Design for a garden hose hanger.
« on: June 24, 2015, 13:49 »
I have a post attached to the cottage where one end of my washing line is fixed to the top. I want to make something lower down to hang my garden hose on to tidy it away. The bit where the hose will hang needs to be round to avoid any kinks. I have some large piping that I can cut a section off (say 6" long) but it's how to attach it to the post and attach an upright on the other end so the hose doesn't fall off. I can envisage a flat U-shaped ("I_I") fixture but not sure if the cut-off pipe will go over the upright bit. Now just had a thought! I need to get some of that hard tubular foam pipe insulation so if I got that and put it on the horizontal part, all I need is the actual fixture, Is there any metal bracket or whatever that would do the job?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Is the post you want to put the bracket on, round or square?
We come from the earth, we return to the earth, and in between we garden.

I think a photo of the post and a sketch of what you quite obviously have designed in you mind and have described but I'm having real trouble visualising.

Alternative is a simple J Bracket and a Blue expanding X-Hose or the Cheaper Orange one Stretch Hose that Argos and ASDA were selling.

We've just got an old shelf bracket with the end bent up a bit to stop the hose from falling off. Works after a fashion... :nowink:

An old car wheel?

OK - cadalot - here's my post on the corner of the cottage with the hose at the bottom. It's a good quality hose and I don't want a stretch one. I like the idea of an old car wheel as that would kind of fit in with our old cottage and be a bit quirky too. Any other ideas welcome.

The post is not ideal for hanging a wheel on, it would leave half the wheel overhanging the path.
Better to find a fixing in the centre of that section of the wall, either using another timber batten or fixing direct using rawlbolts or thunderbolts.
Paint the wheel the colour of your choice with Hammerite or equivalent for weatherproofing.

Go to an electrical wholesalers and beg a small electrical cable drum from them.  That should do the trick.  Definitely no chance of kinking.  Cheers,  Tony. :)

Thanks all. I will visit my farmer neighbour who is a compulsive hoarder and see if he has a small wheel or something similar.

My Dad worked in an fabrication engineering company and used a blue plastic reel that welding wire came on. So pop into any industrial units where they have mig welding going on. As you can see they come in all shapes sizes and I have seen them different colours.
