Vectar/Nectar rose tomatoes ?
« on: August 24, 2016, 17:44 »
A big thanks for whoever put the Vectar/Nectar Rose tomatoes in the Veg Seed Pass-the-parcel 2016. Well hope I labelled them correctly. Not sure I wrote down the name correctly.
Had our first one today, what a great tasting tomato.
The others are yet to ripen, but they are doing great.
Grew them outside in a potato bag in Verve compost and are doing very well.

A big thank you from me too. I grew around 10 different varieties but these were one of my favourites.

Thanks mumofstig.
Will be saving some seeds form them.

So far a great year for tomatoes, must be the warm temps.
My regulars I grow; Marmande, Gardeners Delight, Roma, Garden Pearl, Golden Sunrise, Red cherry, Tigrella and San Marzano are just great this year, all from my saved seed.

Have enjoyed the F1 Sweet and Neat Yellow/Red, a seed packet in the 'Veg Seed Pass-the-parcel 2016', bit shame as being an F1 will be no point saving the seed.

But did also pick out one other form the 'Veg Seed Pass-the-parcel 2016' called Stonors, its grown well, but much just a regular taste, look and size.
Not sure I will bother with that one again, though it is always nice to try.
Here are the Stonors;

These Nectar Rose are great croppers.
Picked a load midweek and these this morning.
Still loads growing or waiting to ripen.

Nectar rose coming to end now.
Took a couple down to my local allotment and did a taste test.
Got a straight 10/10 and loads of begs for seeds.

Had a picking last evening, but still a dozen or so to ripen soon.
Already saved some seeds, water in the jar method, ready for next year.
From my allotment visit, will have to save some more :)

Got some nice tomatoes again this year despite a hailstorm from hell early in the season! I grew San Marzano, Andine Cornu , Cherry Roma , Olivetti Roma, C de boeuf and Marmande . The San marzano's are amazing most come in at about 150 g each.  Then the Olivetti Roma are a lovely little bush plum tom really good will defo grow again. Of the beef tom while both are good the CdB take the prize with some lovely big toms up to 500g and so sweet make great caprese salad. I would not grow the Andine Cornu again there is just something about them that did not sit right with me about them but there were some huge tomatoes from the plants, think it is just the shape but we got loads so tomato soup was popular from them. The cherry Roma's were great again and so many tomatoes from each plant we eat them as an apero super sweet and crisp tomatoes quite addictive. Still lovely and sunny here just now but it has to end sometime soon so have to look to next year now :)

The seed I saved from last years crop of Nectar Rose has germinated fine and the plants look healthy.
Sowed them in my greenhouse on Apr5 and are 1/2 to 3/4 inch high so far.
So happy that I will be getting another crop as we really enjoyed these tomatoes.

Can I have some seeds of them please, if any of you will have a few to spare at the end of the season?

My saved seeds of Nectar Rose is producing a great crop, so the saved seeds worked a treat.
Will be saving the seed each year now.
This is such a good cropper and a very tasty tomato.
Have picked plenty already and there are still loads ripening nicely now.
I grew them all outside in pots. They do need some staking and are very healthy plants.
