Go for it!
I took mine on after much deliberation a year earlier than I expected, thinking that the waiting list was so
Long. I am still digging mine but love it and so glad I said yes.
Great learning experience

Hi everyone thank you so much for taking the time to reply, your comments have given me food for thought  ::)
The house move isn't set in stone, neither I guess is the location, and a lot can happen...
The first choice location is in another borough even though its slightly closer so depending how it works i may not be able to put my name down anyway. And a half plot does sound more manageable.. Can you guess where I'm going with this?!  I will take a drive past it later to have a peek & view it properly next week but I think I'm sold  :D
Just need to convince hubby it's a good idea!

I moved around a lot with my occupation over the decades and created & left a number of gardens/allotments.
I always wanted to have a plum, damson, & greengage but never did because it takes three years to establish and bear a worthwhile crop. On three occasions I stayed for over ten years but kept using the excuse "one day we will move on", or "we could move next year"
My advice to you is "Go for it"  use your NOW.  My three score years and ten are within days, I wasted too much time with caution. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Now my plot is far too windy & exposed.

Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of knowing nothing than opening it and proving it.

I know I will most likely have to move jobs in the next 2 years and probably move house sooner. My plot new this year is near my work. I've made a good start and prehaps 1/2 has stuff growing in it. Another 1/4 is covered.

Provided your realistic - have some spare time and don't plan to clear it all this year then you will still get a good amount of produce just cover the areas you won't have time to work on.

I have planted some soft fruit and will be taking them all with me when I go!
