Don't forget to look here, to see if it is in your area

There are some big red dots on that map  :(

Blight again on my plot Taunton area Its just so frustrating , cut all the tops of the infected area and as its in my own back garden  ,iwill cover the ground with straw and old screwed up news paper and have a bit of a burn ~This often saves the tubers in the ground .
This is the first age that has ever paid much attention to the future which is ironic since we may not have one !(Arthur c Clarke)

I lost all my backyard toms to blight. First time in all the years (12) I've been here.
Took pre emptive action at the allotment, sprayed with Bordeaux mix, OK so far but I'm not counting my tomatoes till they're ripe.

Hi
My potatoes plant tops are showing signs of blight  >:(,
I read in country small holding that if you cut the tops off leave the spuds in the ground the blight spores will die off?,its a shame if we cannot eat the spuds with all the time and effort spent growing them >:(

You just leave them below ground for the skins to harden, so that after the 2 weeks you can lift and eat them. Don't store any that look a bit soft, and check them regularly for signs of blight in storage.

Spores on the soil surface are killed mainly by ultra violet light. If you dig the potatoes immediately the spores will get on them and develop rot in store. If you want a few to eat now by all means dig them as you are not storing them for more than a day or two.

Good morning fellow gardners
I have removed and burned the potato tops, hope i have saved whats grown below .
We have been surrounded by potato fields, there is a commercial grower very close, all their potatoes have now been harvested.

Blight on my plot at CF39 8RE.

Blightwatch is not a lot of use if you don't have a commercial potato grower in your area as it seems that only their reports are used to issue warnings
Any day above ground is a good day.
