Albertos Locoto
« on: June 28, 2014, 14:06 »
Went a bit crazy with the chillie and pepper seed order this year, but am growing Albertos Locoto for the first time.  Although all the different plants are doing well now, the Locotos are really something to look at and totally different to all the other types. Anyone else grown it before?

Looks fine to me.  ;) All the pubescens look like that - pretty isn't it. Keep an eye on it though otherwise you'll end up with a greenhouse full of green growth and no peppers.

It has flowers at each leaf node so should be ok. Taking longer to set fruit than some others.

It's been a while since I grew any, think it was around 2006 (before I had my greenhouse) I struggled to get anything to ripen outdoors. I expect they'll set a bit better now the weather has cooled a little and the humidity is up. Nice juicy flesh if I remember rightly with a bit of a kick to it  ;)

Grew some year before last and still have plenty in the freezer.  :)  Very fleshy with a real kick (lovely added to pickled onions/cues)... :tongue2:

I've got 4 growing here for the seed circle, but they are a bit behind yours and outside. It is very pretty looking though.

It's a tree chilli, and it will get big.  You can trim it up at Christmas!   The red fruits are characterised by black having black seeds
Definitely a novelty and an interesting one to grow.

Mine got about 3-4 ft tall this first year and so I hacked them back.  Hopefully I can restrict them to a smaller bush.  Anything huge like that doesn't get tunnel space....There's an unproductive Courgette that's huge and about to get pulled and shredded.

It could and it will next year when I've made the new raised beds out of the PT.  That and runner beans and plenty of other things that I shouldn't have given PT space to really...learning curve. But still fun!
