What seed supplier?????
« on: January 27, 2010, 11:32 »
Hello there.

Am just about to order my seeds but need to decide on one crucial factor!!
Who do i use. I have catalogues from D.T Brown, Simpsons seeds And Thomas and Morgans. Price wise im swaying towards Simpsons seeds.

What would you lot recommend. Anyone had any good/bad experiences woth the above suppliers and where did you buy this year?
Start at the beginning, and finish at the end!!

Seconded with Moles if you need quantity yourself or can share. You get a lot cheap!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

What i like about seedsdirect is that you can buy small amounts of different varieties cheaply.
You get to try more until you find the ones you like  ;)

I went down the excel spread sheet route this year. Yes I know sounds a bit control freak and all that, but I listed what I wanted to grow then next to each put the prices from each supplier. They don't all stock exactly the same but most of the ones I wanted. I could see who was the cheapest then I spread my order accordingly. I found no difference in quality but you can make savings and it gives me the list of what I've sown this year ready for next.... well thats the plan :nowink:

I use a couple of online suppliers who are excellent and you even get little handwritten 'happy gardening' messages from the owners! I do like the personal factor. Depends on how much of each veg you want to grow though i suppose.

www.moreveg.co.uk (personal!)
http://gardenbymail.co.uk/ (personal - Peter is brill, gives you loads of advice).

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

I've used most suppliers, but lots this year from DT Brown, based on good results last year, seed potatoes just arrived, liked their mixed collections.

Also have good detailed descriptions, planting and sowing info too...having said that, also spread my favours around Wallis and Suttons too...
