I am have recently taken over an allotment and have restored some old hen houses and am in the process of adding a run. I'm at a point where I want to start arranging some birds but don't know where to start. I was hoping to have about half a dozen to start mainly just for eggs. I have only read books and don't have any experience in keeping hens so any advice is welcome. What breed should I be looking at? and where is the best place to get them from?

I thought I was being nice, and of course truthful.

Why do you prefer welsummer's? and where is the best place to get them?

you are being nice lolo. and very truthful pebble  .xx.

i got my birds years ago from a  local breeder  paying 10p an egg i had half a dozen buff orpington bantams given for 50 p each and i raised them with thier help i just carried on with this    as for now i can suggest you look for local breeders and farms . also check the live stock auctions , the library may have contacts for poultry keepers as will the local council register of licensed breeders  and good luck with your birds
