Catering Foil
« on: September 13, 2016, 23:05 »
Hi All,I have a small experimental area in my polytunnel approx 24 x36 inches. I ask what would happen if I used black polythene to control weeds and retain moisture and then used catering foil over this  to reflect the light, when growing things like Kelsoa Onions for the 2017 season? would it scorch them ,do you think?

I've seen that trick used for chillis, but I don't see the need for the foil for onions.

I tried something similar this summer with reflective foil roof insulation . You need to be carefull as I cooked 6 strawberry plants ! I had it under 2 tomatoes in the polytunnel but cut it well clear of the stem , it kept weeds down but the improvement on ripening the lower trusses of gardeners delight was slight although it was just a small test
