In this months November Jobs it says you can now plant garlic.
I had a good garlic crop this year can I use one of the bulbs from this for planting?
I also thought about using a black sheet with holes cut in it for each clove would this be OK to do
Thanks in advance

Yep. Best way. Choose the biggest plumpest cloves from your stock. That way you will stand a chance of getting bigger bulbs next year.

Yes, now's a good time seeing as it's still relatively mild, provided it's an autumn planting overwintering variety. The idea is to get roots n shoots before the frosts really set in. Don't know about the plastic though pal, it's not something I've ever done.

Garlic grows well through holes in weed control fabric, less weeding for you and the soil will warm up earlier in Spring, which can mean larger bulbs ;)

Great Thanks for replies
I will get some in this weekend :D

Sorry to jump in here but can I ask, having just planted out my garlic, and netted it, when is it safe to remove the net?
-
You can remove the net once they've grown roots, give one a gentle pull and if you feel resistance then you know they've rooted.

Me jumping in too, sorry.
My onions and garlic are under enviromesh - couldn't find the netting :nowink:
Is there any advantage in leaving them covered to keep off any snow, or are they better uncovered once they have roots.
Thanks
Elaine

I've always grown them uncovered, I don't think the enviromesh would help - if anything wouldn't it stop them drying after any rain? Just thinking out loud there
-
Thanks mumofstig, I will remove the mesh as soon as they have some roots.

Yep Mum is right, the enviromesh will just help keep the moisture in the soil longer, great in the summer over carrots, bad in the winter over garlic :)

Thanks for that Mumofstig.
Will do.
