Our neighbours have Sevilla orange trees, if their crops fail the streets in the town are lined with the trees.  Imake marmalade, with whisky, I just put a glug into the pan at the end of cooking.  I HATE marmalade, so does Jim, I either give it away or it goes to the refuge to sell.   I get told my marmalade is delicious, I would not know

Tosca, I fancy a trip to Bulgaria, I will fetch you some oranges!!   :tongue2:

I love marm but I don't make it as I don't grow oranges. If I make something it has to be from something I've grown. That's what it's all about for me  :)

I'm not such a purist as you CQ.

And I might find myself divorced if i didn't make marmalade for the OH's breakfast toast.

Does it count if I pick the Sevilles myself. 'Cos I do, I pick them up from Spitalfields market. ::)

And Growster, my shelves always have onion marmalade on them all year round. Can't beat onion marmalade with almost anything meat or cheesey. :D

Growster, I will put some very upmarket sausages in the pan to go with it, or perhaps that really nice mature cheddar  with the walnut bread.

I make several types of onion marmalade and I am working on a real one at the moment. ;)

DBG you make the marmalade and then put in 1 or 2 teaspoons of whisky to the jar before pouring in the marmalade. I always go for 2 teaspoons for a 12oz jar or 3 if it is a 1lb jar.

Fill the jar almost to the top, give the contents of thejar a little stir with a teaspoon and it disperses fine.

Although when I am in a rush I find that pouring the boiling hot marmalade on top seems to do the trick without stirring.  You get a real rush of whisky smell from the jar.  ;)

I have a bottle of red waiting too, Mr Growster.

Marmalade is so horrible I don't know how people eat it.  Give me a raspberry jelly any day.

I am with you Trillium!
I add the slug of whisky to the pan, once it is finished cooking.

We go to Nerja, Spain every winter and always bring back some oranges picked from the streets where they grow in profusion, also bring back a bottle of Sobrano brandy, then make the" marmalade de Nerja" con brandy when we get home!!! Reminds me of sunny spain every time I have some for breakfast.
