Not allowed chucks
« on: January 24, 2007, 16:37 »
Well thank you for the advice re: keeping chucks but I am not allowed to keep them on my plot (which I should get at the end of this week or beginning of next),  Apparently cos there is no mains water and because of an increase in the rat population in areas which have allowed livestock I am not allowed any.  So that is pants.

Oh thats a shame I have kept them for about 15 years, many of us have them and we do try and keep the rat population down we all work
together.
Although our parish now insists that newcomers get permission, they also arrange regular visits fom the RSPCA which is great as it puts the hens welfare 1st

The site has just been tidied up so no one is on there yet, so can't use discrimination.  Will keep a look out for suitable land close by.

That's a shame, we can't have livestock on our plots either, do you have enough room to keep them at home in the garden? If you have room for a largish shed then you could probably fit a few chooks in.

Can I just say the water excuse is poor.  I have to take fresh water to my birds on the allotment because the water is turned off for winter.  This hasn't been a problem.  Secondly, surely if you are careful with food provision, i.e. not all over the floor and outside the pen, plus put traps down, won't they bend a bit to allow you some?

Sounds like Avian Flu scare to me!

Hope you find somewhere soon.

I live in a Housing Association property and they do not allow livestock.

I seem to get on with the allotment woman so if I can prove myself and have a nice plot then she may give in in time but then she would be setting a precedent for all and sundry to keep chucks so I suppose I can see her point.

I need a small holding with no neighbours - heaven, oh and for hubby to earn enough so I can just potter all day and not have to go to work.
