First proper year on allotment
« on: July 07, 2009, 18:04 »
Hi.  I come on regularly and read threads but dont post very often.

We got our allotment late last autumn and worked hard to get it into shape.   I am so pleased with how its going.

We are currently harvesting strawberries, broad beans, red currants, japanese turnips, sugar beet, cabbages, cauliflower, spring onions, lettuce, small carrots and the odd raspberry.

The peas, white currants, courgettes and raspberries are almost ready.  Unfortunately the runner beans dont seem to be doing very much other than grow rather leggy - although they are still alive so we are leaving them there to see if they will do anything.

I am not too sure about our tomato plants though.  They are outdoor ones and seem to be healthy with some flowers on but I havent done anything with them and am just letting them get on with it.  They are still quite small but seem healthy enough so I suppose that I will just leave well alone.

We also have rhubarb in (first year so not picking it), jerusalem artichokes, carrots, pumpkins, sorrell, sage, onions and leeks.  I did put a couple of rows of parsnips in but pulled them all up when I was weeding as I was expecting them to look like carrots  ???

We are going to put some cabbage, kale and purple sprouting in next month.

It has so been worth all that hard work in getting the plot from an overgrown jungle into a vegetable oasis   :)
I always find that work gets in the way of life.

Wow you have lots growing!  Well done.  It is so satisfying isn't it?  I have had my plot for just about a year now and I love it.

Blimey! You have been busy!

I'm on my second year as aplot holder ..... and I'm beginning to enjoy it more now I'm seeing the results of some hard graft.

Don't you find the taste soooooo much better??

Had my plot since October (so a similar time to yourself), I've now got to the point where  it's all built, dug and planted and over the last two weeks, all I've needed to do is potter around and of course weed and water. Your growing lots of crops there and well done for all the hard work you've had to put in.  ;)
