I've got a soft spot for ferns and was wondering if anybody has experience with Japanese painted fern Athyrium niponicum

Love them, have quite a few in my gardens. They're not too fond of a lot of sun, so give them part shade, and some regular watering until you're sure they're well established, then they'll look after themselves and keep those gorgeous bold colours. I help out a bit with some compost each spring too. Slugs don't bother them much if at all.

Oooooooooo I have one of these! Absolutely lovely, seems to be tough as old boots too, the dog um... let's just say it's survived many drenchings... :wink:
