Title: what do you do?
Post by: sarah* on July 17, 2006, 22:04
Hi everyone...
I wondered what you all have on the ground in your runs?
We have had our chickens for 4 months and when the ground gets wet with there being no more grass...its like a sty and wondered what everyone puts on the ground if anything -

We keep them in a run which is about 8 by 10 ft and let them out in to half the garden when I'm home from work but a few months ago when we had a lot of rain it was awful and very damp for them and I'm starting to think about the winter...if you can believe it!!
does anyone put bark down?
thanks

We've used straw, occasionally OH has just left them to the elements, but once when we lived in Essex, OH put a tarpaulin over the top of the run, it keeps some of the rain out, also keeps out too much sunshine, and at the moment, it would also keep poo that may contain avian fly from dropping out of the sky!!!
