Hello all.  Has anyone got an automatic coop pophole opener?  If so, what type is it and do they work well?

Thanks

hi
Yes we have one - its excellent. called a VSb (battery operated) from "Wells Poultry Housing"
We bought a timer with it so we cn be flexible with opening times.
Simple to fit. Seems OK but we have only had for a week.We have fitted ours just above our vertically opening door, so no major alterations needed. They are expensive at around £75 -but worth it if you a lie in at the weekends!
Let me know if you need any info -can try and post a photo for you

How dark does it have to be before the sensor makes the gate close?  Do the birds have ample time to get in?  Is the timer worth the extra cash?  Is yours externally or internally mounted?  Did you also buy the aluminium door?

Thanks

Hi - we also have one (the axt-electronics one) and it works fine! It opens a little before sunrise on a clear morning (the chickens are often already queing up to get out) and closes about 10-20mins after the chickens decide to go to bed. On a cloudy day it opens a little later by about 10 mins - light dependent of course!

Update: 20 mins before 'official' sunrise time this beautiful morning!

Thanks for replies.  Have ordered the VSB one without timer and external fitting.  I know they are pricey but at least I don't have to fret about being late for work in the morning or getting back to them if I have to stay over.

Cheers, Foxy.  Have not heard back from company yet, i.e. if it has been posted, but am looking forward to getting it.

Will let you know how it goes.

Just to add, since getting my helpful new opener, I notices on the PCB inside it says 'axt-electroniks.de'.  Obviously the VB and axt are the same thing for people like me who browse around for different types.

Thanks for the replies.
