Focus DIY gone into admin'
« on: May 04, 2011, 21:02 »

Focus DIY are going into administration, and was wondering if there will be any bargains to be had??

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13283501

I've been told they'll be open for the next 5 days and then that's it.

Just wondering if they'll be selling anything cheap(er) before close?

Don't know about that, but if anyone has any vouchers, get them used pronto.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Oh thats a real shame  :(  Ive had many a bargain from Focus.  A Homebase has just moved right next door to our Focus store.  I knew it sounded the death knell then.  :(

That's very sad news for their employees.  :(

Don't know what I'll do without Focus - there is one a short walk from our house - hopefully a Homebase will take it over - hopefully not another supermarket :(

If you enter into specialised revised creditor arrangements (meaning your creditors get much less than you owe them) and then default even on that arrangement less than two years later it is perhaps not altogether surprising that one or more really majore creditors will serve a winding up petition on you.

The staff will get it in the shorts, the directors will probably come out OK as their pernsion pots are structured rather efficently.

As an earlier poster already said - use any vouchers you have soonest!

There is chance for them.

'Chris Dawson - who owns The Range chain of homeware stores, which has 52 UK outlets - said he expressed his interest to administrators.

Focus DIY's almost 180 stores are to continue to trade as administrators try to find a buyer for the firm.

Mr Dawson said: "We've expressed an interest in purchasing the entire chain and its stock.

"We need to see where we go from here because it will be down to price, speed and the rules."'

Hope they will let him buy them out, as at least that is better than them getting shut down!

Much aggro and visits from police to maintain the peace at Focus branches!  Customers orders that have been paid for, have to request refunds via a central contact.   Orders paid for and in the stores, they are not allowed to release and claims via the same central contact.   It has been reported that in several stores Dulux representatives had to be prevented from attempting to remove their (unpaid for) branded stock from the shelves.

It would seem that there have been ugly scenes with people who have ordered everything from rolls of wallpaper to complete kitchens getting somewhat angry and threatening staff (like it was their fault).

The staff at my local branch are unsurprisingly not exactly happy bunnies!

No cut price 'everything must go' clearances yet though!
