Squashes on muck heap- Pictures
« on: June 07, 2008, 21:18 »
Squashes are growing well even though the leaves on the plants dont look very good :!:  This is the first time I have grown them here, should I put something under the squashes or just leave them  :?: . I havent fed them yet so perhaps that is why the leaves arent very green but thought the manure would be enough. Any advice welcome.

They are Butternut and Spaghetti squashes
There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

They look great! How long ago did you plant them?

They were planted about the 2nd wk of May but they were quite big plants then. Had to keep them covered in fleece but I still think the cold got to the leaves. Wont plant them so early next year!

They look great! My butternut plants are much smaller but they also caught a bit of frost and a few leaves have turned yellow. Having said that, last year my squashes were a lot slower to get going than the courgettes or pumpkins but they caught up eventually. Re feeding - would you actually need to feed them if you're growing them on the muck heap  :?:

Yay!! I just popped some butternut seeds in amongst my sweetcorn yesterday ... hoping they'll grow from seed as I haven't had a chance to start them in pots.
