Getting my first allotment this year and was wanting to grow cut flowers along side my veg.

What are the best cut flowers to use for a beginner and which flowers work best along side veg?

I have decided to do the same this year...so I dug another bed just for flowers...I grow veg that normally i would buy so thought the same for flowers....sweet william...stocks....then I watched carols cottage garden and got carried away...got cosmos, and lots more , but sow what you would buy

Hi Bluelou, I love Asters as they make great cut flowers. Trouble is deciding which one! Check 'em out.

I planted daff bulbs along a row of raspberries. It was a real lift to see them at about this time of year when the allotment looked pretty bare, and to take some home as cut flowers.

sow sweetpeas, they make lovely cut flowers

I always plant gladiolus .Plant a few bulbs every 7-14 days so you'll have a continus supply for weeks/months

I am a dahlia fan. You can buy tubers but they are easy to grow from seed.
Also I grew rudbeckia last year and they lasted for ages in a vase.

I'd second sweet pea, and cadge a bit of alchamilla mollis (sp?) the  two look so pretty together in a little vase.

I grew snapdragons last year for the first time, and was extremely impressed with them.

I have lupins that are now well established and for a couple of weeks in June they are nothing short of breathtaking.

The easiest and most reliable for me are cosmos (try the rich mandarin colour, and white).  Gorgeous, trouble free and long flowering.
