Title: Ducks not laying
Post by: Ivan on January 10, 2017, 21:13
Hi, I have kept 10 Indian Runners since (day old) March 2015.
From June 2015 to Aug 2016 they layed every day!!  They all went through their first full moult Aug/Sept 16 and I have had no eggs since. I understand they won't lay whilst moulting, but I thought by now I would be getting some eggs from some of the ducks. Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks

Hello Ivan and welcome to the site.

I'm going to move your post over to the Hen House, where the chickeny people will see it.

Feel free to pop back into the Welcome forum to introduce yourself if you want to  :D

If ducks 'mechanics' work the same as a chickens you won't for a few months yet.

2015 was their first winter and it is fairly normal for you to have been getting eggs.

2016 is their second winter and their bodies have now settled down to a routine and they are doing what is normal.

my mixed lot of seven ducks tend to restart laying in late January as days get longer. So I had not been looking out for eggs but today I found 9 eggs in a hidden spot when I cleaned up in the outside run area. Not sure if it is one duck laying heavily over last few days or perhaps several ducks laying a few days apart etc. Even though my ducks are getting on a bit I will get 4 or 5 eggs a day from the six females thro most of year from Late Jan till about mid October. Most of mine are Campbells and that is usually a good laying strain. Not sure how runners compare.
