My rhubarb is just shrivelled leaves and not much else too. It had stalks well into September but I followed the advise on this forum and stopped picking them. Have four rhubarb plants so have lots of rhubarb in my freezer!

Unless the OH pleads for me to bring some home, my rhubarb stays where it is unused as a food. I do use it to make an effective insect repellent, but I detest the stuff; November or not.

Maybe he's talking about the new fruiting autumn rhubarb, mine started going mushy August time, there is now not a single stalk on any of the five varieties that I have!

He does like the rest of us have some strange ideas at times, using peat is one of them!

Thanks for all the replies. It seems, then, that you could eat rhubarb right up to the time it stops producing, provided you don't over pick, particularly at the end of the season. Is that a good summary?

As for Monty, I don't have anything against him really, it's just that when he starts talking about veg, I have the distinct feeling that he's speaking as someone who's just read up on the subject or been told what to say, rather then someone who's 'been there, done that and made the mistakes'.

Rhubarb...! It went ages ago, so where he gets the stuff from I don't know! Perhaps the film was made months ago...

He was right about sowing late carrots last year though!
