Hi all
I was asked last night why they had an egg with a white yolk.
Does anybody have the answer?

My silkies first eggs were diappointingly pale.
A couple of possible reasons come to mind, lack of artificial colourant in the feed, lack of grass/greens (not sure about that as silkies were on my lawn at the time but it's supposed to give dark yolks) also maize ("corn") is supposed to add colour to the yolks but I don't recommend too much of that.
I think some hens just lay eggs with darker yolks than others. :|

Some of mine when I first got them had very pale yolks, they had been stuck in one of theose container things some supermarkets use for storage  :shock:  Not much natural light & no grass.

It took them 3/4 days to actually step out on to the grass, but once they did their yolks gradually got more of the nice yellow colour we would expect

Sometimes one egg out of a day's clutch will have a very pale yolk, despite each girl's fair share of greens.  Sometimes they'll have nothing but pellets and one yolk will be positively orange!  I put it down to being young and still learning.
