Two years ago I placed an apple pip (French Golden Delicious),in a pot. The pot was actually home to one of our Pelagoniums,but hey hey. To my suprise the pip sprouted and now,two years hence it is six feet tall and has a rightful place in my allotment flower garden. Question is will it ever produce fruit or am I hoping against hope? Either way,it looks good and I will look after it just as well as any other plant/Tree I own.

hmm i dnt know, the apple tree i hae just got has been grafted at the bottem. the only way to find out is by letting it grow big if it dose not bare fruit bythe end of next year u know its a dud.

it may bear fruit, but not for years yet, it will probably grow into a large tree as it will not be on a dwarfing rootstock, and who knows what it will taste like, as it won't be a golden delicious as that variety is not self fertile, so you have no idea what pollinated it......could have been a crab apple

yeah acturly, that sound right. mine must be on a dwarflin root stock then, as its started to grow a little apple allready!

Should bear fruit at some time, but it may not be for a few years.
The pip will have been cross pollinated but with what is the question. I assume that you bought it from a shop. :happy: :happy:

When I travel down to Devon/Cornwall if I munch my way through an apple I will sometimes stop at a convenient layby and plant a pip or five in the ground. Lots of nice new layby's along the A303 between Honiton and Exeter.

Wonder if any sprouted?

I planted a pip with my grandad about 15 years ago. The tree is now about 10 foot tall, and gives masses of very tasty eating apples. Didn't bear fruit until it was about 6 years old. Makes the fruit all the better that I grew the tree from a seed! Was one of the first things i ever planted.

grenhouse, you may have a new variety there which could be commercially successful.

My daugher planted a pip about 4 years ago in a pot and it grew, it is now all of 8 inches high and like a little bonsai tree, I have moved it into a bigger pot this year hopefully it will get bigger
