Hi,  We've moved to France in August 09 and have 5 hens & 1 cockerel, all is going smoothly until today when we noticed 2 of our hens have lost the feathers under their wings (only on one side) and are red raw, it looks like the skin is seeping. All the others are fine no feather loss, all 6 have very good appetites, they roam our 1 acre garden from sun up to sun down and I clean the coop every day. We had them on straw until Sunday them I changed them over to dust free wood shavings. Can anybody help with determing what could be the problem ??

hi deb  it may be that they are moulting or possible being bullied , there are anti pecking sprays out there u can try that may help if they are being plucked out by other birds .

have u checked them for lice ??

If it's "under" their wings it sounds like they could be overgrooming themselves, I'd definately check for lice.
