Title: Re: plant 0n house wall
Post by: wneva on October 02, 2017, 07:18
Hi everyone

I have a pyracantha growing on the side of the house.  Yesterday it started to fall off the wall!  Does it need wires or pegs to cling to?  or should it grow with its own with suckers or whatever?  Or should I cut it back to the point where it's holding on?

Your thoughts would be welcome.

IMO anything growing on the house walls is a liability in the long run !

You don't like wall plants I take it, doubles.   :nowink:

Pyracantha doesn't attach itself to a wall or wires/trellis in any way, so any strong gusts can move it about. How high up the wall was it growing? Perhaps it was too tall to support itself? or too many branches growing away from the wall so the weight pulled it forward/down?

If you want it to stay at the height it was you will have to wire the wall and tie it in, plus I'd cut back some of the branches leaning forward IYSWIM
