I've just finished a picture to hang on my granddaughters bedroom wall. The gingham is scraps left over from her curtains.
Hope you like it :D

I love her posy and little boots.

That's just beautiful, Lesley :)
-
Oh Lesley, that is beautiful. She will treasure that!
-
Lovely work Lesley. :D
-
That is really lovely. What size is it :)
Her room must look so nice, that gingham is a lovely colour
-
How wonderful, you are so talented.
How did you do the posy?
-
I made the posy from flowers that are sold for decorating brides things favours I'd imagine.
-
That is really lovely. What size is it :)

It's in a 12" embroidery hoop.
It is a lovely room and she loves it. The wallpaper has a delightful deer motif. I copied it to make a cushion for her chair.

-
One of the motifs on her wallpaper. They are about 5cm tall.

-
wow Lesley - you really are talented! truly lovely things.
-
Brilliant Lesley!!
Pamela
-
I'd love to see other people's craft projects!
-
Very sweet lady picture.
Just last night I was online looking for circular smocked bonnet patterns. Found one free but it's a bit fussier than I'd care for but suspect munchkin will end up getting it anyway :D And of course, I can't find a pic to send.
But next year, munchkin will get this one. (http://creationsbymichie.blogspot.ca/2010/02/blue-gingham-bishop.html)
And the pansies here (http://www.smockingbonnet.com/product_info.php?products_id=2880) have also caught my eye. Just as well her quilt is almost finished.
-
Those are beautiful, Gloria.
I learnt to do smocking at school but I don't think I've done any since. I've got two sons and I don't think they would have wanted a smocked dress
-
at the risk of sounding American, you girls are awesome! What wonderful skills you have. I can sew, but have never done any of the decorative crafts like you. lovely
-
If you can sew, you can do it. It just takes time.
-

 Boys can be such spoilsports, can't they? We have a girl coming next month so I'm in my element ;)
-
I made a smocked apron when I was at school- not done it since either- 2 boys again!
I like having a go at making things, they might not all turn out good, but I will have a try. I have a wall of cross stitch pictures here, I did them for MIL and Jims Aunt so when they both died I got them back!
Pamela
-
That's beautiful Lesley. It's so much more personal than picking something from a shop and I'm sure she will treasure it. :)
-
Those are both lovely Lesley, and the colour of the gingham is not one I have seen for ages. Clever thing, you :D
I used to do a lot of cross stitch work until my fingers decided to do as they please rather than what I want, and a lot of knitting too.
Now that my DIL has learned to knit, she has my needles and is going to start a cot blanket :D
Things you have made yourself are so much more special somehow, aren' they?
-
I've just finished a cat embroidery, now framed in my GD's bedroom, and I've got another Regency ragdoll ticking away in the background (as if I haven't get enough to do ::))
Just as long as it's finished by Chr present giving time ::) :D will remember to do pics when it's finished.
Us ladies all seem to have learnt smocking at school, it's one of those things ( like overlocking edges by hand ) that I've never done since :nowink:
-
I do crewel embroidery and always have one on the go. I like to use lots of different stitches.
-
... and I've got another Regency ragdoll ticking away in the background...
The beautiful rag doll you made for last mid winter festival has inspired me to make one for Eva when she is a bit older.
-
I'm not as talented as some of you ladies on here, but here are a few cross stitches I was pleased with.
Wish I was better at sewing though!
-
Those are super Ann.
I particularly like the mermaid - love her tail :D
-
here is a make of mine- sorry it is sideways!
I gave it to a friend who liked it :D :D :D
Pamela
-
That is really lovely. I'm sure lots of our chicken keepers on here would love to own it.
I've never tried appliqué so I must put that on my list of things to have a go at.
-
Lovely work, ladies 8)
-
Lovely work, ladies 8)
I totally agree :)
-
This better Pamela? I love my shopping bag, but I didn't get a chicken on mine! ;) ;)
My mermaid was my Nici's 30th Birthday card. I framed it, then stuck a blank card to the back of it. The tail is all metallicy and tiny shiny beads and her face is petit point.
-
Amazing what you can all do -- where do you find the time?
-
By ignoring the dusting, ironing and cooking- but it is too hot to go outside still in the afternoon and due to get up to over 40 deg again for the next 4 days.
I have made 2 teddy keyrings and a dog key ring, will post a photo later on too.

I only used to sew/embroider in the winter when I was in Greece - it was useless to try when it was hot because my fingers were too sticky :(
-
That is delightful Lesley, you are very talented with the needle. Well Done
Here is a Christening cake I made for a friend last friday. It makes a change
from making soap and candles lol...

They look fab Ann, you must have a lot of patience to do cross stitch !

Pamela
Very nice Pamela :) Is it to carry all that lovely fruit in? lol...
-
Very sweet cake, Dab. What a lot of patience you have :D
-
Beautiful cake Dawn! and great cross stitch Ann (that is how Ann and I met, through cross-stitch)
Pamela
-
Lovely cake Dawn :D
So cute :D
-
Yes lovely cake Dawn. I used to love making and decorating cakes for my girls when they were younger, but not having the steadiest of hands, one year I put one of those iron on transfers of a basket of flowers on the cake (no I didn't iron it on!! lol) pin pricked all around the design, then iced round the pin pricks. It looked good, although cheating! lol
Yes, Pamela and I met through a cross stitching forum, and we first met at a craft fair some years later at Alexander Palace (even though Pamela forgot what I looked like when we met again this February!!! AND I wore the same blouse! )
-
I have sold all the teddy bears and dogs I have made- I have orders for at least 8 more bears- I aim to sell enough to pay for the vets bills for the dog that died and Timon.
So why am I here? If you see me here toll me to go away
Pamela
-
Wow. There are so many talented people on here!
-
Sold 26€ worth so far! Will soon pay vets bill :D iI have found a cat pattern, looking forward to trying them :D
Been asked if I can make a bigger bear, so enlarged the pattern and will give it a try :D
Pamela
-
You are doing really well Pamela! What are the bigger bears going to be, just bears, or keyrings too???
-
I wish I had the patience to sew!
I'm lucky in that there are lots of little haberdashery and craft shops close to me, and crafting is something that gets taken quite seriously as a family thing to do.
My "thing" though is beaded jewelry, both stringing and stitching, though I haven't had much time recently.
It is something I really enjoy doing on winter nights when I can't be out riding my horse.
These are some of my older projects, unfortunately I don't have any photos of my newer stuff :(
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/oconnka4/Jewelry%20Projects/PrettyinPink.jpg)
I've lost count of the times people have asked if I sell my projects - I don't, but I enjoy making things as gifts, and if anyone admires a piece I've been known to make a copy for them. I don't like taking money for them though!
-
Ooooh Casey they are lovely!
When I worked in London I started making jewellery from beads and semi precious stones, for myself and daughters, but after someone asked me at work if I sold them, I did start a little business up, but I am not that good at stringing. I've done simple things, but I love that necklace and bracelet! Beautiful!
I did a silversmithing course once too and made a few lovely bits, mainly earrings and bracelets.
As this thread is really about Auntie's Little girl picture, shall I start a thread in the general forum, so people can put pics of their projects on there?
It would be nice to see what everyone does with their spare time???
-
I think that's a great idea Ann :)
-
I know what you mean about selling your home made ´stuff´ I had made loads of cross stitch pictures, all given for gifts- I did get some back though- when mother in law and Jim ´s aunties died!
I find it embarrassing to be asked how much would such and such be if you made it- well if you charged by the hour a lot! I did once make a map of Essex in cross stitch, and sold that for the church building fund- then I was asked to make another later on, so I did and asked 10 pounds- the lady was horrified I had asked for 10 pounds- she gave me 25 pounds :D :D
The jewellery is lovely, now that really is a craft!
Pamela
ps I have a cat pattern to make key rings now
-
Okay, we sometimes get treated to a photo of something someone has made, either to eat, give as gifts, sell, or just for themselves.
We have a lot of talented people on the forums, so I thought a thread asking people to put a photo on here of some of their homecrafted items, whatever it is, (as long as its not offensive to others!) would be nice.
I'll start off then with a cross stitch which I made for my daughter's 30th birthday and turned it into her birthday card by sticking a blank card to the back of the frame. Darn, didn't realise it was fuzzy! :(
So come on everyone, show us your stuff
-
GA - that is a card that anyone would want to receive - much nicer and more personal than any shop bought one could ever be. :)
-
Thanks Springlands, I don't do so much XS at the moment, must get my head around it soon, but I do make almost all my greetings cards.
They are usually decoupaged or something.
When I worked in London, my boss at the time was married to a Swedish lady, and he asked if I could stitch her a Christmas Card with a Swedish Santa Claus on it. I had one in a magazine, and he was so pleased with it he gave me £5!!!! lol
-
Very nice jewellery pieces, Casey.
-
Could be a business idea - but then it would not be any fun.
-
That's lovely GA! :D
I can't find any pics at the moment but I used to make cloth nappies, I made most of my children's and took pride in showing off their home made cloth clad bottoms.
My husband is very clever and made this Porsche hubcap guitar a couple of weeks ago.
-
I did sell quite a few in those days. One lady bought a 'cheap' half price card from Paperchase. Look at this she said to me, it was half price, only £2.20p.
All it was, was a plain green card, with a little square on it and a tiny Christmas tree. I told her I could have made her one cheaper than that and better. She asked to see and I took one in that I'd just done of a red rose that I'd put on acetate, glass painted it and put it in the aperture.
Oh I want that one she said. I told her I didn't sell them, but she kept on so I sold it to her for £1. Then someone else came over to look and asked if I'd do one for her and I'm not one to turn down an opportunity, but I never advertised.
This was the first thing I stitched for someone, looks so childish now when I think of the other things I've done! lol
-
Oh JaK, that's brilliant! What an inventive man your hubby is! :)
-
I took two photos and tried to put them on here like I did with another pic recently. Nope - can't remember how I did it. I have pixresizer, M. O. Picture Manager and PhotoStudio 5.5 and have tried them all. Bum! ::)
-
As this thread is really about Auntie's Little girl picture, shall I start a thread in the general forum, so people can put pics of their projects on there?
It would be nice to see what everyone does with their spare time???
I did ask for others to post their projects here, Ann.
But do by all means post a topic on Chatting. I would be very interesting and perhaps give us all some ideas for winter evenings.
-
I know you did Lesley, because that's the person you are! lol But this thread is only in the Ice Box isn't it and I thought a general one would be nice. Already got a lovely guitar on there!!! :)
-
A general one for all in chatting is definitely a good idea, Ann :)
-
Don't forget to put your pictures on there Lesley!! ;)
-
I'm too shy
-
I'm too shy
PARDON??
If you don't, I will!!! ;)
They are very well made and look lovely!
-
I'll see if I have some different pictures to post on chatting.
-
Hi Goosegirl
Open the image in Microsoft Picture manager,
then click onto Edit Pictures- its on the top row.
Then on to Compress Pictures (over on the right of the screen)
you then get a range of choices, I normally find you either need 'Documents' or 'Web Pages'
Basically the further down the list the smaller the picture ends up!
Hope that helps!
-
I'm still in awe of talents here, and what a wide range too.
A beautiful cake from Dawn, exquisite jewellery from Casey and all those needlework goodies too :D
My best piece has been a cross stitch picture of a tiger I did for my father, which I guess I might have inherited. I am goin to Portsmouth later in the week so will try to take a picture to show you
-
One of the few things I am proud of, my great neice's cake. Ignore the date, I can't be bothered to learn how to change it on the camera. :)

That is really cute Ice - would have been a shame to cut into it. :)

Lovely idea for a thread Grannie.
Just shown Mr S the hubcab guitar & he said I'll send you a photo of some of mine to put on.
-
Wow those are beautiful.
My brother makes beautiful acoustic guitars - but I don't have any pictures.
-
Here's some of my craft items, the only one's I have photo's of it seems. I will have to start taking photo's of some more.
The 2nd picture I did the embroidery & Mr S made the frame &
'stitched' it together in the corners. I won 1st prize at our local garden show a couple of years ago
-
See what I mean? What talent you all have! Those guitars are wonderful Snowdrops. I love wood and it is remarkable what a bit of wood looks like when a craftsman has finished with it!
Love your little tree too. Teabag folding if I'm not mistaken??
Brian sometimes makes frames for me. He made the one for my daughter's mermaid, and he made one for my granddaughter's dolphins. I didn't stitch all of that, it was a round robin that we did when I first met Pamela on the cross stitch forum.
It went all round the world, and when I put it in the frame, I put behind the cross stich the piece of paper saying who had stitched which bit, their name and which country it was stitched in. So she has the history of that one too!

It wasn't too long ago Ice that you were very unsure of your cake decorating, but look at you now! Love the little 'Car'
-
Love the little 'Car'
Not such a 'little' car that board was 10" x 14"
Lots of very beautiful creations on this thread and some I would like to have a go at, but definately not anything to do with sewing, I'll leave that to the experts.
-
Thanks Grannie, the guitars are beautiful, the 1st one he made for our daughter, the 2nd for his boss & the 3rd for himself even though he doesn't play. He's now made a cigar box guitar at our daughter's request(she plays). They're about to start on another one.
The tree isn't teabag folding it's materials can't remember the name of the style/pattern.

Figure of speech Ice! ;) ;)
I'm with you on the sewing bit, I can't even draw a straight line, let alone stitch one! That's why I like cross stitch, it's all little squares!!! and crosses

Oooh, it looks just like teabag folding. Even nicer then if its stitched! :)

This is the doll I made from a kit for a cousins grand daughter. The small teddy in the pocket gave me an idea- I help at a refuge for abandoned dogs here in Spain and thought I could maybe make key rings to sell to raise funds to pay a vets bill (2 big dogs attacked another dog, sadly it died but the refuge had a vets bill for 160€) then another little dog got attacked, so another vets bill (that little dog is living here until he is better) so this is what I came up with for the key rings:(http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn135/spainpamela/teddykeyring003.jpg)
I have got 26€ so far- not a lot, but better than nothing1
Pamela
-
You are doing really well Pamela. Hope you raise loads more money for the poor doggies.
That dolly is lovely!
-
The doll is lovely & what a good idea for the key rings. I seem to remember you asking for the rings on another thread. Every little helps when you fund raise does'nt it.
Our WI had a charity stall on the market last week & raised £204 just from selling unwanted items that had been donated.
-
This is what I made for a friend for her glasses, but she said she would not use it, she liked hard cases for her glasses, so Aunt Sally now owns it!
And this is a bag I made for my friends Christmas:
I have loads of crossstitch pictures, mostly Hummel figure ones, I stitched them for MIL and an Aunt and got them back when they died.
Pamela
-
I'm using my glasses case every day at the moment. I'm keeping my sun glasses in it. :D
-
They're lovely. I would have been happy to put my glasses in there,I bet you didn't make her anything else.
-
This is a crewel emboridary I did and I have it hanging on the wall near my front door.
It was difficult to photograph it without a lot of reflection on the glass.
These are a couple of close ups of parts of it
(http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff221/Aunt__Sally/streetdetail2.jpg)
sorry about the reflections :(
-
That looks like it was a lot of work, lovely.
-
Lots of work but I really love doing it :D
-
It's lovely Auntie. So neat! I've never tried crewel. Used to do a bit of 'ordinary' embroidery on the train up to London, but found cross stitch was easier to concentrate on!
-
I like the great variety of stitches. I did a beautiful owl picure in cross stitch for a friend of mine who loves owls but I got a bit
tired of X X X X X X
The great feature of cross stitch is the wonderful detail you can get into a picture.
-
Really beautiful Aunt Sally :D
Here are the cats I have been asked to make- I will sell them for 1.50€
I will post a photo of the dog we are looking after (and raising funds for the vets fees) on the pets without feathers page.
Pamela
Ps I hate sewing cross stitch that has big blocks of colour- I get bored easily
-
They are adorable, Oliveview.
I think it's wonderful to be making them for your charity :D
-
They are so sweet Pamela. I think its wonderful you raising all this money for the dog charity.
The thing I like about cross stitch Auntie is that it is so easy to put down and pick up again and remember where you left off! lol
The worse thing is having to do loads of sky and grass, they are not easy to remember where you are on the chart because one bit of grass looks like another!
-

This is what I'm working on at the moment
(http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff221/Aunt__Sally/Flowers.jpg)
A bit of detail
(http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff221/Aunt__Sally/Flowersdetail.jpg)
-
Oh that is going to look lovely! What neat stitches!
-
I am like the incredible hulk, going green with envy!
Pamela
-

-
It even has peas
-
I'm totally crafty!! ;)
Cardmaking, scrapbooking (each and every one of my holidays!!), cross-stitch and I make quited bunting and cushions for children and new babies.
I'm looking forward to trying more difficult embroidery and I'd love to make a patchwork quilt.
Goodness knows how I find the time to garden really! :D
-
Ooo... sounds interesting.
Pictures please :)
-
Yes, come on Devon, where's the pics???? :)
-
I've tried pictures on here before and they never work :(
Sorry!
I take pictures of everything too :(
-
Have you read this one?
Look, if I can post pictures, anyone can!!
-
WOW There is some really brilliant talent out there....well done all of you!! :D

Here are some of the cross stitch Hummel pictures I stitched:

Thought I might post a couple of my efforts, but the standard on here is WAY high!!
The photos of all the crafty work are extremly brilliant - very tallaned and dedicated!
Ah well, here goes anyhow, here's one of the bunnies I knittd:

Some of the cosies I sold for charity:

And finally for now some more bunney decorations I again knitted for charity:

There's a bit of a theme going here ;)
Hannah :)
-
This is a round robin cross stitch that lots of folk stitched on. I did the top pattern.
and finally my map of Essex:

Hannah :)
Hannah, the folk that are the talented ones are the folk who can paint a picture or design a picture to stitch themselves, I can only follow a pattern/chart! When I think of the very first cross stitch picture I stitched, it was terrible, I had crosses going all over the place, I did not know you had to keep the top stitch the same way all the time! Mine went all over the place! I do not have the picture anymore, it was a koala bear, I can see it in my mind still.
Post your pictures please, we would love to see them.
Pamela

Lovely bunnies so cute :)
-
Now that is one cute bunny, does he have any friends to show us?
Pamela
-
looking at your rabbits Willow Warren it looks like they have been breeding like ......... well like rabbits of course
They are lovely - I especially like the idea of the cosie ones :D
-
Are you crafty? Erm, guilty as charged  In more ways than one too. :D
I have done many crafts over the years, weaving, candlemaking, enamel jewellry, polishing and cutting gemstones, pottery, creative embroidery and x stitch embroidery, soft toys and moving musical boxes but then I found gardening so I keep the craft activities to bead work, quilling, cross stitch and am planning to embark on some quilting projects.
Also since making the preserves to sell I have to pace myself or the ulneritus kicks in :(
-
And..
-
And..
Try again.
-
And a few more
-
And the last few.

Gosh what a lot of lovely work. I love that knitted bunny, Willow Warren.
Pamela, your pictures are so pretty and so cute.
Mrs B, what a lot you've done
-
I should have said the large bunny is from the Fuzzy Mitten website and the little bunny decorations and egg cosies are from the Little Cotton Rabbits website!
My first cross stitches were the same, stitches going all over the place! I don't cross stitch much any more mainly because don't have the time and also I can't cross stitch and watch the telly at the same time (like I can with knitting - sort of...)
There are so many more things I'd like to do craft wise :)
H :)
-
Years ago, I did pottery and made a little house, a mushroom home for an elf that can have a night light in the back, and a clown - never did get the clown's mouth right and the red colour disappeared on firing, but never mind.
-
What about you men out there????? There must be someone who has made something?
Pamela

Wow, I am so pleased I started this thread on here, all thanks to aunt Sally! What a lot of lovely things.
Willow Warren, don't put yourself down, your knitting is lovely. So neat and tidy. I'm not too good at putting my things together.
At the moment I'm knitting squares to make into a cushion for my great granddaughter. 5 Squares spell out her name and 3 squares have basic animal shapes on. The others are plain. I want to try to join them together neatly, but sometimes I pull my thread too tight and it looks untidy.
Then I've promised my friend down in Kent a crochet shawl for her first grandchild due in January. I've done this shawl 4 times now over the years, and it still pleases me when its finished. This is a bit of the last one I did. Very easy pattern, but looks good at the end
-
My MIL used to make fantastic shawls, knitted n very fine wool, now that I would not like to do, I am more an chunky aran type of girl
Pamela
-
Two more from me, done in pastels many years ago. By the way Aunt Sally, your crewel work is to die for!!!
-
So lovely to see such beautiful work, motivates me to do some as I haven't done any recently. My last big project was this quilt.
-

Anything finer than 4 ply would scare me too Pamela!
That's a beautiful quilt Mosslane. I've often wanted to try quilting, but not brave enough to try yet. My friend Jacqui and I were signed up to a course at an adult ed college once, but there weren't enough people, so they had to cancel it!
Your pastels are very good Goosegirl!
-
We have a friend who took up painting lessons a couple of years ago, he had no idea he was good at painting! He was 65 when he started the lessons. He does the most fantastic faces, he is so good. His father was a good artist, but our friend had never tried, always fancied trying and when he did found he was really good :D
Everything here so far is brilliant :D :D ç
I used to go to lace making classes, the lessons stopped though due to a huge price hike in fees. I made the MIL a lovely lace edging to put onto a mat for the dressing table, I was sewing it onto some lovely fine linen and the linen was too big, so I trimmed it, unfortunatly I trimmed through the lace I had made  I cried! It had taken me months to do too. MIL never did get her lace edged dressing table mat.

Wow! What a talented bunch you all are! I love crafts of all sorts (and have tried my hand at most over the years!), it is lovely to see all the beautiful things that you have made. :)

Great fun to use, and sooooooo quiet too...;0)
-
Growster that is really clever, a real thing of beauty. That looks like it was always meant to be there. You could market them. :) I love tools, especially old ones, I have the loveliest dibber I found on my plot, made from an old wooden fork handle. Better than anything that you can buy and worn smooth from years of use. I like the fact that your wheel hoe is quiet too, everything modern is so noisy. The old push/pull mowers used to make a really soothing sound, now you need ear defenders when the petrol mowers come out! Your hoe deserves to be looked after! :)
-
I bead mainly. I tend to swing between stringing and stitching depending on how I'm feeling.
I'm too analytical to much "freestyle" work, so most of my projects are symmetrical or at least balanced, but since I really only make for me it's not a problem!

I also dabble in card making, but I don't have any photos of that :(
-
Oh Casey, they are really gorgeous. SO much time and effort.
Do you sell them at craft fairs?
-
No, I've never sold anything. I've given plenty away, and I've made copies of things to people who've expressed an interest, but it isn't something I've ever made money from.
I'm always amazed at the prices people charge though, for their beaded jewelery, especially in America. I happened to pop into a bead shop when I was in Virginia a couple of years ago, and got chatting to the owner, she said she often sells pieces for over $250, and they weren't much more intricate than the blue and white necklace!
-
What a shame I do not live closer to you Casey, you could give me lessons in beading
I often wonder how folk can make so much money from some of the things they make, I guess they factor in all the hours some things take. I like making things for presents.
Pamela
-
One ex forum member does a lot of crocheting, and she sells a lot on ETSY. Sends stuff all over the world!
I've got a little bead loom I bought years ago, must have another go at that in the winter. I bought my SIL one too, and although really meant for children, she loved it as she loves Native American stuff and she made herself loads of things on it.
I love your jewellery Casey, did you make the silver setting for the last piece?
-
I did GA, though it isn't silver, it's aluminium ;) It pretends to be silver though, and I find it very malleable which is good for practice work... I never graduated to using sterling.
-
It does look like silver doesn't it? Its very pretty.
-
Does watermelon carving count as crafty? - If so I shall let you know if I'm any good in a couple of hours ;)
-
Picture needed VG7.
We must see proof.
-
before our computer 'died' and we sent it to a local Hospital I had photos of a cruise we did with lots of watermelon carvings and ice carvings, shame they all got lost! They were a bit 'fuzzy' though as we never noticed the vibration of the ship. Still think they are very clever though. (why are lap top key boards so small, sorry, on my daughters)
-
This is a quilt I made. It is made off all my old pyjamas as they already know how to do sleeping! :D

Talk about frugal! :)
What a lovely way to use up your old jimjams Kate!
-
Crumbs - all the talent on here (except me) is totally awe-inspiring. I used to play the guitar - would love to know how these on here sounded - is one a Dobro? I've made my own curtains, both window and door ones, but could never do anything intricate like on here. Jewellery is gorgeous and the quilt - heaven!
-
Kate and her ducks i love your quilt, how did you get the actual quilting done? Did you take it somewhere or do you have one of those lovely quilting machines? My machine is good but isnt a long arm one so it is really hard to do any quilting to that extent.
Here are some of the bits i have made (sorry it is a lot but i didnt want to post them al seperatly!)
I have just had an order for a quilted bed runner and i have the fabric for my own bed cover.

-
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/oconnka4/Jewelry%20Projects/Craftpendant1.jpg)
This is beautiful, I love the scrolly bits.
I have a sewing machine with a free motion foot (think that's what its called). Means that you can move the fabric in any direction. Takes a bit of getting used to and I broke quite a few needles the first time I used it! It's great though. When I first started I quilted by hand and that really is a lob our of love as it takes forever!
-
Wow did you do that on a standard size machine then? I have a free motion foot but just find the fabric too big to physically move that well.
-
not as intricate as many of the watermelon carvings I've just looked at on google images but I was challenged by a friend to do a death star (star wars), and I can't turn down a challenge!
I also needed it to be whole so I can feed it with vodka :D - 2nd pic is the start of the process
I was also challenged earlier in the year to make a rubik's cube cake... 3rd picture :)
There seems to be a food and alcohol theme to my craftiness  :D
-
and the other side to rubiks cake...
-
That melon looks brilliant. When you've finished feeding it with vodka you can send me a slice  ...
... love the cake :)
-
thanks Aunt Sally :)
-
With the teddy bear, dog and cat keyrings I have made I have taken around 70€ so that has paid off one of the refugio´s vets bills. I am having a break from keyrings and turning to shopping bags now- just using the material I have in the house, so it will be pot luck!
Pamela
-
I love anything crafty! I dabble in a bit of sewing (recently made 28 superhero capes for a birthday party), knitting, card making & scrapbooking. My main focus lately though is cake making and decorating. I'm currently doing a non conventional wedding cake for this sat, but here's some of my other cakes. For some reason don't seem to have photos of anything else!
-
And this one is my favourite!
-
Oh Cake lady they are lovely!
I am so jealous of you people with a steady hand!!!
-
What fantastic cakes, I have a friend who makes cakes too, so clever.
Here is bag no.1 I took it to the refugio this afternoon as I had to deliver the keyrings, Beatriz was taking some pups to the vet, so she took the bags I have made, she said there might be someone there to buy them!(http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn135/spainpamela/bags002.jpg)
This is the other bag they took:

Wow, there are some very talented people on here.
I dabble from time to time in crafts, and last Christmas I made some printed aprons, printed gift and bottle bags, festive stockings, flannel cupcakes, etc which I sold for a local charity. I am planning to sell the unsold items at my daughter's school fayre this Christmas.

They are good though :D
Pamela

   Indeed ;)
-
I love the stocking most Angela, but they are very good! :)
-
Awwww....!! Fab makes everyone, I've enjoyed having a good nosey :)
I'm very proud of my recent drawing (does drawing count as a craft?) it's of a VERY weedy plot...now who would allow their plot to get in such a mess and then go and draw it looking all higgledy piggledy (Ahem!) ::)
Well Yes OK it's my plot, and instead of getting to grips with the weeds I decided to have a sit down and draw them instead :D
I hope you like it. x
-
I like that sketch very much Claire - excellent drawing!
I was looking to see if Pooh Bear might appear, it's very much as good as the A.A.Milne story illustrations!
-
An excellent drawing, I wish I could draw half as good as that!
Pamela
-
Pooh is in the shed eating hunny!! It's absolutely great, as are so many things on here. LOVE the cakes, expecially the one of W and G.
-
Fabulous drawing, Claire 8)
I've always wished I could draw - but I can't :(
-
Artistic more than crafty I suppose, but it's still a craft isn't it?
You are VERY good Claire, I can't draw for toffee. The highest I ever got for a sketch in school was a 'C' and I think that was only because the teacher felt sorry for me!
You are like me, when I used to take photo's of my cross stitched pictures, I always stood them on the radiator!!!! :)
-
Could do with a radiator here to stand a photo on!! I have to hang things on the fence to photograph
Pamela
-
Ha!! Yep, these rads come in handy.
It was tricky trying to photograph the picture without the light shining on it or where you couldn't see the tip in the rest of the room ::)
Thanks for the great comments...sometimes it's hard to accept compliments but it certainly does you good to hear them. X x x
-
At least hanging things on the fence there is the olive grove next door as a backdrop
Pamela
-
Oliveview, I am now quite jealous of your fence :D
X x
-
I have been stitching a new bag this afternoon, I used cheap thread, it looks dreadful, does not lay ´flat´ so I am having to unpick it. I will just keep the rubbish thread for tacking instead.
Pamela
-
No good you having a radiator Pamela until you get a back boiler for that woodburner!!!
-
I'm just here to tell you that I entered my drawing into the show on Saturday and I got 3rd!!!! To say I was thrilled is an understatement :D
Thanks for all your encouraging words.
I also entered a little doll (obviously not much success in the veg classes, can you tell ::)) and she got a 2nd!!!!! Different shows (it's had a fabulous weekend for outings!) but thrilled all the same.
Unfortunately I can never add pics on here from my phone... Unless you know how. So I can't show you the pics of my fab weekend yet. But I'll promise to fire up the (useless)laptop so I can show you later in the week. Basically...I'm a big show off now!! Hee hee. Xxx
-
Well done Claire :)
How lovely to win prizes :D

Can you use photobucket from your phone ?
-
I've never used photobucket.
What I've been doing is just emailing the photo to myself selecting what size I want and then logging on to my laptop and save and post it from there. It's easier than it sounds...if the laptop is switched on!
xx

(thanks Aunty!!)
I also have news of a '2nd prize' from a certain pot of jam too!! But I'll post that over in the right section soon. X x x

I also have news of a '2nd prize' from a certain pot of jam too!!
Well done :D
-
Well done for the prizes :D I am a happy bunny too, no prizes but I have managed to pay off the first vets bill for the dog refuge with the sales of the keyrings (62€) Now starting to pay off the 2nd bill (about 80€) by making bags!
Pamela
-
That's wonderful of you, Pamela :D
-
That's amazing money and I love that bag!
-
I bought the material about a year ago to make my sister a bag for Christmas, she is still waiting!
We have friends staying next week, I need to get lots of sewing done this week and then I can clear away the stuff, the table in the living room is covered! What I need to do is get rid of a bed in the spare bedroom and get a table in there and turn that room into my sewing room.
Pamela
-
Good idea, Pamela :)
-
Ooooh Pamela!! That's lovely!! ...and on such a lovely fence too :D
How fab that you're selling things and making money to actually pay bills, very rewarding.
Well here is the picture of my little dolly who came 2nd in the Sunday's show. I've named her after my Mum, who if I was to compare the 2, isn't much taller  (iccle Ede!)
...and then I'll leave you be and stop demanding attention :)
-
Brilliant doll, a lady at the patchwork class made a couple of dolls, one looked like the Duchess of Alba (Google, you will get a fright  )
Keep the pictures coming
Pamela
-
That is delightful, Claire :)
-
couple of items i've knitted or crocheted
tea cosy and beret with pin on rose
-
Love the teacosy and the hat :D
Here is my latest doing, a doll to raffle for the refuge.
Her ´hair´ is made of a bag of ´texture yarns´ I bought them years ago (about 12, I knew they would come in handy one day  ) There is assorted threads, ribbon, glittery wool etc in the hair.
Pamela
-
That doll is beautiful, Pamela. How long did she take to make ?
-
About 24 hours all in- hence no housework!!
Pamela
-
Adorable :D
(my next project)
-
Wish I was in Spain to buy a raffle ticket, she's beautiful :D you're a very talented lady Pamela ;)
-
It won´t be a raffle as such, there are 100 boxes, numbered from 0-99 and you pay 1€ and put your name in a box. On a date set you watch the tv for the ONCE (daily lottery draw) and I think it is the last number drawn, if you match that number you win the prize.
Pamela
-
That's clever :)
-
theres some increadable stuff on this section , i do cross stitch and some machine sewing im thinking of getting back into the knitting .
chrissie b
-
I like knitting aran- I knitted Mercedes a lovely cardigan, it looked good on her, she wore it a lot, then washed it on a boil wash by mistake- ended up with felt!!
Pamela
-
I now need to sew up the cushion that I knitted for great granddaughter with her name across the centre, then not sure what to do for the back, knit huge square, or use material?
But I've just started to crochet another of the shawls that I put the pic on here of. My friend in Kent is going to be a first time granny in January!
But as people are putting loads of things on of their projects, here are another couple of cross stitches I was pleased with!
-
GrannieAnnie - that Christmas Angel is beautiful - and so is the dog. :) This thread has really inspired me - I am going to start some projects this autumn/winter. Crocheting to start and then maybe some cross stitch. :)
-
So much talent that it really makes me want to start painting or sewing again. The trouble is that I have masses of decorating to catch up with. :(
-
ive got loads of pics just folded in my box and left a few in greece , im looking for a frame for a baby one ive done for a lad at hubbys work whos lass just had twins , they are just 17 years old as well

Oops I did wonder  Doll is lovely but then again so is Timon :D
-
Timón is not lovely- he is having to stay inside at night as we have rat traps set and he can jump the fence- he decided to join us to sleep on our bed- so I shut the door and he yelled at the door instead. I am thinking of having him stuffed, he will be well behaved then :D
Pamela
PS it isn´t a bad as it sounds the dogs sleeping outside- they have a nice warm kennel (unless Charlie decides to take all the covers out) and it is under the covered patio (only 1 wall open to the outside.
-
I love her name and red hair Pamela ;) :D
-
Hi everyone, sorry haven't been on here much lately, been a bit sidetracked with other things. This is my latest patchwork which I finished on Sunday.
Nice to see so many people being creative.
-
Oh Mosslane, that is lovely! Yes, I'm pleased I started this thread, we seem to have got a few people starting up their crafting again too!! :) :)
-
That is lovely Mosslane- it would not last 5 min here that clean- Mili and Miki would be using it as their bed
Pamela
-
Wonderful and love the colours :D
-
That's lovely Mosslane. Made to measure :D
-
Oh my gosh - just found this thread and spent 20 minutes or so admiring all your work. How crafty and diverse are all of you? - also you all garden as well :)
I re-took up crotcheting a couple of years ago. I can't really follow a pattern to save my life but make lots of different granny squares to turn into blankets. I've been suffering from anxiety/depression?stress the last few months for the first time ever and have found it soooo theraputic.
I'll have to go around my family and take photos of the blankets I have done and post here (nothing like the professional items you have all produced though).
For all of you who do patchwork, I have an inherited project which is about 80 years old and don't have a clue what to do with it. Will try and post photos in the next couple of days.
-
Hi Sarahjane, we'll look forward to your photo's.
I am crocheting a shawl for a good friend's first grandchild at the moment. I get lost with intricate patterns, but the pattern for this is so easy. The shawl is nearly 4 ft long, but once I'm into the pattern, I just check the first few stitches on each row, then I can do the rest of the row without looking at the pattern again.
I can't hold the hook properly though. I have to hold it like I do a knitting needle, but it works okay for me.
-
Whoops, Timón isn´t stuffed!

Marvellous!

I don't know if either of these efforts qualify but both are 'hand made'. :D
-
Perhaps I shouldn't have called this thread 'Crafty' lol, but if I'd said homemade or handmade, it may have got taken over by cakes and loaves of bread!
But your items are lovely too Thrift. Very clever. I am hopeless at painting, and can't even draw a straight lone, let alone stitch one!! ;) ;)
-
I would lve to be able to paint, your horse is fantastic :D
Pamela

, I'm pleased I started this thread, we seem to have got a few people starting up their crafting again too!! :) :)
I'm pleased you started it too - lovely to see all the beautiful things people have made! Everyone is so talented!
...and it's made me think about getting the patchwork quilt out that I started 6 years+ ago and have never finished :nowink: :D

I think "Teddy's scarf" (my one and only attempt at learning to knit) that I started 35 years ago is probably beyond redemption these days ... ::)

I'm not really a suit case sort of person . ::) I've bought a couple of hold-all type bags from charity shops in the past but you have to have what they have for sale.
So as I'm going away for a few days next week I've spent the last couple of days making myself a set of bags from curtain off cuts from my remnant box.
My favourite is the one on the left. Its a sort of Gladstone bag shape.

They look really lovely Spana, very neatly stitched! I'm not very good at stitching.
-
I'm not very good at stitching.
:D
I'm not very good a cross stitch ::) Well thats not quite true, I'm bl***y awful at cross stitch :D
-
Beautiful fabric - was it Laura Ashley? I'd probably overfill the biggest one, although it is a lovely shape, and then struggle to carry it without a long strap too!
-
Spana the bags are lovely!! I have pm´d you.
Here is my latest doll:(http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn135/spainpamela/StuartsvsitOct12067.jpg)
It is sold for the dog refuge castration funds
Pamela
-
Oh Pamela, another lovely dolly!
Spana, cross stitch is so easy, any idiot can do it, well me for one!
But the stitching I have seen on here is very impressive!
-
The one ´craft´ I really really really envy is painting- not the walls but a picture, I wish I could even begin to paint a picture
Pamela
-
Beautiful doll Pamela ...... and I love the bags Spana. :)
Just a thought ...... I'm wondering if all these fantastic skills are restricted to a certain age. I do hope some of the young are learning to sew, bake and be creative. So many seem to be totally inept and therefore have to buy every little thing.
-
You are so right Thrift.
But i dont think the youngsters need to make things for themselves as they can just buy whatever and everything they want so easily.
When I was young i couldn't get clothes in the shops that i wanted so I had to make my own.
Also my mum was a serious dress maker so I suppose its in my genes. My mum died when i was 7, and at 8 i was taken to hospital with a sewing machine needle through my finger where i'd been trying to make a dress.
I think the quality of the work shown here is amazing, the embroidery is wonderful and love the new doll Pamela.
Nice to know craft skills are not completely gone.
Keep posting the pics everyone, this is a lovely topic to browse

They are lovely Spana, the fabric is similar to my lounge curtains. I will never look at my curtains the same again lol! ;)
-
As the weather is lousy, thought I would start a new project. Fancied some sewing so called in at the charity shop to see if I could pick up any material to recycle. Struck lucky and found some beautiful curtains for £5. They were too good to cut up for patchwork so I have decided to revamp our kitchen chairs. Chair on the left is the old look, chair on the right my newly designed and sewn cover, removable for washing. Pretty pleased with myself.Only 5 more to do ::)
-
Ooooh that's very bright and cheery Mossy! Lovely!
-
Lovely Mossy. A bargain find, a few hours work and 6 new chairs. I find charity shops wonderful for fabrics and I pick up losts of oddments of wool for projects.
-
I've taken a pattern from my favourite cross-body carpet bag and made it up in another remnant left over from curtains. :)
I'm really getting hooked on bag making and its clearing out all the bits of fabric that i've kept, which are not really big enough to make much else with.
I used a magnetic snap fastener for the first time. Must confess i was nervous about fitting it but it was really easy. I did find the bag more difficult to put together with the lining than i thought it would be but dont think its turned out too bad for very little cost.

Very good Spana, well done! JUst don´t stand next to the curtains when you use the bag  Reminds me of a lady I used to know, she made some curtains for the daughters bedroom, had so much material left over that she made them all PE bags of the same material- and much to the 3 childrens annoyance she made them dresses and trousers (for the son) they said it was bad enough having clothes the same as the school PE bags, but they were really upset in having clothes the same as the bedroom curtains!

Lovely bag Spana, wish I could stitch so neatly!
And loved your little story Pamela!
-
Spana - are you taking orders - very nice :D
-
That is beautiful; I love your fabric choices :D
-
Brilliant Spana ...... I have so many remnants, it's a pity you don't live nearer. :D
-
don't know whether this will show but promised photo of the old quilting I have. Its about 10 foot long by 5 wide and we reckon on it having over 2000 pieces. There is still the paper in the back of all the pieces, one dating back to 1921.

A couple more photos

and another (don't seem to be able to post more than 1 at a time)

At least you are only doing it with 2. And it is a lovely thing to pass on.
I used to do it singlehanded with 30 in the class. How I managed not to use foul and abusive language when unpicking and sorting out muddles I don't know. :wacko:I was obviously a total professional.

Ha ha very funny Mrs Ball (said as if I was the little boy in the Indiana Jones film)
-
Sarajane, that is beautiful, such a lot of time and effort gone into it. Who made the quilt?
Pamela
-
We haven't got a clue. It was found amongst Aunty Gertys belongings when she died in her late 80's, 25 years ago. We think it must have been passed down to her as bless her she was not a seamstress.
It is still an unfinished project as the ends have not been finished and I haven't a clue what to do with it. It certainly cannot be washed, it would take weeks to remove all the tacking that is still in every individual piece.
I'm thinking of asking the museum in Chester or Liverpool if they want it as it is such a shame for it to be wrapped up in the wardrobe.
-
In some old quilts they left the paper in for extra insulation - I had one like that when I was little ;)

There might be a craft or quilting club near you who would be interested in completing the project.
-
I've an old quilt that my great Grandmother made & that's done on an old grey blanket, the patchwork material is all scraps of old clothes etc. I used to use it as a play blanket for the children when they were little. It's all cleaned & put away now. It wouldn't stand another wash. It must be over 100 years old.

I've just been googling and Hey, there's a large group that meet once a month just down the road from me so I'll be off there in december or january.
Thanks for that Springlands. This is why I love this site, so many ideas from soooo many folk :D

Hi all,
I thought I would share my latest project - 39 masks for my daughter's nativity play next week! Here are 21 of them:
Each one features some Christmas glitter  If you can't have some Christmas glitter when you are under-5 when can you?!
-
they are brilliant :D
-
they are brilliant :D
and....................glittery :D

Brill. You must have the patience of a saint. I bet they took quite a while to do.
-
WOW, they are smashing

About 2 and a half days plus a couple of hours sourcing some of the materials (the rest came from my sewing hoard!) I also got third degree burns on my fingertips due to the hot glue which are thankfully healing now!
-
Love them
Pamela
-
They're brilliant! :)

kids will love them very nice

Beautiful, Lesley :D
-
Thanks - the cake was actually pale pink, the colour hasn't shown very well.
My icing skills are very rusty - but I have to keep practising now, cos who knows when I'll get to make the wedding cake ::)
-
Did you make the flowers too ?
-
Yes, I have lots of different leaf and petal cutters that you mould into flower shapes.
They must be oooh........ some of them, about 40odd years old from when I made my first wedding cake ................. my own
-

You should try cross stitch or card making Dawn, they are soooo easy. Must be, I can do them!
I made all my Christmas cards last year. 77 of them!
From the easiest to the bit more fiddley!
-
Here's a photo of the cushions I've made for a friends birthday on Tuesday, she like Radley bags etc. I had enough material left to make a doorstop as well. The pattern was in Prima a few months ago.
When I was putting all my festive decs away I took some photo's of the things I have made over the years,do you want to see them now or wait until December
-
Awww Snowy they are so cute!
Yes, pics please of your decs, doesn't matter what season it is, we love pics!!!!! :) :)
-
Ok then here goes, I think the wreaths are the 1st thing I made for that time of year at the sewing group I go to,we think it has been running about 16/17 years, I went to the 2nd one. It's on the 1st Saturday of the month.I made one at the group & then another one at home. They've gone up every December since.
-
Not sure if I've not already shown you this first one,the 2nd one we did last year I think
-
Here to we made a couple of years apart,I chose to do them in a Festive material.
-
Last years offering,I knew my sister would want one so when I went to see her in December Itook it to show her & then brought one nearly finished out of the bag & finished it there & she got to choose which one she wanted
-
Aww Snowy, they are lovely!
I haven't made much in the line of decs, but it's lovely when I get all my decs out, some going back to when I was a child, brings back memories of how I came by each one.
-
Yes that's what I like too,I couldn't be one of these people that change the colour scheme to go with the room decor or what's fashionable. Or the one's that don't let the children take part as it will spoil the look   Then let them have a tree in an out of way place to do want they want with.
By the way I forgot to say your cards looked lovely. At WI next week we're doing Tbag folding, that will probably end up being a card.I'm hoping to got to Hobbycrafts in March, lots of card making stuff there
-
I used to work alongside a chap like that. Every year he had a different colour theme. Everything, tree, decs, and everything else in the room had to be one colour.
Goodness knows what the 'black' year looked like! Another year was white, then purple........
I love my traditional tree, even though it is artificial! :) :)

My DIL had a Baby Shower party recently, at which each of her friends made a piece for bunting to decorate the baby's room.
This is the one I made -- not yet backed so edges still raw
Soo pleased :D :D :D as it is the first thing I have made for some years, as I have found it very difficult to use my hands The stitching is a bit boggly, and five years ago it would have been more perfect, but nonetheless I am proud of my little fish :D
PS The pink blob is a snail in its shell
-
It is lovely, what a good idea!
Pamela
-
Aww that is such a sweet idea very clever good job she didnt have me as a friend else there would be a very odd piece of bunting
-
What a lovely idea Sunny,& Granny's piece is lovely,I'm sure baby will love the fish & snail too.
-
Everyone made sea creature-themed triangles. Some of them were very amusing, especially the octopuses
-
I think it looks great sunshine,
I always think that handmade items look better if they are not perfect. It adds to the quirkiness of the item made. A one of a kind.
When I question my not so perfect outcome, I was always think "If you wanted it perfect you should of bought it" and "If you bought then it... well wheres the fun in that"
... what a waste of talent"
... Where's the personal touch"
... etc etc etc
Would love to see the the completed bunting, Pic's please :) ;)
-
A lot of my hand made items have "unique design elements" (some more obvious that others )
Hannah :)
-
Oh my stuff is very unique!

This is my latest ´craft´ Mr Fix-it a clown from the Jean Greenhowe(?) pattern books. I have ordered the Red Nose Gang book to do some knitting from now. He is to be raffled for the dog refuge funds.
Pamela
-
He's lovely, hope you get lots of takers in the raffle for him
-
Oh Pamela, he is gorgeous! Such a happy chappy!
-
What talented members we have. I used to do cross stitch and still have all my supplies in the loft. I also made jewellery with swarovski crystal pearls. I made some for my daughters wedding including a tiara. I will take some photos to post. :)
-
Adorable, Pamela :D
-
The clown is beautiful Pamela. There is so much work in him.
-
My mum used to knit all the clowns Pamela - amazing how many people would ask her to make one for them!
Your picture does bring back memories. :)
-
Here is the last cross stich I did. It isn't finished as I have a problem with my shoulders plus eye sight isn't what it used to be. Hopefully I will get to finish it one day. :D
-
Some of the jewellery I have made.
-
Here are a couple of my tiaras, the cream one just needs threading with whatever hair colour the bride/bridesmaid has. :)
-
Love the jewellery ANHBUC - such a shame that you find it difficult to do the cross stitch now - I have the same problem with my knitting - after a short time the arthritis starts to pain me.
-
Lovely jewellery ANHBUC. When I took the clown into show folk and to get them to buy a number they said I was very clever, I said no, I just followed the instructions, the person who designed the pattern in the first place is the very clever person, not me! Now your jewellery is really clever!
Pamela
-
Jewellery making is such a fun hobby AHNBUC!
Yours is very pretty.
I got bitten by the bug well and truly when the 'Stitch 'n' B*tch' girls and I went to a Christmas Craft lunch at St Mellion Golf club in Cornwall and we made stretchy bracelets!
Now I have thousands of beads and a local shop in town which displays pictures of my work among others
All my girlfriends get jewellery for birthdays now!
-
Not really Pamela, it was a case of "How much" when we were buying for our eldest daughters Wedding. Then it was "I could make that for a fraction of the price". I got one of those looks off her and knew she had major doubts so I said if she didn't like what I made that was all right.
I spent loads of time as a youngster fixing my Grandmothers jewellery so have always had an interest. They are handy to have for presents and I have given quite a few for to friends for raffles for Air Ambulance and local Hospices.
I have considered contacting local Bridal shops DBG but I can only do them when health allows. Alright if someones Wedding was for next year but not for next month. ::)
-
I can't claim any of these, they belong to my better half, but thought I would show a few off:
She has a website (http://"http://bluebirdvintagehandmae.wordpress.com") where she uploads photos of what she's making. None of it is for sale, so hopefully the link is allowed as non-spam?
She doesn't know I'm showing anything off on here but I will point her in the direction of the topic. She loves stuff like this :)
Pot holders/table protectors for casserole dishes and the like:

Awww all very pretty stuff!
I used to make semi precious stones jewellery. Started making them for me, then the girls at work admired them and said can we have some, and I sold loads. the company let me borrow a meeting room once to spread all my stuff out, and I made over £200 in 2 hours!
But my jewellery making stuff had been hanging around here for several years, so 2 years ago I gave it to a lady in the village for her daughter who was mad on making things, but at the time they were hard up and couldn't afford to get her much.
It was no good trying to sell the bits as they go for peanuts on things like Ebay, but there must have been a good £500 of stuff there. Hope she made good use of it!
I'm still plodding on with my mermaid for my Nici's 40th in October, but its on 16 count as I can't manage 32 count now, and its taking AGES!
-
Sowitgrowit, your wife´s ´stuff´ is great! The pan holders are too pretty to use!

Thanks, I will pass that on :)
She's actually my wife-to-be, and on a related note, whilst I'm showing off on her behalf, this will be her bouquet (almost finished, made from sheet music):

She's rather talented.

She certainly is tallanted, that boquet looks amazing!!
Hannah :)
-
Oh yes indeedy, that bouquet IS amazing! And she will be able to keep it forever!
-
That bouquet is fantastic! Very talented indeed
-
Wow that bouquet is quite something!
I love the paper crafted flowers.
We (the S&B gang) helped out a colleague, Helen, whose daughter got married last year. We made sheet music bunting for the hall where her reception was (the daughter studies music in Scotland somewhere).
Her mum ordered some fantastic fabric that was printed with sheet music and it looked great. We made metres and metres of it! We were all sat round the table with our sewing machines like a proper sewing bee!
Helen made us a lovely buffet lunch too
Our motto is Stitch and b*tch and lunch!! Or cake!!!
-
She really is tallented, what a lovely thing to keep after the Wedding. :)
-
If anyone is interested I've put a few pics in my gallery of some of my craft projects.
Have finally sussed photos!! :D

After all, it isn't JUST about growing veg is it? :) :)

Well my life is entirely about crafting and gardening!
That's why I have no kids - no time!!

Sounds good to me! lol My best friend Jacqui had the right idea. She works to support herself. No husband, her own little house and in the evenings after work, she goes home and does exactly as SHE LIKES!!!!!
She's a crafter too. Mainly cross stitch, but she makes these amazing little flowery arrangements that she sticks to people's Christmas presents. I had so many I didn't know what to do with them all. I did put a few on other people's presents, but that was a shame, so I've started making them in little Christmas wreaths to hang around the house.
-
I taught the Stitch 'n' B*tchers how to make Kirstie's ribbon roses with wired ribbon - which incidently was sold at 99p per roll (nearly 2m each roll) at my local Cornish garden centre *thumbs up* :D :D :D.
The purple velvet ribbon one I made looks almost real.
Makes pretty gift accessories.

Got any pics DBG?

Let me see...
...here you are :D
and a necklace I made for one of my best friend's birthday

They're lovely DBG,how's the edge of the ribbon rose made?

I can't describe it so it makes sense!!
look on the channel 4 website for Kirstie's scrapbook and you'll see how their made ;)

The new knitted clown for the refuge funds. Jumbo, our dog, ate the first hamburger, I was just finishing off the ´sesame seeds´ on the top roll, looked for the rest of the burger but could not find it, it turned up under Jumbo, he was pretending he knew nothing about it! It took me another 3 hours of knitting (and unpicking) and sewing to do another burger!

Pamela he's lovely, how much do you tend to make on your raffles?
-
They do it on the ONCE numbers- the last 2 of a set days draw. We have numbers 00-99 and folk choose a number so the most I can make is 100€ the last clown got 85€
Going to make a new clown for the vet to raffle.
Pamela

My mum made hundreds of those clowns! Just about every one designed I think.
People really do like them. They're cute :)

I made these for my daughter's birthday on Friday :)

The icing flowers are so delicate and beautiful mum.
One of my best friends loves owls - she'd love the patchwork owl.
-
The owl is just beautiful - so cute. And the decorations of the cake - look good enough to eat. :D
-
Both are lovely Mum. I bet she loved them.
-
Thank you all - and yes she did like them :D

Just taken up painting at the age of 40, done around 10 so far, this is one for my dragon mad brother in law.
Here 3 in 1 shot sort of, I will have to get then off my phone properly and into a folder on the PC, the one if the foreground has had a tree added in the left and corner and the branches spread across to the centre.

Fabulous pictures Bluealf!!!! :) :)
-
Love the dragon picture - there is almost seems to be a Chinese/Japanese influence coming out there. I would love to see more if you have any to show us. :)
-
Oooh they are lovely. I like the dragon one best too!
-
Crikey those paintings are incredible!
My better half recently took part in a ladies' "Retreat" day at the local church that hosts the playgroup our daughter goes to every week. She taught people to crochet, showed off the sorts of things you can make, etc, and by all accounts it went down pretty well!
Making up the packs for each of them was a bit of a faff (one crochet hook, half a ball of wool wound off, a little printed guide), but worth it as the feedback has been very positive.

There is nothing like crafting with friends.
My group of friends loves a 'Stitch 'n' B*tch' - we get withdrawal symptoms if we don't get together often enough!
-
I have certainly arrived at the Craft stage of life.......Can't Remember A Flipping Thing!!!! ::)
-
Thank you very much, I will bore you silly with some more when I get them off my phone and onto PC :D
It is good to get some feedback, the wife is biased and not to be trusted as even if they are dodo she will like them, which is nice of course :)
Always wanted to have a go at painting but not sure why I waited until I was 40.
-
Those paintings look amazing! I like the look of the one in the background - the one with the tree. I always wished I could paint...
-
I used to think that and thought I wouldn't be able to do it but caught an art show on late night TV called the joy of painting with Bob Ross, if you have sky type it in to the search function and check him out, mad as a box of frogs but makes it look simple.
-
Well here are some others

Lovely artwork Alf. You could do one of the Aurora Borealis, it would suit your style really well. ;)
-
Lovely colours Alf!
-
Thank you Alf - I particularly like the painting posted at 23.14 (the tree). :)
-
Thanks again :)
I like the northern lights pictures, thanks for the suggestion and I may attempt one of them soon.
I am stuck doing another Alaskan one for somebody, got the back ground really good (it is the same place as the other one I posted but fro ma different angle, the person didn't want the trees) but I am struggling to paint an iceberg flow, with the Ice floating quite close to the front of the canvas, it is looking beyond my talents at the moment and can not find any hints or tips on line or in the library.
Maybe a break from it will be for the best and go back after doing another couple of different types of paintings.

@sowitgrowit
Knitting seems to be making a big comeback and lots of younger woman are getting into it by all accounts, even my mam has started knitting again, making all kinds of funny things like building blocks for babies, knitted animals rather than the traditional bonnets and cardies
-
My daughter's step-daughter (is that step-granddaughter?) is 21 tomorrow, so I've been busy cake-making or is that hat making :D

Aww MoS, that is lovely!
-
That is amazing 8) Those anemones look real :D How did you make the stamens ?
-
The cake is wonderful, too nice to cut to eat!!
Pamela
-
That looks totally scrummy, glad its not in my house as I would have to have a huge slice. ::)
-
You can buy stamens (they come in many colours and shapes) cut them to the size you want and poke them into blobs of icing for the flower centres. Easy Peasy :)
-
That's amazing!
-
The colours are beautiful - what a beautiful present.

Eeerrrrrr you make it sound easy peasy ::) Wouldn't look like that if I tried it
Your step-granddaughter will be thrilled when she sees that cake. It is a work of art :D
-
I hope she likes it - thanks for being kind with your comments ;)
-
Lovely cake/hat Mum :) I'm sure she will be thrilled.

How unusual,when's the wedding?
-
That is beautiful, I hope all the other arrangements are going well. :)
-
Fantastic, a work of art
Pamela
-
Thanks for the comments. The wedding is in September.
-
Sowitgrowit, do you think your wife to be would be interested in making something similar for my wedding next July (but from vintage map paper). Ever since I have seen it I can't get it out if my head - it is fab!

I make Jewellery (when time allows), I started off working with seed beads and have some large pieces that incorporate Swarovski crystals moving onto working more with larger stones. This is a piece that I designed and made after finding the sterling silver focal pieces on an American website. It's made with semi precious stones, pearls and hill tribe silver. All in all over 100 hours worth of work. I occasionally get it out and wear it.

It's for my grandaughter's birthday, I hope she likes it :)
-
Brilliant,a beautiful cake :D A very lucky grand daughter
Pamela
-
Wow, truly lovely (and pink!) :D
-
I'me sure she'll love it. I know I would.
-
Love that cake so much mum!
You can adopt me if you like - I'm free to a good home!
-
It looks too good to eat....but I'm sure it's tasty. :)
-
wow that looks great, I'm sure she will love it :)
-
Lovely cake MoS!
Chaz that necklace is unbelievable! I bet its heavy? How on earth do you manage to wear it and stand up at the same time?? ;)
-
I bet she loved the cake Mum, it is a work of art. :)
-
love the cat its great
-
That's fabulous, Mum :D
-
Wow that cake is lovely bet your well pleased with it and so will the granddaughter love the cat with the ball of wool ..Can i ask how long you have been making cakes like that ..
-
Awesome Mum :D

I've been icing cakes since I made my wedding cake in 1969  Then it was all royal icing and piping stars and flowers everywhere, then we moved on to making flowers, that actually looked like flowers :nowink:
Now making models with fondant icing seems all the rage. The first one I tried was a penguin for Winterval, then a hat, now the cat - but it is very easy, compared to piping; it's like making things out of Plasticine. It looks impressive though :D
-
MOS you make it all sound so very easy!!!
Pamela
-
I never was any good with plasticine either!
I can make the cakes, but my hands are no longer steady enough to decorate nicely! :(
-
That's a shame Grannie :(
-
Yes, I have to cheat now! lol
I am making the cupcakes for my Nici's 40th. half of them will be mermaids on top from a little mould I got from USA, and the other half are rice paper toppers in black with text in silver or white saying Nici's 40th Birthday.
I know black sounds yuck, but the colour theme is Nici's favourite colours of black, silver and gold.
-
The rice paper toppers are soooo good, and easy, for cupcakes :D
-
Woohooooo! Finished Nici's 40th birthday 'card' at last!
Don't know why its coming out sideways though. It is upright in my file!
-
Beautiful - how big is it?
-
It is lovely Grannie - you must have put such a lot of work into completing it. :)
-
She is lovely Ann. I'd quite like to sew her for one of my neices :)
-
Thanks everyone. I started her in February, but with so many tiny beads, sometimes I had to have a week or 2 off! She's about 13" x 17". She is in a picture frame, then I stick a plain A4 card to the back with the verse and my sentiments in.
I was given a photocopy of the design, but it was missing 1 small bit, so I had to go onto Ebay and buy the whole chart!
-
I was given a photocopy of the design, but it was missing 1 small bit, so I had to go onto Ebay and buy the whole chart!
That was a nuisance. Looks fabulous. I love sewing with all the tiny beads. :)
-
That's truly beautiful Grannie :)
I don't have the patience for the small stitch work, so well done you ;)
-
I used to do embroidery, but sewing lots of little crosses is so much easier, especially as I used to do it on the train when I worked in London.
I started in 1990 when I got fed up with reading on the train and I got a needlework magazine with a free tiny kit on the front. I look back on my first efforts, I've still got some of the early magazines, and they look so childish!
I don't do bit things very often as I haven't as much patience now, I like to see things finished in a couple of days!
-
That's lovely Grannie,I find cross stitch very frustrating, but I will master it.Is it a surprise for Nici?
-
Just finished my latest project - at the last minute - they're leaving pressies for 2 friends whose leaving do i am going to tonight! ::)
The jute bags were found on ebay - a couple of pounds each. They're just big enough for carrying your lunch in! :D
-
This one is the original pattern from a magazine in the original colours - I just added the metallic thread and beads.
-
On this one I took the butterfly out of the original pattern, changed the colours and had a play with pretty buttons and things.
Bondaweb type stuff used to attach the picture to the bag at first then a running stitch around.
I really like them!
-

Oh yes Snowy. She knows I am stitching something, and has guessed its another mermaid, but she doesn't know which one it is! ;) :)
They are lovely DBG, what a thoughtful pressy! I have a lovely bag that Oliveview made for me, and its lined and very well made! I really like it and as it's so soft, I can fold it up and put it in my handbag!
-
DBG - what beautiful presents - I am sure that they will be well received. :)

and so do I - what a wonderful present they make :)
and no excuse for using a carrier bag when you have one of those ;)
-
DBG,they're lovely gifts, you could go in to business with them, probably not lucrative enough to give up work unfortunately though
Grannie,I'm sure she'll love it,when do you go to see her?
-
Lovely bags, how pretty :D
-
Thanks all! :D
I'm really chuffed with how these came out.
Will have to make one or two for myself when I've made the Christmas cards, another couple of birthday cards, bunting for Harley, Daisy and Ruby, the wedding stationary for Ben's cousins wedding next year...
...there's always something I NEED to be doing! ::)
-
DBG can I ask where you got the pattern from? I have been looking for a similar butterfly pattern for ages (ie one that isn't all 'filled in' and slightly Lacey looking)
-
Gorgeous bags DBG. I would be chuffed with them as well! :)
-

PM me and I can send you a copy :)
-
Shhh DBG, we musn't talk about sending people photocopies, it's breach of copyright, and we don't want to get John in trouble! :(
-
Quite right grannie- I will not be sending DBG a PM :nowink:
-
Oops of course I meant to say I'd send you my spare copy of the magazine :D
-
I tie my own fishing flies using various feathers, hair, wool, and synthetics. Counts as a craft in my book if there's interest i'll put up a picture.
Cheers
Aled
-
Yes please Aled - my father used to tie his own fishing flies and I loved watching him. If I remember correctly he spent more time on the flies than on the fishing. :D
-
when I was a country park ranger one of the other rangers when he was on desk duties used to tie his own flies, very interesting :)
I used to do things like this when it was my turn for being shut inside on desk duties :)
-
That is so beautiful joyfull! :)
-
It's a while since I have done any x-stitch let alone on 28 count but really must get around to doing some again :)
This one sums up my gardening :D
-
OK will see what i can do.
Was the ranger in question me joyfull as i used to do the same, at one time!
Cracking craftwork on here by many. There is something very theraputic in taking materials (i'm using the word in the widest possible sense, could be cooking ingredients, scrap metal, wool etc) and making something worthwhile.
Cheers
Aled
-
Both cross stitching are lovely Joyful. I have some kits queuing up, but they will have to wait for me to finish Sara Moon. I've been doing it for nearly 3 years..... nearly finished though.
-

not unless you used to work at Colwick park and had a different name ;)
-
No not me then, we had to do stints in the car park waiting for cars to arrive, so i'd set the tying kit up while waiting. On rainy days i tied a lot of flies! :D
Cheers
Aled

One of us always had to stay at the desk ready to answer questions and to sell fishing licenses or rent out boats on the trout lake (we also had a course fishing lake) and like you say wet days were very quiet so plenty of sewing, flies tied, books read etc :)
-
I have been working in these for a certain event in December

They're fab Willow :)
I never have time to cross stitch my cards - always seems to be too much else to do this time of year ::)
-
This square (unfinished when I took the piccy) one was made to use up scraps and I use it as a throw on a garden chair. Don't get much time for patchwork at the moment - too busy making dresses.
-
Lovely Willow....I recognise the snowman. It was one that I stitched for one of my grandchildren last year. :)
-

Wow that looks amazing!
Haven't really had a go at any proper patchwork. Would love to though. :)
-
Thanks for all your kind comments. I haven't done much cross stitch for ages but really enjoyed these. Not sure what to do with them now - I know most people won't appreciate a card or the work that's gone into them!
H :)
-
Fantastic work, catllar it makes my 9-patch quilt (in the making) look very amateurish ;)

I only give or send my XS cards to people I know will appreciate them. Some of the little designs (and those that my friend sends me) I make into decorations, either for the tree, or hang them on my garland that goes in the hallway. I have also made them into coasters for the children, they love those and they come out every year!
-
Cracking!
Aled

Don't put yourself down - you haven't seen this thing close up! I enjoyed planning it but loathed sewing it, could I get all the bits to fit properly? could I heck!
i think any crafter should be proud of their work and we all have to start somewhere. ;)
-
I got our my cross stitch the other day to make a wedding card, I had to give up, my flipping eyes would not let me sew  I have cataracts, I just could not get the right distance to see! I used to sew on really fine linen :( I have an appointment next month, so hopefully I will be in the system for an operation, I don´t know how bad the eyes have to be here before they operate.
Pamela
-
I resorted to a large magnifying glass clipped to my frame! Would that help you? :)

They should do them for you Pamela, and going on what my gran and mum have said having had their's done this year, you'll be thrilled with the result ;)

Eh - won't appreciate them? Then only send them to people who know you and will appreciate it. I've done cross-stitch in the past and know it takes ages to do a small one, so enjoy and send to real friends! 8)

I never have time to cross stitch my cards - always seems to be too much else to do this time of year ::)
The trick is to make them over the Christmas holiday and on the dark winter evenings thereafter. ;)
-

H :)
You could always photocopy them and use the copies on cards. That way it is still something hand crafted but not such a waste if they don't keep them. ;)
The talent on here are endless, loving the mermaid GA, the bags are beautiful DBG, I love the butterflies joyfull you must have so much patience. I always fancy doing patchwork catlar but have never done any since school and then it was just basic squares, yours is a really clever use of colours and patterns. I think mine would be just a mish mash. ::)
If you still do the flies Aled I have some pretty bantam cockerel feathers that might be of use to you or if anyone else can make use of them in any other craft let me know. :)
-

What an excellant idea :)
I as also a bit naughty at the weekend as I felt like cheering myself up and bought a cross stitch magazine - it was a penny short of £5  so many cute things in there though...
H :)
-
Ah - but what other pleasures could you get for a fiver that will still be useful months afterwards? Money well spent, I say. :)
-
Ah - but what other pleasures could you get for a fiver that will still be useful months afterwards? Money well spent, I say. :)
Yep. A fivers' worth of pick 'n' mix doesn't last more than an afternoon
And a cross stitch magazine has far less calories
Magazines are hideously expensive though aren't they? I've subscribed to WoCS so that works out much cheaper. But if you bought 2 or 3 magazines in one go that's the best part of £20!
-
Photocopying the cross stitch? Brilliant idea - how sensible. My SIL is an artist and he does that with big pieces - he photocopies them down and makes cards from them too. Sells loads like that!
-
Mmmmm, I've seen people do that too Catllar. Some lovely work people do!
Pleased to say Nici was overjoyed with her mermaid! :) :)
And this is the verse I put in it!
"Oh do you remember when you couldn't wait till you were 10.
Then after that you couldn't wait until 18 To celebrate.
Then 21 became your goal, all grown up, it lifts the soul.
Then after that you want to stop, "oh nearly 30, turn back the clock"
And then you reach the BIG 40 but, looking back gives you a glow.
Take the time, see how far you've come,
the things you've achieved, the things you've done.
Your family you hold most dear,
your SPECIAL friends that are always there.
So don't hold back the hands of time, CELEBRATE, it's turned out fine."
-
Simply beautiful Ann. ;)
-
Thank you, although you've seen it before! lol
-
Did you write that Ann - it's great! :)
Glad Nici had a good birthday.
-
Lovely Ann :)
-
It's beautiful Grannie! :)
-
No, didn't write it myself, I got it from one of the free verses websites, but can't remember which one now! lol, but it is Nici to a 'T'!!! lol

Does anyone here have any idea of a free knitting pattern site for Santa's? I want to knit some for the refuge sale in December. Our house WiFi is out of action, so doing a search on my mobile phone is not great!
Thanks in advance!!

Here are 2 of my 5 mock-up wedding invites for Ben's cousin.
Hoping that I can perhaps make something out of this craft. All 5 set pictures are in my gallery if you fancy seeing them under my 'Crafty projects' gallery.
Lovely button craft btw BQ ;) :D
-
They're lovely DBG :)
-
They are really lovely - you should be really pleased with how they are turning out and so should the bride and groom to be. :)
-
Sarah and Luke really loved them all and they have chosen a combination of the envelope style for day invites and the colours on the deep russet/brown ones for the evening invite and the same colours for the envelope one.
I will also make the name tags for place settings and the table map

Just come back from the NEC & the Hobbycrafts show, had a lovely day, spent a fair bit but mainly on presents for you know when. There was a fantastic Scandinavian stand that had beautiful papers & ideas. I've taken the stuff I bought upstairs with the website address,I'll put it on here tomorrow. Not much sewing stuff though loads of card making, stamping & scrapbooking.
-
A sample or 4 of my Yuletide cards - finally finished!! :D

Beautiful cards DBG. :D

I have been kidnapped lately by pinterest lol lots of beautiful ideas on there.
-
Just had to revive this post as I scrummaged in a drawer for a sleeveless jumper I knitted years ago for my OH when he worked in a pet shop. I thought it would be such a good idea to knit him one with a budgie (with additional embroidery) on the front and used some graph paper to make the design... but... I didn't know you had to have special knitting graph paper to do it. Hence, the top has a budgie on it so big that he looks like he is saying....I AM A PRETTY BOY AND DON'T YOU EVER FORGET IT!! :D
-
You know the rule GG - we need to see a pic of the budgie. :)
-
I have been kidnapped lately by pinterest lol lots of beautiful ideas on there.
Aww yuss!!!!

... but..but...but...the Mods will put me on the Norty step for frightening people!!?
-
I doubt that very much

As soon as I can get a pic on here, on your own head be it!!
-
I doubt that very much
Thank you MOS. ;)
-
Oh yes we need a pic hehe
-
Well, if I've done this right using Picture Manager, you can see me wearing my top! Laugh and weep!! :D :D :D
-
What is there to laugh & weep about,it looks lovely :)
-
My first thought was it is brilliant!!
Pamela
-
Me to - it looks just like one of my childhood budgies. :)
-
I had a blue budgie like that when I was 6 (wanted a puppy - all they would let me have ::) ).
It looks great - great work! :)
-
Wow that's fantastic and just how clever are you designing it ;)
-
Its a lovely budgie!
-
I just traced a picture onto graph paper, knitted it into the sleeveless top, then embroidered the extra bits on afterwards. Good job I decided not to do a woolly mammoth!!!! :D

Here are the Crimblmas stockings that I made with embroidered tops for the son and his fiancé.
Nice big ones.

Hannah :)
-
Thanks guys. :nowink:
I met up with a friend's daughter recently and she says she still has the stocking I made her when she was little and she still uses it every year and she is 40. So it is nice to know the work is appreciated and that they take on the memories of every year.
Will post pictures of the ring bearers cushion later in the year, after the wedding.
-
This is my latest work which has taken nearly 3 years. Just got to frame it now. Then start on the next in the queue!
-
That's lovely. It's really hard to sew on linen like that as well.
,
-
Awww she's beautiful! So delicate! :)
-
How lovely,is it cross stitch?
-
Thank you. :) :) Yes, it's cross stitch on evenweave. A bit trickier than working on aida, which is why it's taken so long. That and having to unpick mistakes occasionally. ::)
-
IT IS STUNNING!!! "A thing of beauty and a joy forever." ;)
-
The lady is beautiful, sewing on evenweave fabric is lovely. Once I get new glasses I will be back sewing.
Pamela
-
New glasses? I have to have my glasses and a large magnifying glass, not forgetting the mini spotlight!!!!!
-
I love stitching onto evenweave or linen - everything looks so much more delicate and pretty :)
-
Some of my old works of art from the 70's & 80's have come to light whilst clearing out my Mothers house. Croydon Airport where I worked for a year for a computer company, my dog "Ricky" and a painting of the Lake District - Can you tell which one is which?

Lovely pictures Cadalot, you are really talented. I'm no good at drawing either. That's why I like cross stitch, any idiot can do that! lol
BQ love the fields, but why is the one in the middle covered in snow and all the others are green and brown?  ;)
I bet Florence loves it! Well, you can see that. ;) ;)
-
Its a very pale brown lol it is a bit too pale BUT it was all i had in when the idea sprung into my head. Never was very patient LOL she doesnt mind. Maybe it will become the square that has the farm house on. Variety..... Its the spice of life.
-
Ah yes, I can it better now, it is a pale brown! lol
She looks like she is enjoying herself anyway! ;)

All the other wedding bits will be hand crafted as well :)
Edited to take out identifying info on Yorkie's advice (hadn't really noticed/thought)
-
That's lovely :)
You might want to consider removing the second photo, though, as it displays the real identity of you and your OH, as well as the details of your wedding!
-
You're right, hadn't really noticed/thought. I have artistically removed all such info now haha
-
They are beautiful :)
-
They are fabulous Rachel! :)
-
Thanks. It takes such a long time to do a lot of identical cards though - I don't know how you can do so many wedding ones Emma - I would do it again for my sister or best friend but that would be it haha.

I'm making 30 night and 30 day as we type! :D

Wow there is some seriously awesome crafty people on here.
I have knitted loads when my children were young. I also made some of their clothes . I have crochet bonnets helmets and shawls. I have dabbled in cross stitch which i liked and will do more of but my main craft i suppose is cakes. This was today's wedding cake.
-
That's beautiful Ma :)

Ma makes beautiful cakes!

RJR you will always be glad you did so much yourself. We did a lot too, making invitations, flowers and cake. Though the flowers were silk not hand made. We did matching ones for the cake. It was so rewarding and not just because of money saved, but we felt we had really contributed to the day.
I did my brother's wedding cake too as he was so impressed with mine.
But I like to make cards and have loads to try to sell to other ex-pats at car boot sales. They are all different though, in all sorts of styles, as I get bored doing similar things all the time. Also decorated shortbreads go down well here, but it has been a nightmare trying to find fine icing sugar as the coarse stuff they use here just doesn't work for icing, it's only good for dusting.
My OH helps to make cards, but he hasn't the patience and would rather just stick things on and add lots of coloured peeel offs. Yet he has taught himself to paint (he has always been artistic) and is doing commissions of people's pets. So far this year he has made enough to pay for next winter's wood.
This is his latest, though not a pet, he was hand reared by a friend of our's.

The card I made for our Bulgarian neighbours' 50th wedding anniversary, they also asked me to make decorated biscuits for their bash in the village hall. The card was in Bulgarian and English.

And Dave did a painting of a golden oriole for their golden anniversary. All cards (3) we have made and picture are pride of place in the living room.
-
I love the lion painting! Are the beautiful flowers on the card hand painted as well or is it a printed image you have used? All very good though and I can see why they are pride of place :)
-
Tosca, that lion is fabulous,I love lions. The cards & biscuits are lovely too. Glad you are able to sell some as well, keeps the lion from the door   I'm intrigued on the story of a hand raised lion, can you tell us more

I will pass your comment on the painting on to the boss. Even super critical he is pleased with it.
This card I used decoupage sheets on. It was very intricate though and only for special occasions as the time it takes is too long (And I get bored). I also put a vellum front on. People seem to like decoupage but i try to find simpler designs and jazz the card up some other way. I also use small images from my husband's paintings for cards, peel offs, ribbon, lace, textured stickers and papers, quilling, hand made paper flowers, beads, anything I can find really. I am planning on selling some at car boot sales this year and the money from them and anything else i can make, and eggs, will go into the taxes/bills pot.
Finding supplies is a challenge out here, good job I brought enough with me to keep me going for a while.
-

The lion is called Tejas, an Asiatic lion which featured in a series of evening programmes from Chester zoo in 2007, and was hand reared by his then keeper, and friend of our's, Alan Woodward, who is still involved with Tejas as he moves around Europe. Tejas even has his own facebook page, some people are obsessed!. It's all on google I think. I will be using a small image on some desperately needed man-cards, but the painting is large, I think too large for this house, Bonnie lab is not keen.
-
Ah yes,now you've said that I can see it is decoupage. My mum and nan make and sell their own cards as well - it makes sending them a card very tricky haha!
Can you not order supplies from online and get them delivered to where you are then? I know my mum does that anyway as most of the good supplies she likes are American where they take scrapbooking and card making to a whole new level! When I went over several years ago I had to take an empty suitcase just so I could fill it with things she had 'ordered' :nowink:
-
My Christmas present last year was an order from Craft Creations so stocked up on peeloffs and decoupage sheets (used to use a lot of wrapping paper rather than printed sheets in the UK) tape and foam pads. But generally the cost of having stuff sent out will be more than I will get back. Over here people will pay the equivelent of 80p for a card. My sister used to sell them for me when she had a shop years ago for more than double that!
Need to get creative!
-
Oh dear, yes with those profit margins it is more difficult :( I think £1.50- £2 is a usual price here :(
-
Amazing cake. I'll have a slice for me and I suppose a slice for hubby too ;)
-
Amazing crafts there tosca :)
Your hubby is a great painter too :)
I struggle with making male cards. Anything girly is simple.
-
lovley cake , did it take you long .
nice lion ,well every thing is lovley it just shows what a talented lot you all are .
chrissie b
-
Just catching up on here. Wow Tosca, that lion is beautiful. Your hubby is so talented!
I know what you mean about the decoupage sheets, some of them are so intricate arent they? They take ages to cut out and layer with foam pads. Also now over here, if anything is slightly thicker than a couple of sheets of paper, you have to put a large letter stamp on it, so it costs even more to post!
Lovely card though!
-
Thank you for the lovely comments everyone.

Christie the little flowers took a while as there was so many of them and had to wait for the layers of petals to dry before attaching another layer on the large rose then there is the dusting of each individual flower and the rose. All are dusted in a pearl shimmer dust and the centres of the little flowers and tips of the rose petals in a Royal blue. Time consuming but enjoyable.
-
you can see the hard work but the result is worth it , it will be a shame to cut it .

Tosca your lion is beautiful. Very talented artist.

What will you do with picture?
We were going to keep it, I think it is one of the best he has done. But we have a load of pictures still waiting to be placed and as it is quite big I think it will have to be sold. It will pay the council and car tax and insurance for a year (yes, it really is that cheap out here.) A couple of people are interested but I don't know if he is ready to give it up yet.

That takes me back, I might have a go at a couple for some baskets we found. I will wait for the next spell of bad weather.

Well I think I am too blinking crafty for my own good.
I have just finished an embroidered cushion for the page boy to carry the wedding rings on, 130 wedding favour/cake bags, 100 mini jars of assorted red jams, and 120 place settings.
Late nights and dark eyes have been the order of the days.
Will post piccies after the wedding as I am a little superstitious.

The wife wanted to give her niece a gold record of Billy Joel Uptown Girl when we found out how much they charged I got a 45 off ebay and sprayed it gold masking the label and got a brass plaque made, then bought some black card and a gold frame an Bobs you Uncle

Crumbs cadalot - your talents know no bounds. A brilliant pop bottle cloche and now this. Respect from GG! ;)

Wow! I am so glad my wedding is small as I am the one doing all the craftiness! Hadn't thought about a cushion though.... Do you normally have one in an ordinary church wedding? (No page boy, just best man). If so I had best get designing and sewing!

It was something I made and designed for my sister's wedding for my son to carry. He was pageboy and my sister wanted him to carry the ring. I had visions of him dropping the rings off the cushion so I attached it to a ribbon. My son remembered this so I got the job for his wedding. Don't think it is usual in many weddings, church or otherwise.

Phew! I keep discovering things that 'everyone knows' that you need :s or is 'traditional' lol
Its your day go with what you want.
-
Oh I will - I have refused lots of things lol. It's just thinking about all the different bits! I'm the first one in my family to get married for quite a while as I am the oldest in this 'generation' so not like I've got many other weddings to compare it to/base it on if you know what I mean?
-
We are also importing a lot of 'tradition' from other places too.
I mean where did the idea of wedding favours come from? it is party bags for grown ups. ::)
Just remember RJR it is your wedding; you stick to the wedding you want and ignore tradition, Make your own tradition.
I have no choice as it is my son's wedding not mine and I will just do my best to make sure it is the one they both want.
-
Quite agree about the wedding favours - I'm not bothering. We are using the money to buy people drinks instead :)
Anyway, I will stop diverting this thread now and post some of my crafty wedding decorations when I've finished them :)

This a picture of my WI's entry into a competition at the AGM. It was called A wAlk in the Woods & was judged on 3 crafts, unfortunately we didn't win. I helped with the planning & setting up the entry last Saturday. Oh & made some tiny quilted leaves that you probably can't see on the picture.

Should have got a prize for the idea. It's great. Congratulations :)
-
Thank you, it took some sorting with 6 women on the 'committee'.
-
that looks great a lot of different techniques in there well done.
chrissie b
-
That looks lovely Snowy. :D
-
Watching Kirstie last year working on a WI project with other women showed how difficult that can be! :D
It just takes one with a strong personality...
-
Or sometimes a very quiet but determined one, I felt a bit like a go between at times. Certainly an experience. It was lovely to see how it progresses from the set title & then to see everyone else's take on it.
-
Not sure it's creative but I made this this afternoon.... Fairly pleased with it, need more practice...

That's lovely WW . Would be much sought after with that pattern material. :nowink:
-
that looks good is it your first and yes you are crafty
chrissie b
-
Oooh WW, what lovely neat stitches. I can't even sew a straight line. And I love the material! :) :)
-
That's great :D
-
It is the first bag I have made, I bought the fabric before a while ago as I made a cushion of it as a Christmas present. I had to re-do one part as I got confused and the lining ended up the wrong way around, was a bit of a "doh" moment. lol...

Those moments happen when you are an experienced sewer too  I've had a seam on the outside of a dress before now

well im finally finished my ladies and framed them just needing some hangers that don't put holes in walls, I hate framing them its hard getting them straight they will have to do

This is the quilt I'm working on at the moment: HERE (http://www.fonsandporter.com/content_downloads/Beloved_Blooms.pdf)
Shocked at the prices of good quilt fabric but I went to my favourite shop and rummaged through their clearance fabrics and managed to find many similar colours and prints.
I enlarged the quilt from 9 centre blocks to 16 as it's a baby quilt for grandchild #2 expected in late summer, and rather than waste time on a crib quilt that fits only for a year or so, I make them larger so the child can use it for many years.
Quilt is all pieced together now and just started hand appliquing the flowers, vines and leaves around the border.
-
Wow! That's so clever and so beautiful.
-
That is beautiful - what a present for any grandchild. :)
-
That's lovely Trillium. I go to a place in Leicester for fabric, they do online orders. I would have thought they would do overseas. Try The Fabric Guild. Their prices are very reasonable compared to other shops etc, even show prices. The dearest fat quarter is about £ 2.75
-
Trillium, are you making it in the same Autumn colour shades, as the pattern, so it will be ok for boy or girl?
-
Beautiful quilt Trills :)
Vey jealous - can't wait to have a go at quilting, but it will be a more simple pattern than your beautiful design :)

Log cabin is a good one to start with Emma, just cut into strips, or strip quilting's another,I've got a pattern I can send you for that if you like.
-
I think my friend Jo's quilt was strips. I like hexagons myself :)
But thanks you Snowy :)
-
The one I started is a Crown quilt block ;)
-

But thanks you Snowy :)
Hexagons are for pieced patchwork, just choose a size of hexagon, cut same paper shapes out the finished size, cut material bigger & tack to the papers press before or after, then stitch together right sides together with an oversewn stitch. When all done remove tackings & papers & sew onto a cushion cover or put a border on & quilt.
-
Trillium, are you making it in the same Autumn colour shades, as the pattern, so it will be ok for boy or girl?
Yes, I'm doing similar colours to the picture shown. We don't know the sex yet so I make them gender neutral. That way they can pass them to their own kids in the future. Granny will likely have popped her clogs by then and won't be making more ;) :D
This is the one I did for first granddaughter in very similar colours. The backing was dark fabric with all sorts of bugs and frogs on it, really cute but not babyish: HERE (http://www.quiltmaker.com/patterns/details.html?idx=11403)
I did take a pic of the finished quilt but not sure where it went.
Anyone trying the hexagon quilts, I highly recommend you do a pillow size first to see if you can manage all the hand sewing. It's pretty tedious and I know too many people who quickly gave up on full sized quilts and the investment. Cathedral windows is another hand sewn quilt that takes determined commitment.
As for fabric, I prefer personal shopping so I can be sure the shades work together properly. Sometimes you find a print/colour you fall in love with but then can't find harmonious colours to work with it. For the current quilt, I found almost the same print for the appliqued leaves, but nothing for the rest of the quilt so had to put it back and find others. For the dark inner border I really wanted a mossy colour but despite the hundreds of bolts of green the shop had, none were in that shade (not fashionable at the moment). ::)
Once the baby quilt is done I'll be starting THIS ONE (http://www.fonsandporter.com/articles/Scraps_I_Couldn_t_Bear_to_Toss_scrap_quilts_fat_quarter_friendly_bear_claw_quilt_block_quilt) because I have so many scraps in boxes that I really need to use them up and have some shelf space :D The alternate name for this quilt pattern is bear claws.
-
Ahh, knew I'd find the link eventually. HERE (http://www.robertkaufman.com/quilting/quilts_patterns/connections/)
I'll be starting this for youngest son who plans to marry in the near future. They love blue so this is perfect. Not a novice quilt in case anyone wants to try it.
-
All of those quilts are lovely Trills, what a lucky family you have to receive one of those from you. I know what you mean about needing to see the fabric yourself, the only thing with that is you end up buying fabrics you didn't intend to
We've just come back from dinner at our sons & partner & here is what she made me for Mother's Day

Aren't they lovely. She's just getting into crafts & sewing having taught herself to knit a couple of years ago.
-
They are gorgeous! I really want to make a quilt - I love hand sewing but can't machine sew to save my life and so dismissed quilts for that reason. Is there a good quilt design/pattern you would recommend for a beginner?
-
You can get simple books to start you off or I bet there's loads on YouTube. Hexagons are a good starting place & then add the patchwork to a cushion cover or a bag. You can buy a metal stencil that gives you the material template & the paper piece template.
-

I wish I had the time though!! :D
I have a million projects (work, craft and garden) that I'm already behind with!! ::)

Me too by about 3 years

:D Actually, most of my quilting friends carry work bags around with them - pieces of handsewn quilt tops they can work on while they wait at doctor/dentist appts, sports with the kids, etc. Amazing how much you can accomplish in a half hour here and there. It's also relaxing at down-time at night rather than telly.
Snowdrops, those are really nice flowers you got. spray the tops with some sort of clear lacquer and you can keep them easily dusted over the years.
-
Beautiful quilt Trillium. I've just started quilting and love to sit in the evening with it.
-
Everyones' quilting except me :(
-
I am very tempted to give hexagon quilting a go... I still have my large cross stitch project on the go, an allotment through the summer and a wedding to craft for. Hmm... I don't think I have enough time to work any more :)

I'm exactly the same Rachel! I would love for someone to pay my current wage just to craft!
-
yes Trillium when we were in Greece I used to pop a small cross stitch in my bag to do if we had to go to the bank or any place official as it would take an age and a lot of rubber stamping going on

It does say something about officialdom, doesn't it?

well my girls are all framed and are on the wall up the stairs , hubby got me some Velcro hangers and they work well no holes in my walls

Here is the basket I made on the course a few weeks ago its a bit wonky

That is really nice ! :D

Your basket is lovely Ma'am. It reminds mr of my father who always used a basket like that for his shopping. :)
-
Very nice M C

I'm addicted to knitting socks, I can't sit still unless I knit but the family appreciate them.
-
Here is the basket I made on the course a few weeks ago its a bit wonky
It does not look wonky - it looks lovely. I can just imagine it with one of those covers over it. :)
-
I love the basket!
I have just started a hexagon quilting project - I blame this thread for giving me another project to start! I will post a photo in a few weeks once there is significant progress :)
-
thank you for the compliments. i took the photo from the best side :D. It works though.
-
I couldn't see any wonk. It looks really lovely. Well done you. :D
-
A lovely basket, is it for you or a gift for someone? A very lucky person if so. I use my old cookery basket for my hand tools around the garden & another similar at the plot.
-
I'll keep it its a bit too wonky to give away I like to use baskets myself.
-
I love my wicker basket, always feel really important when I carry it :D Mine was a bought one though. I've got one of those budgie cage plastic 'shower caps' sorry can't think of a better description to use as a cover, fits a treat.
-

lovely basket MC, I have a genuine 40's woven basket that I must dig out and make a cover for - it's tucked away in our spare room somewhere along with my sewing machine :).
I have just started loom knitting (like the old fashioned french knitting on a bobbin only bigger) and so far have made to cushion covers and a scarf and now half way through a poncho. I also plan to make some socks on one of the looms.
-
The wicker baskets are lovely - they are not wonky at all - a little unique and individual perhaps...
H :)
-
What you're saying is that they have 'character'. :D

What a lot of talented people we have access to in one place.

Not really crafty as I haven't made any of the items, but I have collected them & arranged them. Here are my Easter trees

Thank you Sarajane, just a few twigs with bits hanging from them that I collected over the years when I did displays in nurseries & preschools. I do twigs & baubles at Yule tide too.

What a nice thing to do.

I've spent most of the day in my new sewing room getting to the bottom of the pile of ironing whilst the weather is dodo. When I had finished I decided to have a go at reorganising the new shelves as I wasn't happy with how I had sorted them when I moved my things in. So here's a picture for you to see how they look & at the other end of the room the work top with my sewing machine in situ, & if you look up you can just see the lovely bunting my son's partner made for me the other week.
-
Very tidy, I'm impressed (fancy doing my house tomorrow in time for my aunt / uncle's visit on Tuesday ;) ?)
-

I probably need to make something after all the effort & reorganising of the house it has taken to get it. Shame it's gardening time
-
That's a lovely lot of bench space in your sewing room, you'll have room for an overlocker now! And so tidy, will it stay like that?
-
That's very nice, Snowy.
I have to share our spare room with a double bed for my sewing. Have to use the dining table for cutting out ::)
-
Yes, it would be lovely to have a dedicated sewing area, rather than bits here and bits there. That looks lovely Snowy :D
-
Thanks every one. It's only tidy because I've not made anything yet. Funny I was thinking about an over locker today, after watching the sewing bee last week.
-

I've got one and it is great, I love it. I understand completely when she fell in love with it immediately. It just seams and finishes things off in one go.
-
My machine does an over locker stitch & I think you can get a foot that cuts as well. When I used to make loads of garments when the children were small I considered getting one but couldn't afford it. Would have been great for pyjamas etc. when I look back I wonder how I ever slept with the amount of things I used to do. Practically all the children's & my clothes were made by me. I used to sew 6 nights a week.
-
just crocheted this for my tablet, I can feel a matching phone case and glasses case coming too.
-
That's very nice, you could sell them on Etsy :)
-
Thank you Snowy I sell a few things on my stall a couple of times in the summer.
-
A wedding card I made for a friend to give to her son and future daughter-in-law :)
Used my birthday stamping stuff. They're soooo pretty! I love them.
-
That's lovely & very special, well done :)
-
Ooooh, that's very pretty Emma, and with the matching envelope! :)
-
It's beautiful the colours are amazing.
-
Thankies! :)
I spent a fortune (literally) on my birthday and I have all the ink colours, 4 sets of flower stamps, several other stamps and have seen more that I can't really afford...
I showed my stitchin' girlies these cards and they bought them off me there and then!! I only took them to show and suddenly all the purses were coming out! :D
-
A neck warmer and pin I made for a family member last Christmas. I've just started to dabble with the lamp work glass beads, OH thinks I enjoy the creativity, but to be honest it's just fun to wield a blow torch!!!
-
How unusual, lucky family member :)
-
I love the wedding card - so colourful! The pin is also beautiful - so intricate and very clever! I tried a jewellery making course once.... I wasn't very successful! Well done to you both
-
Love the broach really special and unique.
-
Being recently in to jewellery making myself, that pin/brooch is amazing!! :)
-
We should set up a 'selling' thread nearer winterval for those who have surplus to sell to fellow crafters! I am pretty sure I could spend a lot of money with you lot!
-
No selling allowed on the forum though, would have to be swapsies :( :)
-
No selling allowed on the forum though, would have to be swapsies :( :)
Ah yes of course! Well I would be happy to swap green tinted, orange tinted for purple tinted paper for many of the things I have seen on here
-
oh yes a crafters swap shop would be good , stitching stuff can be pricy im sure some people would have left over threads , material kits , oviousley you may not require more crafty stuff you may want seeds or mags the skys the limit .

I have also started the order of service booklets. I thought a handcrafted wedding would be fun..... I am glad some of the crafts are being done by other people as well now as there is just no time! Lol
-
well done , when I got married I did little bags of suared almonds with a charm and a coin tied up in coloured net to match , also made our cake and decorated it , it was fun but by the wedding day felt abit strained there were lots of other stuff going on and I felt it fell to me so deligate so your freash for the big day .

I need to get back to making table numbers, table name cards etc soon for Ben's cousin's wedding in October :)

Runs great just sprayed with WD 40 going to start on my bride dress next week.
Got a pattern from ebay £2.50 too
-
Run it well to get rid of the wd40 before you do the wedding dress, particularly if it's a traditional white/cream silky material
-
Yes good idea Snowy its cream Damask curtain fabric.

You naughty boy
-
Lovely pottery Marg, particularly the dragon. :)
-
Thank you :) It is possibly the best thing I've ever made but it has along journey in front of it
I used to make lots of little things and sell them at craft fairs ,still got the old worn out kiln in the garage but now it is more of a social evening at the local pottery club. My method has changed and I do a lot of coiling now.
marg
-
They're brilliant marg - especially the dragon. :)
-
Clever you! I love it. :)

My OH, Babs, started taking some cupcakes into work for her fellow office workers, then she had a request to make 50 cupcakes for International Womens Day from one of her bosses, just to take into office.
Then got a phone call to make it 100, no problem.
Then got 2 more calls, and in the end we finished up making 200 in one day. Tiring, but well worth it.
-
They look scrummy :)
-
After all the cupcakes, that went down a treat she was asked by same boss if she could possibly make a 60th birthday cake for her Mother-in-Law who is a fanatical Rolling Stones fan.
So Babs made her this one, and apparently the lady would not allow anyone to cut into the guitar and she has kept it, and is now in a sealed box.
-
Lovely pottery Marg, particularly the dragon. :)
clever you, they are lovely
-
Now Babs is into sugarpaste sculpting, she can spend hours just sat there practising.
Luckily we have a good supplier who is just around the corner from where she works, so she can always keep stocked up. :)
-
Marg, that dragon is amazing. ;)
-
Oh wow, those cakes are wonderful, but the roses! Amazing! I tried making sp roses once, mmmmm, stick to the day job I think! ;)
-
Hi Grannie.
I was sat watching her and she makes it look so easy, I had a go and it's a case of never again, just can't do it.
This was the last cake she took into work, trouble is "I didn't get any, again" :( :(
-
Babs is very talented, may have to have a word with her about a cake :)
-
She actually does for relaxation.
She needs alot of that at the moment cos she's a H&S advisor at work and has just sat her NEBOSH exam.
She's had 4-6 weeks of constant studying at home aswell as attending her course and doing her own job at work, she's totally worn out and said that she needs to escape into her "cake world".
Don't mind as long as I get a taste of finished product. mind you i get to "lick out" the bowl after she's finished mixing. (Just like being a kid again)
They do say that men never grow-up. Too true. :D
-
This is what started it all off, cakes at Christmas for office staff. ;)
-
Hit the wrong button.
-
Those cakes and cupcakes are amazing :)
-
Thank you, will tell her.
Babs has always been very artistic, she also like drawing & painting too, but cakes are her favourite.
I can make the "boring" things like victoria sponge, lemon meringue, fruit crumbles, etc.
My thing at the minute is making different flavour soups and freezing them for later in the year.
Favourite so far is Apple & Parsnip soup, made using Bramley cooking apples.
-
Ooooh that roses cake looks like a big fluffy cushion! Babs is really talented. My hands are not steady enough for such recision work.
I too can make the basic cakes, but its the decorating that spoils it! lol
Love the little santas too!
-
Told her that they were ZZ top Santas, but without their guitars.
Love putting little comments on my photos, especially if I can see something that will probably bring a smile to someones face in this mad world of ours.
-
every one is so talented on here and some good ideas to be had .

Love those wish I could make something cool like that

Very pretty :D
-
thanks girls.... and one of my several blankets and cushions.
I love to crochet. I don't have to think about it and it grows so quickly and is so relaxing to do. Grandmas taught me the basics when I was only a little girl and there are so many ideas on gurgle. Unfortunately I cannot follow a pattern so most comes out of my head.
-
I'm the same one grandma taught me knitting one crochet and I can only follow basic pattern.
-
You made a luvly job of your scrunchies. I make flowers for decoration. They only take 20 mins or so with scrap wool. We were in a craft shop last weekend and similar ones were being sold for £4.00. Mine go to the charity shop.
-
I can do roses I give some to the ladies who make hats for the Christmas Shoe boxes. I also make berets to sell and 1940s snoods
-
I make lots of hats in the autumn but I'd like to see photos of your snoods MC..

Here i am wearing one

I'm shocked, I thought you were a Womble

Only on full moon nights

A friend makes cloth bags for charity - she charges £10 for simple ones and £15 for one's where more work was involved.
-
Simple like carrier bags with long handles.
-
I was happy to pay £10 for a simple carrier bag type cloth bag. I think you need to charge something similar to allow for time and materials.
-
Did I show you the bag that Oliveview made me? Actually not sure I have a photo of my one, but I do have another she made somewhere!
Ah yes, here it is!
-
They are very cheap on e-bay, bear in mind that buying from charity stalls means people are inclined to pay more.
If the fabric is snazzy, or Laura Ashley/Catherine Kidston type or you add appliqué you could charge a bit more

That's good I was thinking a fiver just plain easy to make with pretty fabric.
-
ive been asked to do a birthday cake just a sponge type with decoration so was in the libaury for ideas and the lady there told me of a new shop which was like having Christmas and birthday all at once so im off to see , its all cake and stuff so quite excited its called coffee and cake so im dragging the daughter along to see if she can catch the baking bug , I bought her some digital scales for her birthday in hope .
I love the chicken bag its lovley good business idea as people wont like paying for every carrier bag .

You'd love Frankie and Johnny's Cookshop in York!
-
There used to be a lovely cookshop in Covent Garden when I worked in London. Unfortunately its gone now, but I've spent loads of lunch hours and afternoon's off, wandering around in there. It had a basement too, so 2 floors of wandering!
Of course, now with the healthier eating, I only bake when we get visitors, which isn't often! :(
-
About 9 months after I started it I finished this off for my Sister/Niece

That is really lovely Hannah. :) What patience you have. Taking the time to stitch on evenweave is so worthwhile.

thats lovely, I have just started a sampler for my granddaughter :)

That is truly something to treasure :)

Truly beautiful,something to treasure
-
Awww that is lovely Hannah!
-
That sampler is beautiful Hannah :)
I love the historical samplers. Would be nice to think that in 100 years someone will look at our sewing and appreciate it like we appreciate things like ancient tapestries and such-like.
I'd love to be able to help restore old tapestries and things - I wonder how you get into a job like that ???
-
A super sampler well done
-
very nice I do like samplers , I had a lovley bee hive one and I gave it as a gift then lost the pattern I could get from ebay if I could remember the book number .

This is a sign that Stig, a mate carved out of oak, and I decorated with enamels and gold leaf. Stig is actually a stone mason but carved this copy of the original, which was rotting away. It was the last job on a total refurbishment of this old second world war, wooden ship. I worked as a signwriter for much of my working life and did the decorating work. The owner of the ship praised is to high heaven, saying that it was superior to the original. Praise indeed, we thought!

That's beautiful Mogman
-
You're too kind Madame! It was an honour to be allowed to do the job. You'll notice that there's a Royal crown at top and "Order of the Elephant" below. An extremely rare combination and the first time I've had the opportunity to paint either. I believe it's the only ship in the Danish Royal Navy to bear both.
-
This isn't on a par with what's above, and I'm generally not very creative, but this is my contribution.
I made an advent calendar for my OH the other year - Scandinavian fashion. Each envelope was handmade, decorated, had a clue in it, and he had 25 days of a treasure hunt for chocolates, bottles of beer & any small thing that would make him laugh. It took me 7.5 hours to make, and I could only work on it when he was asleep because he's a nosy beggar!
-
Great idea Surbie! Christmas is a biggie for the family here in Denmark and they often go way over the top. Your idea's a lovely one.
-
Love the advent calendar Surbie.
Mogman, what skill you have, looked very delicate.
-
Love the carving Mogman, your stonemason friend is very talented. Your trade of a sign writer is also a dying trade.
-
Its a great idea Surbie they look brilliant too.

Mogman - that is amazing. May I ask the meaning of the Order of the Elephant. :)

Sorry...not been around for the last few days. It's a Danish Order of Chivalry...bit like our Knights of the Garter in a way. Difficult to describe in a few sentences but if you're interested you can get a potted history via the link below.

Thank you Mogman - I will check that out.

So do I :D was doing it when I saw this.
These little Bulls were inspired (would I copy? :D) from the Bulls put on roofs in Peru. The houses are built gradually as finances are available and these go on when the proper roof is finally on. They bring good luck and fertility. One is mine and the other for friend I went with

They are wonderful theothermarg. Very talented!

Those Bulls look interesting marg, will they be able to go outside here or are they for indoors?

Very professional looking Mos and I bet far tastier than a bought cake.

It was a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling.... there was none left to bring home from his party, put it that way :D

Thanks They are unglazed terracotta earthenware so not too frost hardy but will be fine in the summer. was going to put them on G/H but will prob end up inside. Hopefully the fertility thing will happen not to mention the luck :D
marge
-
As long as it's garden fertility, I'd be wary of any other :D. Mind you could add some fun & I did say I wanted more fun in my life this year :D
-
Indeed! !

He He would be in for the fun but the fertility bit would be a miracle. offered to make son one for his new home extension but he declined, well it was after a trying day in charge of his 2 girls :D

-
It's a bikini top? :)
Love the apron! It's lovely! :)
I have treated myself to a new toy! Shouldn't do I know, but I have been a goodish girl for a while now! ;) ;)
It's a Silhouette Portrait Cutting Machine. Just trying to get used to it at the moment.
Gina gave me 2 cards that her next neighbour had made for her and Terry for Christmas. They are lovely! So I thought, right, die cutting machine or something defo needed!
Has anyone already got one? Would love to talk with someone with more experience than me! ;)
The cutting mat was so sticky that although I tried photo paper for my first attempt, it still stuck fast to the mat! However, looking on the Amazon reviews someone said that it is very sticky, so best to rub something like a towel or shirt over it to help get rid of the sticky a bit.
The other thing is, trying to get the cutting mat in the right place. Instructions said to line up with the left hand mark, but I've cut the edges off a couple of things so far!
Just trying a snowflake!
-
Oh... I bought a silhouette portrait nearly a year ago now. Used it loads for Christmas things. I used a tea towel to de stick my mat. This week I've been cutting some fabric for applique, may post some photos tomorrow.
Loads of ideas for it in pinterest!
Hannah :)
-
OOOoh, hi Hannah! That's wonderful!
Have only tried it so far with card, but I did get a little pack of vinyls with it too, so must find something for that!
Where do you line the cutting mat up? One review I saw on Amazon said that you are better lining it up with the right hand line, rather than the left, but I also found that if my design is near the top edge, the cutter starts to cut before it gets to the paper.
That's probably me, just getting used to where to place things! These are the ones Gina's neighbour made. Aren't they lovely?
-
The cards are lovely, you can see they are intricate and a lot of effort has been put into them.
These are the bits I have cut out of my silhouette and then blanket stitched appliqué on my sewing machine. The white fabric is 4½" x 4½" (cut with mat and ruler) the fabric was cut out on the machine, fairly small and intricate pieces for fabric and it gives a really accurate cut, more than I could do with a pair of scissors.
I'm a novice at sewing part though this having only done it once before but I'm still not too happy with the quality and on one bit for some reason my sewing machine decided to change stitch size mid way, which was very frustrating!
(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7305/16167608957_7ce3ab3011_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/qCFdSz)_MG_0326 (https://flic.kr/p/qCFdSz) by Willow_Warren (https://www.flickr.com/people/37724971@N03/), on Flickr
This is how I load my Silhouette up when using an A4 sheet of paper:
(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7368/16167334939_9129e6a49a_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/qCDPq8)_MG_0327 copy (https://flic.kr/p/qCDPq8) by Willow_Warren (https://www.flickr.com/people/37724971@N03/), on Flickr
I press the button the pink arrow is pointing to when loading paper using the mat.
When loading with vinyl press the button the blue arrow is pointing at.
I don't think the portrait machine has changed since I bought mine, but I know the bigger brother the Cameo has a different screen to load and upload the media.
Have fun with it, I think everyone has cut their mat at some point!
Hannah :)
-
Ooooh something else I've learnt! lol Thanks for that Hannah. Your hearts are lovely! I had a little look on youtube just now and found out how to use my own designs too. I did see somewhere that you could only use the Silhouette designs, but then there was a video showing how to trace your own! :D
Yes, the portrait I have is the same as yours. the card etc can only be fed in portrait, but if I wanted a landscape thingy, I can just rotate it round! ;)
When you use vinyl, do you still use the cutting mat? I read somewhere that you don't?
-
yeah, just rotate stuff in the software for landscape.
You are right, no need for the cutting mat for vinyl, I've only cut vinyl twice so I'm not expert!
Hannah :)
-
Ive said it before and I'll say it again some very talented and acomplished people on this here site xxx.

I want to make myself a 40's style wrap around apron - just got to dig out my sewing machine :)
-
Do you do re-enacting Joyfull
-
no but I love 40's and 50's stuff - the music, the vehicles and lots of household stuff from both the States and the UK (including my 50's English Rose kitchen units which are awaiting blasting and re-enamelling).
-
We go to various weekends and dress up.
-
Some of my friends live their lives wearing original 50's clothes and have their houses decorated and fitted out with 50's furniture etc
-
Joyful and Madame you might enjoy this pics as well as the article. A 96 year old Canadian woman put her house on the market and it hasn't been redecorated since the 60's. It's in pristine condition!

I have a friend with a kitchen in her cottage like that, Joyfull. Stainless steel top, I think, and red draw fronts.
They are very sought after !
-
My house is Victorian /Edwardian as much as possible
-
so far I have collected 18 base units (including 2 units with drawers in the base and a bucket tap), 2 cutlery trays, 9 wall units, 1 broom cupboard (rare), 1 hostess trolley(very very rare - have only seen 2 for sale in the 8+ years I have been collecting English Rose and I bought 1 of those), 2 floor corner units and 1 wall corner unit plus 1 wall unit that is 1.5 times the size of the others and 4 chairs. I am still on the look out for 6 small wall units (12 inches deep), a tray unit, a larder unit and a table. They all need restoring but to buy done up would cost an arm and a leg.
I haven't decided on the Formica colour I will have on mine (I prefer the Formica to the stainless steel work tops but the 50's yellow or red are the main colours I am erring towards.
-
Are all your units of the same colour scheme, Joyfull?
-
They are timeless aren't they :D
http://www.source-antiques.co.uk/english-rose-kitchens/

they need glass blasting and then enamelling - they will all be cream/ivory.

They'll be like new :D

They are gorgeous. I want...

especially when you think that they are 60 years old - all metal and not a hint of chipboard in sight :)

Now this is not me being crafty, this is the quilt my friend made me for my birthday. It is called Epping Forest and the photo doesn't do it justice. The colours are just so amazingly vibrant.
I was overwhelmed by the gift.
And the funny thing was, we went to the visitors centre at Epping Forest where we often take part in the organised events selling our wares and as we looked out across the forest we saw all the colours that she had used in the quilt. It was quite magical.
-
Wow... that's amazing. Must have taken ages to make !
-
How beautiful, & how lucky you are,you must be a good friend
-
We didn't quite have a stand up fight about her not taking money for the commission, so we left it that it would be my birthday present and I would give her a cheesecake. So she took away 2 cheesecakes for her freezer at the end of the evening yesterday.
I am truly blessed with all my friends.
-
that is a lovely quilt Mrs Bee, you really are so lucky to have been gifted such a piece of art.
-
This is a better photo of the quilt as this time Mr Bee got the flash to work. ::) ::)
It shows the colours better I hope. :D

When you enlarge it its fantastic, lot of work..

Goddess mother is such a lovely title to have. :D Special days samplers are really lovely too.
I made a golden wedding one for parents and stitched a wedding ring cushion for my son's wedding. I devised the pattern for that one myself. It was based on blackwork Tudor roses as DIL works at the Tower.
-
I have been working on and off on a blackwork picture of Henry the 8th and his 6 wives - I think the picture of the coloured version is in my craft album on here.
The patterns are all individual and I grouped them together myself. I've done the same with the blackwork versions :D
One day I'll finish all he projects that are for me!!

I am quite good at finishing projects for me as well as everyone else. :D

This is the card I received too.

I'm making favour bags for my friend as a wedding present
-
Daughters just got engaged and shes looking at all these kind of things just been to a wedding fare at the hilton it was so expencive 4.20 for a coffee when we got into the fare they had it for 1.80 glad i wasent paying i did the parking 6.00 but they gave her a card so she got it free so i said put it to the petrol .
like your favour bags i did net ones for mine .
chrissie b
-
They are very sweet MC. A lot of work for you methinks. She is lucky to have such a good friend in you.
Chrissie, if your daughter is looking around for wedding stuff, suggest she looks at the stuff that the well known Hobbies and craft chain of shops do. I got loads of things to make my son's wedding special from there at very good prices.
Some of the prices charged for the extras are ridiculous. I saved them hundreds for the wedding favours, macaron and place settings. And as for the rainbow cake, it would have cost them several thousand pounds. I did it for nupence.
-
I will have a look are the initials h c .can i say the name , i saw yoùr pics they were great , the wedding is a year off mayby 2 they havent decided where yet except abroad .
chrissie b
-
She has given me the fabric and lots of publicity. Im conducting the ceremony and she rums a local fb page.
-
Chrissie yes you can say Hobby Craft just so long as you dont own or work for the company :). I do find a lot of their stuff quite expensive and get most of my craft items via the internet.
-
Yes, some of their stuff can be expensive but they do a budget range of envelope boxes, favour boxes, cards and plain card too.
I did a lot of internet searching but ended up at Hobby craft. The packets of ribbon bows were a good price too as were the little ribbon roses.
-
I had a look last night , lots to think about im not committing myself till its decided and in black and white .we have a good cake decorating shop where we live and they do the same stuff but its expencive.
chrissie b

I finished these two embroideries quite some time ago.

... but today I cut mats and framed them.
It was harder than I thought and the mats are far from perfect but I'm pleased :D

Made a rose petal sachet for DIL to go with her birthday money.
-
Nice card did you design yourself .
chrissie b
-
Yep, I designed the card. I fiddled about with little bits of card and fabric when I was a kid and nothing much has changed except the grey hairs and creaking fingers. Still doing it, but need glasses to see what I am doing.
I also made her a lavender sachet and book mark. Didn't design those, and the lavender bag was a kit that DIL bought, started and got into a bit of a pickle with as the design was a little bit challenging. She threw it out while we were doing a de-clutter ready for the baby and I pocketed it and finished it for her.
Am making a few more but changing the colours and leaving out the embroidered lace border as I think that makes it a little fussy.
-
LOve the paper curled card :)
How do you stick the curls to the card without too much goo or visible adhesive?? ???
-
I put a blob of glue on a margarine lid and hold the curls with tweezers and dip the edge of the curled paper into the glue.
I then use the tweezers to position the curls. ;)
-
Remembered my mantra for this year was to make all my cards so made 1 each for 2 nephews & the last one is for our daughters birthday on Thursday.

Lovely cards, Snowy. Do they reflect the musical talents of the recipients ?
-
Lovely Snowy, just my cup of tea. :) I find making cards therapeutic, preferring the simpler designs like your's, but for car boot sales the blingier the better!
-
Love those Snowy. So much more special than a mass produced one.

Yes nephew 1 plays, piano, nephew 2 guitar & daughter plays guitar, I've had all on not to show her them when she came for dinner tonight :D
-
I've got loads of stuff for card making but have only ever done a few & then mainly sewn, but I found it very therapeutic I must say, although it took a lot of clearing up after,as I had to look in lots of boxes & drawers for all the bits
Sorry for got to say thank you for kind words :)
-
Great cards Snowy! :)
I'm having a bit of a card-makers block at the moment - just made a 40th anniversary card for my parents (not entirely happy with it) and struggling to make a 1yr old's card!!
-
I make all my own cards too Snowy. I know what you mean about the clearing up after though!
Because my craft stuff is now in the refurbed back of the garage. It is still cold out there, so the other week, I brought all my coloured card and paper in and put it on the dining room table to sort out in colours and thickness. Brian said a little while afterwards, that my 'stuff' was taking over.
What do you mean I asked him. Well, he said its all over the dining table now. I told him I was only sorting it out, then its going back in its right place. What a pl**ker!
I've just finished cross stitching a birthday card for Baylee. His birthday isn't until October, but I wanted to get it finished so I can concentrate on the grandkids Christmas cards in plenty of time, but I'm having a mental block there too at the moment.
Love your cards. People love it don't they when you do something that is personal to them? Like the one for baylee, its only a simple design, but its 2 little hurricane airplanes as he loves WWII aircraft!
-
Thanks both,I shall be making one for my friends birthday in a couple of weeks, not decided on what to do yet either.
-
Pigs or mice
-
Mice, unless you make more in pink, then piggies :D, rather cute either way

I just don't bother clearing up after myself!!
Much to Ben's chagrin! :D

Have you noticed GrannieAnnie that man stuff is never in the way or that the latest essential electrical gadget will have its place in the shed but never sees the light of day or the wood in the loft will one day become the shoe stand .

I don't have that problem with my craft nests, which is what Mr Bee calls them.
When ever he has a strop about my craft mess, I spend the day tidying and he gets no lunch and a bog standard, slung together supper. ::) ::)
That usually works.
I disappear off for a walk when he is in Victor Meldrew mode and having a moan about everyone and everything including me. The relief in the face when I walk through the door and the speed in which a coffee is made, 'to warm me up', is quite remarkable. :D :D ::)

Sounds as if you got that man well trained , i call it man management .

I do my best. ;) :D
Although he got me today and is in the hen house for the night!!

I do try to keep my craft 'mess' to the study, but it's when it creeps down to the dinning room table...
...and stays there for a fortnight!!

Only a fortnight? Mine seems to have been there (by the fire) since before Christmas! The scrabble to make a space if someone calls round......

They might not tell you that but I bet they will tell anyone else how lovely it is & how clever & talented you are. That's what my parents were like. My mum has changed in recent years & seems much more appreciative of my efforts.

Why not give encaustic art a go. You need to invest in a special little iron, some special card, and blocks of wax.
You heat the iron and melt some different coloured wax and spread it over the card moving the iron as you go. You get the most amazing effects. When the wax is dry give it a polish with a soft cloth.
There are DVDs to teach you how to get started and probably, although I haven't checked it out, on youtube.
You can make cards and pictures which look really stunning. I used to do it with the kids in my class. There work made a spectacular display. ;)
-
I have 2 new Cross stitches on the go.
Here's what I made for my god-daughter for her 5th birthday.
She hasn't had it yet because her mum and I haven't had a chance to ctach up with each other yet!!
I didn' frame it incidently - I just can't do as good a job :(

I didn't on this occasion as i said (I don't know if the framer steams the creases out or just stretches it well but I can't get it as perfect!
Wish I could! It cost me £50 to get her framed!! But MIss Bluebell is worth every penny - all my honary neieces and nephews are - but she's special, she's my fairy-goddess daughter :)
Thanks everyone for the lovely comments :)
On FB I got over 240 likes for her!!

It's a beautiful card Hannah :)
A lot of us crafters buy kits - it takes some of the pressure off ;)

A really pretty card :). I have never heard of a silhouette machine. It is lovely to see all the different things that the creative people on here produce.

Very good - and at a fraction of the cost compared to the over-priced amounts charged for CK, I'll bet

Just like the one the wife has been using since my old Mum got it for her years ago.

A cross stitch patchwork cushion I made for the little kits available in Hobbycraft that I have collected over the years.

Hat is lovely - and beautifully assembled!

Really pretty WW. That would be a good way of using up the cover kits on the magazines too. I still have some, although I do't buy the mags very often now.

Thanks everyone, the idea came from this blog which I found earlier in the year

Well, I can`t knit or sew very well, hopeless at cake decoration, greeting card creation is something I have never had but the most fleeting desire to do, flower arranging is not a forte, crochet is so passe, a potters wheel is just my way of making mud, which does not leave a great deal of scope for creative crafting one would think.
However, here are some things that could vaguely come under the heading.
First, two ceiling roses, After redecorating our bedroom a la Wm Morris, the two new ceiling roses I put up looked so clinically white I decided to "enhance" them.
-
Next is something I am very comfortable with, woodworking First an oak table I made for the kitchen, and then a woodworking joint that is part of a porch canopy I made for a cottage in the village........
-
A watercolour, which looks better in real life than this picture, honestly! Prague..............
-
PS on the ceiling rose pics, on one you can just see the top corner of a dark wood corner cabinet, that is one of my woodworking creations too........
-
Well done you, love the ceiling roses for a period style room ;)
-
For someone who doesn't think they are crafty, I would say you are pretty talented. That table is beautiful and I think the painting on those ceiling roses is very well done 8)
-
Thank you both, most kind.
-
I think you have a talent there Stree.
The ceiling roses are splendid and I love the water colour. Many people would pay good money to put that painting on their wall !
-
I did frame it, for a birthday present..........
-
That is splendid Stree!
-
Loved the ceiling rose and the picture i can knit and sew but carnt paint a pic like that well done well all have a talent in one direction or the other .
chrissie b
-
Some more woodworking, 2x bathroom cabinets and that bedroom wall cabinet, plus some fitted robes in the bedroom. Plus the decorating if that comes under the craft heading......
Unfortunately one craft yet to master is photography.......I think the exposure time is set for too long, will have to get the instructions out and take these pics again and replace them.
You should get the idea though..............
-
They are all very professional looking bits of furniture Stree 8) My woodworking skills just about extend to compost bins, so it counts as crafty to me :)
I did buy a picture frame for putting a flower embroidery in yesterday. I find it easier to get the frame and size the piece accordingly, than the other way round. Just got to think up a design now and get going ::)
-
I link embroidering flower picture.
I'm working on this Jacobean leaf picture at the moment.

That`s pretty.

This is a picture I embroidered from a photograph

A Tudor theme running through your embroideries?

Yes, I love Jacobean embroidary and the house is an NT property and I made it as a gift.
But I do other things

I love the Kreinik patterns, but the thread tangles SO badly!
Haven't sewn since 'festive day' - too busy with coursework :(
Course soon over though ;)

I sew every day keeps me sane the site has a range of things to do just came across it by chance.

I've just started doing cross-stitch again using books by Jo Verso but want to know how to stop getting little knots in my thread. I get rid of them by putting my needle into the loop and pulling one of the strands but it is a real nuisance.

I use a thread conditioner. I'll find you a link.

It's great stuff. I'd not be without it now :)

I've been plodding on with an embroidery piece, but its slow going. Partly because it is fiddly stuff and partly because I am not a patient person and have to be in the mood for it ::)
Anyway, it is a garden scene that is sort of realistic, but also with a bit of artistic license to give a nice result in the frame it is eventually going in.
The main features go in - wisteria hanging over a daphne and flowering cherry shrub
(http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m198/suec_02/IMG_1697_zpsdqbusxeu.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/suec_02/media/IMG_1697_zpsdqbusxeu.jpg.html)
Then they are completed and some of the smaller plants go in. I still have to put the leaves on the forget-me-nots.

Hi all,
Think this is my first post in this thread; our house is filled with craft related paraphernalia as my girlfriend loves to quilt, block print etc.
She is also learning to knit after we bought the first copy of a knitting magazine (you know the 99p introduction with a couple of needles and a couple of balls of wool). However, I seem to have outstripped here here and am knitting a bit more voraciously. That being said I have still only made two simple scarfs (normal stitches) and a big pouffe-esque pillow. I would like to learn some more techniques (I am only just learning how to purl but it doesn't look right!). What would you recommend to improve my skills and knowledge? I think that I would like to be able to knit some socks...
Incidentally my girlfriend hs just started to stockpile dressmaking bits and pieces along with some fabric for the summer break (she's training to be a teacher) so any good ideas on cheap bits she might need would be welcome. :D
Any advice or info would be appreciated - I'm spending some time on youtube learning how to purl. I know that sounds stupid as it's a simple process but it just doesn't seem right so I keep re-starting my knit! Her grandfather has Alzheimer's/Dementia so we will also be knitting a patchwork blanket for him with different textures - these patches would be ideal to learn new knits.
-
Hi asherweef if your not happy with what you knitted its no harm to pull it out , i tryed many years ago to show my daughter how to knit squares for a blanket i had to stop for the sake of my own sanity , i had to cut the stitched from the needle as she got tighter and tighter as she knitted, i suggested a different hobby shes good at sketching and liked to do caractures.

I'm not very creative but I enjoy crafting, which is why I like cross stitch, tells you exactly what to do with so free styling!

Hi Asherweef - Good for you learning to knit. YouTube is a great way to find out how to knit but sometimes the people demonstrating can go a little too fast. One good way would be to go to your local library and you should find that they will have a wide range of knitting books - many aimed at the complete beginner. Up to date ones have lots of diagrams and simple explanations. Knitty Gritty - for the absolute beginner by Aneeta Patel for instance is very good. We have a 'Knit and Natter' at our local library and some knitting wool shops have them too. You could make inquiries and I am sure if you pop along to one someone there should be able to help.

Thanks Kate - I have considered Knitty Gritty. Any good?
I'm currently working my way through my first sock :)
-
Hi Asherweef - it is a really good book. One of our beginner ladies has used it and has found it very helpful - easy to understand and plenty of pictures. I can highly recommend it. I made myself a pair of socks but the youngest daughter decided they would be of more use to her! I am on my second pair at the moment and I find it very relaxing just going round and round. I like to use four needles as I can't get my head around using a circular with a 'magic loop'. Good luck with your socks hope they fit when you have done :D

Ive finished my cruise pic did it on my holls last year which was a cruise !ive got a frame i enjoyed doing it .

-
I'm currently doing some cross-stitch but want to know how to gently wash and dry it before being framed.
-
I just hand wash mine in warm soapy water and rinse pull them back into shape if needed and hang out to dry but i press them just before compleatly dry so any creases come out easilyits just the way i do it .
What have you been sewing .
chrissie b
-
Thanks Chrissie - just the way I thought. Earlier this year I finished two hangers for the fireplace depicting the Twelve Days of "Festive Time" so got back into the mood for it. I've done two more that will be framed. One is for the guest bedroom door and one for the bathroom door. Currently, I'm doing another one as a "festive" present for my grand niece's bedroom door of all the things she loves which includes food, fish, dandelions, a swing with a robin on top, our cats, a musical dancing clown, a ball, a kite and a big red heart that reads "I love my mum and dad." At the top I have a rainbow and will sew two bluebirds (one on either side) but not sure whether to connect them with a ribbon or something, or maybe not. I use Jo Verso's books which are a joy to use, and love the way she portrays things so well which you can adjust to what you want. Thanks for your help.

-
That is a delightful and charming piece, New shoot. Where are you going to hang it ?
-
Where are you going to hang it ?
Not sure yet. It is a frame you can hang or stand, so it has pride of place on the mantle piece at the moment.
I've done a couple of others before but given them as gifts. Its nice to have one to keep :D
-
That's such a lovely piece of work. Well done.
-
Thank you all for all the kind words and congratulations :D
I'm building myself up for a summer flower one now to while away the winter evenings. This may take some time
-
It's lovely to see the darker canvas rather than the far more usual cream / white. Looks a bit more vintage :D
-
I agree with Yorkie - it is stunning! It takes a lot more time to do than most people think and it's also how to organise and place things so they look right. With my cross-stitch I draw items on graph paper, cut them out, then use Post-It glue to arrange them on my graph master plan. As I go along, more ideas come into my head which I want to add. With my latest one I've added a little kite and used back-stitch for the string which I sewed where I felt it looked right rather than drawing it on my plan. I'm on with the border now then I'll see if I can add anything else I need. Hope the attachment comes out ok.

Lovley work every one .

VERY lovely!!!

Did you have a pattern for your pic or just made it up as you sewed

I used Jo Verso's book for the individual items then placed each one where I thought it would look best, but also made things up as I went along.

Its very nice .

Bet you can ;) It's pretty easy to do these flowers. I'm no great crafter, but its all just french knots and basic stitches.
Good to hear from you btw :D
-
My summer border piece is done :D I used some flowers that I had patterns for and made some up myself. Its on the same natural linen fabric I used before.

This is it hanging with the spring garden one.

I have another of the smaller frames so am hatching a plan for a piece based on the corner of a herbalists garden. It would mean I would have to think up most of it myself, but I've been through my herb book choosing colours and thinking about stitches and I think I can do it
Time will tell, but it could keep me occupied for the next few weeks if the weather stays so dreary and the real gardening can't get done
-
That is lovely. I particularly like the white dasies.
-
Just lovely :)
-
Both beautiful embroideries.
-
Wow, the flowers are so identifiable - wonderful :)

Here are a few things I've made recently,
This first one was my first 'proper' cross stitch I made as a housewarming gift for my sister

I also made her this for Christmas, I'd made one for me but it's put away now before I took a picture
Here it is closed

They look great im deffanatly getting more crafty for next Christmas trouble is i think of things too late but im making up a lost im going to get some clear baubles and put names on them in glitter for the family .
chrissie b
-
Yes Chrissie I often think of things too late. The tree bunting I made 2or 3 years ago for my daughter in law & sister & then started knitting more trees after Christmas but forgot about them until too late the Christmas before last, so they've been a long time in the making lol !. I put pictures up on Facebook & 4 friends have enquired if I'm making them to sell, so I've started knitting more.
I've just made this this afternoon for our little granddaughter.
(http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t371/snowdrops3/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/3617B44B-F4A5-4072-AA02-B0FA435E908B_zpsiigor3qv.jpg) (http://s1056.photobucket.com/user/snowdrops3/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/3617B44B-F4A5-4072-AA02-B0FA435E908B_zpsiigor3qv.jpg.html)

I'm not surprised. That tree bunting is lovely :D
Your granddaughter is going to love the bunny as well :)
-
They all look lovely Snowy! You are clever, I love the tree box!
-
Thanks both, friends who received the bunting, loved it as did my sister when she got the box,she had bunting a couple of years ago when I made the originals
-
That's all wonderful Snowy - really lovely!
-
Thank you Yorkie, keeps me out of mischief :D
-
I would think also great way of getting all the little left over bits used up, ive got a load of bits of thread i keep saying i will do a big pic with them ,ive seen on a cruise we were on a tree made of splodges of mouve and different purples and i would like to do that at sometime .
Chrissie b

-
Missed this one of my granddaughterstuff hat. She loved it so much I ended up making her best friends one too.
-
Great hats juliec
-
Oh juliec - that's gorgeous! Would you mind emailing me the pattern as my great-niece loves hats.
-
Hi goose girl. I have pm'do you. Course I can scan and send you the pattern. The pattern says 250grms but in reality after making 8 I know know that for an average teenage/woman you need 100grms of double knit of with an aran type wool larger needles and still 100grams. Send memail your details and I can send you the pattern as it was from a free pattern site so no problems with copyright etc. Thanks Juliec. X
-
It's for a three-year old child so the one you did for your grand-daughter sho8uld fit. Cheers!
-
just use smaller needles, for adults and aran/chunky wool I use 5 and 6 needles and reduce the amount of rows and for smaller children 4 and 5 needles.
Happy knitting.
Juliec
-
At long last I have finished my cross-stitch sampler for my great-niece and here it is. Just need to get it professionally framed then job's done!

Just made this for our little granddaughter’s 2nd birthday on Wednesday, she had a rainbow themed party yesterday.
Sorry no idea why it’s upside down on here, hasn’t done that on another forum !
-
Do these count? My first dabblings with engraving slate led me to messing about making some plant markers.
-
They’re lovely erikaz, such neat lettering
-
Thank you. Trouble is they've become a bit of an obsession now. However, they have on more than one occasion prevented the slaughter of a 'lost' fruit tree during the winter clearances!
-
Ive got aran cardi on the go and some sheep knitted a jumper for hubby to start as well as my cross stitch , just got back into my knitting after a long time .
chrissie b

Just finished this temari patchwork & cut out the pieces for a 2nd one in readiness for showing my sewing group on Saturday as I am demonstrating making them in April’s meeting

One of the WI's I belong to, have just entered things into the South of England Show. One entry was a miniature shop which had to be all knitted. The Rules are stipulated regarding size, appearance etc.
Whilst not crafty myself, I go to the Craft Club and make the tea (that's a craft !) So I was able to watch the ladies knit, the wall covering, carpet, little tiny toys, children looking in the window etc etc. I could not see anything but talent, and it got awarded 'Highly Commended'. Sadly our other entries weren't rewarded, but the skill of other WI is extreme. Well pleased. Congrats to all who took part (even the tea lady ) Mrs Bouquet
-
The thing with the shows is there are only so many places to be had and some talented people have to without .
the making of a good cupper is a true art when we go out and about we have coffee because i carnt drink what some people call tea , the daughter and i went fora cuppa and cake in a place called newbiggen on sea melanies i think it was called and its the best cupper ive ever had in a cafe , loose leaf ringtons tea breakfast i think it was wonderful .
chrissie b
-
All the entries the WI made were on show yesterday evening, along with the judges comments. Oh, said one lady, who organises the crafts, Its not sour grapes, but our entries were much better than the others, and they hadn't followed the rules, etc etc etc. Whilst I admire all their talent, I kept very quiet, because, as you say, there are only X amount of prizes, and if you can't take it - don't enter. So much for the caring, sharing WI ideals. :D Mrs Bouquet
-
Im thinking i might make a coursage for my sons wedding for the wrist as i dont want to put pin holes in my new frock, ive seen an elasticated pearl braclet so am going to use that to start .
chrissie b
-
I had one for my wrist when my Daughter got married. I cam from the wrist down into a point across the back of my hand all made in the brides flowers and colours. So much better than pins. It was admired because of being a little bit different. Mrs B
-
Sounds nice , ive had a look around there are some stunners , last wedding we went to i attached my flower to my bag .
chrissie b

I’m so glad there is a craft thread on here, such lovely things folk have made! I love to make things, at the moment I am making my own soap. It is very rustic looking no-nonsense soap that lathers up nicely and does what it’s supposed to do.
This batch smells of lavender and rosewood and the dark bits are dried rosemary.
-
Well done - puts a whole new meaning to the saying "wash your Mouth out" Mrs Bouquet
-
That soap sounds lovely
-
Last week, at craft club, started to make Christmas Wreathes. Oak, holly and poinsettia leaves cut out of felt.
I have been sewing the veins up each leaf. Just started on the poinsettia, and after doing four, thought too
laborious, so today, I have painted the lines, with a red twinkly glue pen :D Mrs Bouquet
-
the wreaths sound good best to get ahead it comes round all too quick im thinking of doing something recycled for mine we will see i change my mind so many times.
chrissie b
-
I knew I had spelt wreaths wrong ! Mrs B
-
hi all just back from holls to find my new chart called geisha in gold the charts enormous bit bigger than i was expecting.
chrissie b
-
Can you do anything about that, can it be reduced or something ? Mrs Bouquet
-
The pattern is on 6 a4 sheets of paper which is good in a way , you dont have to use the whole thing at once .
its a lovley geisha looking forward to starting it but have one to finish this one and and do some of the butterfly window which has been going on for ages , i did manage to finissh my holiday sewing , a big nosed dog and a black work lady with flowers , im interested in sashiko which is a japanease embroidery .

WI Craft Club starts again this afternoon, after our Christmas Break. Don't know what it will be until I get there. Are you making or doing any craft at the moment ? Mrs Bouquet
-
Yes Mrs B, I’ve just made 3 felt baubles in preparation for sewing club in March that I’m doing the dem for. I want to take them to Saturday’s meeting to ‘show & tell ‘. On Saturday we are making a wreath(we’ve made it before but some wanted to do it again). I wanted to make it in Easter fabrics but haven’t found any as yet eek. So I think I’ll make it in Christmas fabric again & give it as a gift.
-
I don't know whether you'd class it as crafty, but I'm refurbishing an old (1950s) Ercol wooden framed armchair. My winter project for when I can't garden :D
I've taken all the old covers, webbing and horsehair wadding off of it. Stripped the frame back to bare wood, it was black varnish, spent hours sanding, so that now it is a light oak colour. I'd hoped to get the wood back to light beech, like modern Ercol, but it was made with darker wood, so that wasn't possible. I've been building it back up, I've redone the webbing, wadding and wrapping to modern fire-safe standards. Now just the new cushions to be covered. Fabric below...
I'll post a pic when it is finished ;)
-
Mum, I bet that’ll be lovely when finished
-
Mum, is there anything you can't do :D :D :D :D Ercol is beautiful furniture, we had it when we first married in dark wood. How I wished I had kept it.
I like the fabric, it has (to my eye) got a retro look, and I look forward to seeing the finished chair. It'll be worth a small fortune. Good Luck, Mrs Bouquet
-
Here are the photos of the felt baubles I’ve made in preparation for my March sewing group that I’m demonstrating. The green ones are as the instructions & the others are with my additions. They’re reall6 easy to make.
Hope they come out alright, they’re all the right way up to me on the thumbnail that comes up as I add them!
-
Pretties :)
-
Love them, How do I make them please, Mrs Bouquet
-
Love them, How do I make them please, Mrs Bouquet
When I’ve written the instructions I’ll pm you them
-
that is really kind, many thanks, didn't mean to put you to a lot of trouble.
-
No trouble at all, I’ll be writing them to present to my sewing group in March any way, I took it from a book but as is usual you can find an easier way of doing it lol
-

Thought I'd better add this before I forgot again lol.
-
That’s lovely, a great job, did you go to classes?
-
No classes, taught myself from re-upholstery books from the library, being a practical person helps - but I've always thought you can learn any and everything from a good manual....
although unfortunately that doesn't seem to work with PCs and new mobile phones  where I end up asking my grandchildren how to do things ::)
-
That looks great, well done. I used to have all Ercol back in the day, how I wish I had kept it !
I am not very good at doing craft from books, I need a teacher there with me. Mrs Bouquet
-
Hello, new person here. I adore most crafts and especially like embroidery just now and am getting into lino printing. I bought a sewing machine last year but am a bit afraid of it still!
I have an instagram if anyone is interested - www.instagram.com/greentreecrafts
I do local markets when i have the time, though this year i am a new allotment owner so i am spreading my time thinly!
-
Welcome Amy.
Looking forward to seeing your craft work, but we do prefer our community to post their pictures on our forums rather than give links to other sites.
My sewing machine is nearly 50 years old but I love it still. What type have you bought ?
-
I saw some lovely decoupage the other day. The lady had done it on bottles, jars, little boxes, shells etc.
I have looked on google because I fancy to try. The lady told me she painted her things with silk emulsion, but google said chalkboard paint. Do you know if silk emulsion is OK. thanks Mrs Bouquet
-
I wove these when I wasn't able to garden.

I must find something to do through the winter. I am not very clever with crafts, and get impatient with myself if I cannot do it. I read at night, and that's not productive, neither is doing jigsaws although it is satisfying when finished. Arthritis can get painful, so although I like adult colouring sometimes I cannot do too much. I don't have a sewing machine. There must be something I can try my hand at - any suggestions or ideas please. Mrs Bouquet
-
Lacquering old brass??? I used to do cross-stitch and used a lot of patterns from Jo Verso's books. Owing to Covid I'm staying in lock-down so thought I'd do one for my dear friend as a festive present. I've already got her some fingerless gloves as she does a lot of walking but this is going to be a sampler with the words “F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Fight for you. Respect you. Include you. Encourage you. Need you. Deserve you. Stand by you.” Just got to measure out the amount of fabric I need that will fit into one of my empty photo frames, choose the border, type of letter to use, motifs etc, cut them out and prit-stick them onto my master plan then begin. Anyone else making presents for others?
-
What a lovely idea and I like the sentiment behind it. A 'photo of the finished sampler will be nice to see :)Mrs Bouquet
-
My Mother had a crystal hanging in her bedroom window. She believed when it twinkled it uplift the spirit. I have had it in a box for a couple of years. 6 weeks ago I got some 3mm fishing line and threadled it onto the top. I have hung it in a very sunny place and it moves in the breezes and twinkles away. I look at it and say "Hallo Mum" Mrs Bouquet

Any patchwork quilters here? I've just finished my 1st one :) Not a bad effort and have learned a lot along the way.
-
A closer look at 1 panel
-
Any patchwork quilters here?
Mot me, but that is a lovely quilt. I think it is really pretty and so neat as well. If that is your first go, you should be very proud of it :)
-
Lovely mum, well done. I’ve done a bit but nothing major
-
My 2nd Christmas quilt, this one is for Stig :D
-
Love the quilt, lucky stig.
My most recent crafting was some knitted Christmas decorations for eldest granddaughter who is in the navy and deployed until March 22.
-
That is beautiful, Mum. Great colours for Christmas.
-
Finally finished my one
ooops it's sideways ::)
-
Very nice, is it to go on your bed or as a wall hanging?
-
It's covering the ugly brown sofa
Mollycat has already decided that it is the comfiest place to curl up ::)
-
Even sideways it is very pretty :)
-
Yesterday, while in the roof collecting the Christmas decs, I found all the wool which was part of a tapestry I bought for Mrs Growster many years ago, and we had given up for lost! The original tapestry on a home made - ahem - frame is still half-finished, and I wanted to do a Clint Eastwood and finish it!
The trouble is, that I've bought her a new tapestry for the big day, so can't tell her the good news until afterwards!
My new project is refurbishing an electric guitar, plus three other ones, but as the kit is a present, I can't start until Christmas Day...
-
Are you bored yet? Another quilt finished today :D
This one is for my Granddaughter, who is off to Uni in a couple of weeks. Go girl go!!
-
It wouldn't let me ad both pics so another one here
-
Very nice Mum, she’s a lucky girl & im sure she’ll treasure it & snuggle up to it & think of your love when she feels a bit homesick.
-
That's lovely mum :D
-
The things that are home-made either for decoration, made with love to make you happy, or something to curl up with are so precious. No matter how young or old you are they will always be treasured and remembered. My great-niece made me a bead bracelet on an elasticated band for my birthday using a kit. I love it!
-
I got a crochet pattern for a three-quarter length sleeved cardigan and the wool to go with it, but am afraid my crochet days are over and there's no way I can manage it. Is it possible to alter the pattern so I can knit it instead?
-
I have never been able to crochet, I have even had a tutor sit behind me and guide my hands, as soon as she moved away I lost it again. I can knit for England, machine (I'm wearing a 35 year old jumper that I knitted on my machine today). I can do cable, Arran and Fairisle.
-
I used to crochet those fine cotton mats and also mats where you made individual motifs then joined them together but, sadly, I can't do it now. I managed to find a free cardigan pattern on-line so am now hand knitting it. I used to knit Aran, Fair Isle and other intricate patterns but am now opting for the easier version. It does have a pattern with different coloured wools but I'm just doing stripes.
