Title: Today's Bargain?
Post by: Elaine G on November 09, 2018, 17:56
My grandson needed new sweatshirts for school - one destroyed, one lost this week!
So I had a look on the Asda website.
A single sweatshirt is £2.
Or, if you prefer, you can buy a double pack for £8

No guesses which I ordered. Gave me a laugh anyway!

Lol, how silly, in Asda once I was buying a pack of 4 tins of chopped tomatoes, for  something like £2 , then at the end of the aisle there was a stand that said something like 1 pack £2 or 3 packs £3, I had to ask a sales assistant if I was reading it correctly. I filled the trolley

At Tesco tonight a damaged advent calendar was for sale on the bargain shelf at the reduced price of £1.50 while just down the aisle was a full shelf of pristine ones for £1 each......

What a bargain, its made me laugh as well  :D

I bought a top in asda a week or so ago, for £10 to wear around the house, it didn't fit anywhere.  Took it back 3 days later, but had lost the receipt.  Got £5 back as they are now reduced  ::)  Mrs Bouquet

Fortunately we are all different mrs bouquet.
I find asda tops fit very well, and am wearing a shirt now under my more expensive jumper!

The school T shirts and sweatshirts fit my grandsons much better than the posh logo ones from the school uniform shop so they have one of those for the school photo  Fortunately they can wear either.

I normally don't have a problem with Asda sizing, but this particular one just wasn't right - maybe that's why they were reduced  :D
It is brilliant for people who have to buy childrens school clothes, especially when they grow so quickly.  I remember having to start in my school coat in September at least 2 sizes to big, and nearly dragging on the floor,  Oh, you'll grow into it.    :(  Mrs Bouquet

There do seem to be some real anomalies around with pricing! We found toothpaste at £2.25  tube, or two tubes for £5.... hmmmmmmm

Quite often it seems larger packs offer lesser value, rather than the other way around and so I always try to check the cost per gm or kg to see which to buy. You'd be amazed at the variation in the price of a single, own-brand toilet roll in Asda

I'm also wary of the pricing of items especially if it's a BOGOF or two for the price of one, and if it's food I always check the expiry dates to make sure I don't have to use them all within a few days.

I once tried to help an old dear who seemed to be dithering over the decision about which shampoo to buy.
I pointed out that, weirdly, the larger size of the brand she seemed to want was actually marked up at a lower price than the one she eventually picked up.
"Thank you dear," she said, "but I only want a small bottle."

My head is often in a permanent spin calculating which offers actually are the best value. but these days I keep any advice strictly to myself!  ::)
