worms with whiskers ??
« on: April 16, 2007, 20:33 »
was digging over a small patch this weekend and i came across several worm like creatures that looked like they had been chopped in half..... with whiskers at one end

they are approx 40mm - 60mm or 1 1/2" - 2 1/2" long and are the same diameter of a regular earthworm with the whiskers at a blunted end.

being a noob to this gardening crack, I appear to be getting very intimate with my soil recently,  at first i did think they were chopped worms, now im sure they're not, maybe a type of worm i've never encountered before... dunno tbh

when gently squeezed they ooze liquid from the end

any idea what they are, im going to feel stupid if they are infact chopped worms :tongue2:

I wished i'd taken a picture of them now

ok, sorry for the rather misleading description

but im now quite sure these are leatherjackets.

was idly thumbing through a book looking for a herb that my mum gave to me, and low and behold the picture of the leatherjacket was on the page opposite.

OT how engrossing is this gardening ??? nearly ALL of my free time at the moment is revolved around seeds and planting stuff...... or reading about how to do it

thats the fellow

wasnt sure whether i was doing the right thing by killing them.....better safe than sorry i thought

anyways thanks for your replies
