'm trying International kidney (Jersey Royal ) Hopefully they will match the Jerseys I have enjoyed over the years from shops.  A sort of main crop if allowed to go full term, but gets harvested at early stage for salads.

It's always worth trying new varieties out, but be aware that quite a lot of members on here have tried IK and been fairly disappointed with the results.  I think that the soil and growing conditions in Jersey are so specific that it is difficult to replicate elsewhere in the UK, leading to poorer taste for the IK spuds.

I have grown IK last few years but the yield hasn't been great, as stated above the conditions in Jersey are far different from here. I have had excellent results with Nicola both yield and flavour

I quite liked Casablanca which I tried for the first time last year, very pleased with it.   I also like Sharpe's Express which has a lovely flavour.

Had excellent results with salad variety Aura last year too, tasty waxy yellow flesh and good yields too.
