Onions - Senshyu (White), Electric, (Red).

Garlic - Music.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Onions: Radar, Electric (red), Snowball

Garlic: Tuscany Wight, Chesnok Wight, Elephant

Reason: They are the contents of DT Brown's collections:

I hope you have better sucess than I with Snowball, tried them a few years ago and they hardly grew at all. Wasn't the growing conditions as the other varieties in the same bed were fine.

Elephant garlic isn't really garlic, as you probably know. It's closer relative is the leek and the mild flavour reflects that.

I'm still very much at the throw it in and hope stage of vegatable gardening, so it may or may not work...

As for the elephant garlic, I'm planning to chop it into salads, roast it whole to go with a dinner, and roast in in foil with olive oil to spread onto bread as a garlic paste. Again, ideas I've read that may or may not succeed  ;)

Radar onion sets for autumn planting as I like them because they seem to grow very well for me

Garlic wise I will be growing Solent Wight, Purple Wight and Chesnok. Again these always do well for me. I try a new one each year though and last year I did Lautrec Wight and Purple Moldovan, which were good

Shallot wise I'm growing Jermor. I wanted to get some banana shallots too but Wilko had sold out

Solent White garlic - because it's being stocked by the allotment shop!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Very good it is too. You can plant it in spring as well

I'm not keen on Electric as it's only red on the outside and not all the way through, which I thought was rather disappointing  :)

How good has silvermoon been?

I like the idea of a white onion and have seen some ofr sale, but wondered how they crop.

Almost all last year`s autumn sets went to seed so this time I`m trying Di Savona onion seed which were sown in trays today.

I`ve always planted shallots in February, but can they be planted in the autumn?
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

Traditionally shallots were planted on the shortest day and harvested on the longest.

So, yes, you can plant them late autumn onwards as long as the ground isn't frozen solid  :nowink:

I will have to have a good look online. Does anyone know of some good deals at the moment?
